Ch. 12.3 Reluctant
The Captain who read the papers had extreme anger written on his face, as he snapped.
“The intervals between regular blood collections have to be atleast more than three months, but you guys have drawn from the same person four times in a row in three months. You people are actually even ruthless enough to do it!”
“Four times in three months?!”
The crowd was in an uproar, and the visitors from Shimei who were originally going to talk about cooperation all looked shocked.
The Dean tried to persuade them, still trying to stabilize the people from Shimei.
However, he did not expect that a cameraman hidden in the group hesitated for a moment and then suddenly opened his mouth.
“Comrade police officer, I have a recording here.”
The crowd’s eyes were drawn over, only to see the cameraman turning the screen of the camera in his hand towards everyone.
“This is from when during the shooting I went to the toilet, so I put the camera in the office, but the captured result was totally unintentional…… it was the recording of a conversation.”
The picture on the screen wasn’t complete, the view was slightly slanted, only revealing the part of the person being filmed above the chest.
And the person being filmed was none other than the Vice Dean.
“No, let’s change to the big needle today and go straight for the collection.”
The words he had just said in his office came out word to word from the camera.
“Drain more, don’t be stingy, if the bag gets filled, just use another, it’s not as if he will die.” 1If anyone has read the raws and knows what exactly the author meant here, please let me know in the comments.
The Vice Dean’s face was already almost as pale as a dead man’s.
“I didn’t mean that, really ……”
He still wanted to try to defend himself, but now there was no need to, nobody there would believe him.
The Captain directly waved his hand and said, “Illegal collection of blood, arrest and take the person away, then call the bureau to add more people to the investigation.”
“No, no! It’s really not me!!!”
The Vice Dean shouted his heart and lungs out, but his fat body couldn’t break free from the police’s shackles.
He unintentionally glanced at the boy standing on the side, and his struggling movements suddenly gave way.
Terror and despair instantly rose from the bottom of his heart. It was only then that the Vice Dean was shocked to realize that the boy’s icy cold face, which he thought couldn’t glance at him more than one time, had not had an ounce of fear on it.
Rather, there was just indifference, with even a hint of contempt.
That boy appeared to be only in his late teens, his body looking thin and under-nourished, and until now he was still being guarded by the two police officers, just like a weak victim.
It was only because of the the Vice Dean’s unintentional glance that he could see the boy’s indifference.
It was a look that clearly said that everything that happened now was fully within his plans.
*
The Dean and Vice Dean of Dexin Hospital were taken away on the spot for investigation, and originally as a victim, Bai Yexi should also have been taken to make a statement.
However, Bai Yexi’s physical condition was really worrisome, so after a few simple inquiries, the police let him go to the public hospital for a physical examination first.
Not long after walking out of Dexin Hospital, there were people already waiting for Bai Yexi, actually there were more than one waiting for him.
The ones who left Dexin together along with Bai Yexi, were the people from Shimei.
The cameraman who had just shown the video was the most excited.
“Brother Sun, it was really too good! You don’t know how the faces of the Dean and Vice Dean looked when I took out the video! Hahahahahaha!”
The young man was extraordinarily excited. Ofcourse, he had always been used to do physical labor, where had he seen something so exciting?
Luckily, he had participated in a few live video recordings in the army and could shoot, so he was sent to the scene to participate in this great show.
“Their faces literally turned green in colour!”
The young man was getting more and more excited when he was slapped on the back by Sun Ming.
“Keep your voice down,” Sun Ming reminded him, “The young master is getting nervous.”
On the side, Shi Qingning had just tugged on the cuffs of Bai Yexi, and at the sound of that young man’s voice, he lifted his head and revealed a pale, shallow smile towards the young man.
“Thank you, you worked hard just now.”
“It’s fine, it wasn’t hard at all.”
The young man, who had never been thanked by his employer before, scratched his head in embarrassment, and his bronze-colored face turned a little red.
It was followed by the exclamation of the person in charge of Shimei.
“Second Young Master, fortunately, you discovered these moths of Dexin in advance, otherwise if the cooperation really went through, the subsequent trouble could have been much more.”
Shi Qingning smiled once again and said, “It has been a trouble for all of you.”
The person in charge originally wanted to ask, how did the young master got to know this kind of information when he was at home all day long.
But he could see that the Young Master’s mind was no longer on them, and the injuries that boy had suffered were indeed a bit appalling.
The person in charge then said, “The car is here Second Young Master, I will go to the hospital first, we’ll handle the follow-up.”
The cameraman over there was still lamenting with Sun Ming.
“I didn’t expect them to be so bold, the papers were drafted long ago, and they still dared to slander that they were forged it, this is really the perfect example of ‘lying with your eyes open’ ……”
Although the chattering voice had been lowered, it clearly reached the ears of Bai Yexi.
After he heard it, his expression did not change, and he only looked down at the teenager in front of him who was tightly clutching his cuffs, but did not dare to move for fear of hurting him.
“Let’s go.”
Bai Yexi gently moved his sleeves and led the person along.
“To the hospital.”
Under the escort of the bodyguards, Shi Qingning and Bai Yexi went together to Hai City’s most famous government hospital.
This was also the exact place where Shi Qingning had his heart surgery.
Originally, Shi Qingning wanted to have Bai Yexi come for a checkup yesterday, but since it was very late, it was pushed until now.
It was only after a full set of tests were over and the results of the tests came out that Shi Qingning finally breathed a little sigh of relief.
“Slight anemia, just be careful to ensure rest and eat more foods that replenish iron and blood.” The doctor said, “There is no nerve damage as you said, so no need to worry.”
Only then did Shi Qingning’s taut nerves relaxed a bit.
After sending the doctor away, Shi Qingning borrowed a bandage from the nurse and carefully wrapped it up for Bai Yexi.
When these tests were run just now, some more blood samples were taken from Bai Yexi.
Originally, the sample size used for these tests didn’t need to be large, just a small incision from the fingertip or something like that would have been fine.
However, because of the earlier reasons, Bai Yexi’s hemoglobin level in his body had drastically decreased, and he couldn’t squeeze out any red from his fingertips, so they could only use a tourniquet to tightly wrap around his upper arm, and only after great difficulty were they able to draw out enough blood sample to be used.
Shi Qingning couldn’t describe his feelings when he witnessed Bai Yexi being treated like that.
He felt as if his heart was also being strangled, with the tip of a needle sticking into his heart, from where a full tube of blood was pumped out.
Shi Qingning lowered his head and carefully helped Bai Yexi wrap up that new needle hole.
Before that, he had been helping to apply pressure with a cotton swab for ten minutes.
It was only after the doctor had passed by twice and said that he could stop pressing that Shi Qingning finally let go.
The properly pressed pinhole really did not continue to bleed, it was only slightly red and swollen.
But Shi Qingning was not much relieved.
He had talked to Bai Yexi and tried to get the other person to roll up his long sleeves and let him look at all the bruises on his arms. Shi Qingning heard the young man pretending to be a cameraman say that Bai Yexi had undergone blood collection four times in just three months.
However, Bai Yexi only agreed to roll it up to his lower arm and didn’t show him all the pinholes.
“It will go away in a few days.”
Bai Yexi only said this.
Shi Qingning lowered his eyes and carefully wrapped up all the several pinholes on Bai Yexi’s lower arm.
This time, when Dexin Hospital was investigated, it should also implicate the An family. After getting hold of the relevant information, the situation should be much clearer than it is now.
Shi Qingning thought, and began to think about why he hadn’t found out about this in advance.
How twisted should the An family be to let Bai Yexi fall victim to such neurological injuries with a peace of mind?
Even their adoption of Bai Yexi could have been a deliberate search for a reserve store of rare blood type to begin with ……
As Shi Qingning thought, a new blood-red color suddenly appeared in front of his eyes.
He was slightly stunned, and then he saw the drop of blood slowly seeping away, blooming like colorful flower on the back of his hand.
It was followed by the 2nd drop, the 3rd drop……
“Second Young Master!”
Sun Ming’s startled voice came from his side.
“You have a nosebleed?!”
Shi Qingning wanted to say that he was fine, and was thinking that it was fortunate that it didn’t drip onto the bandage, wasting all of his efforts.
As he thought about it, his consciousness suddenly slipped into black nothingness.
“Second Young Master!!!”
Shi Qingning fainted, this sudden development made the several bodyguards’ soul come out of their body. Sun Ming instinctively reached out to pick him up, fearing that young master might end up hurting himself.
But before him, the one who was closer had already reached over.
He steadily caught the unconscious teenager.
“You ……”
Sun Ming was stunned as he looked at the person who was holding Shi Qingning, Bai Yexi.
Hadn’t his hand …… just been wrapped up?
Several bodyguards hurriedly went to call a doctor, but the boy in front of him had already taken out his cell phone and quickly dialed a number.
“The Second Young Master has a nosebleed and is unconscious from blood loss, we’re on the second floor now, we’ll be there in five minutes. Hmm.”
Bai Yexi’s movements were extremely swift, giving one almost no time to even react.
After the call was hung up, he directly bent down slightly, actually wanting to pick up Shi Qingning horizontally.
“I’ll do it!”
There was no way Sun Ming would let him move at this point.
He had been pumped out so many times! How could he still have the strength to hold someone?
“I’ll take the young master, the hospital is crowded, its better to beware of being squeezed out.”
Sun Ming said, but somehow still subconsciously explained himself with a few more sentences.
Bai Yexi stopped moving, looked at Sun Ming, and finally did not insist anymore.
“Hold steady.” He said.
These kind of words to take care of Shi Qingning originally shouldn’t have come from Bai Yexi to say to Shi Qingning’s bodyguard. But with the current situation being what it was, Sun Ming didn’t have the time to chat with anyone much and only asked.
“Which floor?”
“Thirteenth floor.”
Bai Yexi followed Sun Ming and carefully walked towards the elevator with a few bodyguards opening up the way.
Fortunately, there were not many people in the elevator at the moment, so Sun Ming was able to safely escort the young master up the stairs.
In the silent elevator, there was only the mechanical sound of the elevator running.
Sun Ming carefully held the young master, and finally could not help, looking towards the boy with his eyes downcast and staring at the face that had attracted Shi Qingning.
He was indeed a little too …… beautiful and maybe a little too calm for his age.
Bai Yexi did not raise his head, but as if he had noticed Sun Ming’s gaze, he spoke succinctly.
“It was that Dr. Zhao’s call from yesterday just now.”
He explained clearly, but still failed to erase the strange feeling in Sun Ming’s heart.
With a ding, the elevator arrived at the thirteenth floor, and Sun Ming could no longer continue to think about it as he held the person in his arms and quickly walked outside.
Over there, several doctors who had long been ready, with beds and required equipment in place. Following which the doctors quickly made a brief examination of Shi Qingning, and then looked at each other, nodded and said.
“Prepare for the surgery.”
Glancing at the instantly pale faces of the few people who had brought the young master in, the doctor took the time to comfort them.
“It’s nothing serious, it’s just a routine surgery, there’s no danger, by the way, notify Mrs. Shi and the others.”
With that, they shifted their attention to their staff.
“Notify the blood bank to transfer the reserves! Turn on the headlights! Prepare for surgery!”
Several bodyguards present there were a bit frazzled 2exhausted, as in complete depletion of energy or strength, even Sun Ming gasped lowly and calmed down for a while before getting hold of his shaky hands to give a phone call to Mrs. Shi.
It was only Bai Yexi that looked comparatively calmer than everyone else.
He calmly sat on the bench closest to the door of the operating room and waited quietly.
No one knew what he was thinking.
Bai Yexi lowered his eyes and looked at his arm.
Just now, their movements were so chaotic that his sleeve was pulled, revealing the bandage inside.
He gently clenched his fist and stared at his slightly bulging tendon.
There was plenty of blood in there, gurgling inside, and more could be extracted right away by tearing open his bandage.
Bai Yexi lowered his eyes, as the hospital’s cold light fell on his face, casting deep shadows on that perfectly sculpted face.
But those bandages were tied by Shi Qingning.
He couldn’t bare to tear them open.
