MLRAMB Chapter 45

Arrow Dog

In the dead of night, with the moon shrouded in darkness and the wind howling fiercely, it was the time for murder and arson.

But for Xie Chi at this moment, he was battered and bruised. He couldn’t even think about killing someone; surviving without getting beaten to half-death by the kid in front of him was considered lucky.

Sharp sword energy enveloped Taro Ball, causing Xie Chi to instinctively take a half-step back, his eyes focusing. Only then did he notice that the kid seemed to have a pair of fuzzy dragon horns just growing out from the top of his head.

Dragon horns?

Xie Chi’s heart skipped a beat. Upon closer inspection of Taro Ball and Goldfish’s faces, the more he looked, the more alarmed he became. How could these two kids look so familiar?

“You’re of the Dragon race,” Xie Chi said, his face darkening as he spoke, covering his still bleeding shoulder and speaking slowly.

Taro Ball and Goldfish exchanged glances before defiantly retorting, “So what if we are?”

Xie Chi’s gaze fell upon them, recalling the almost suffocating expression on Shen Tanqi’s face when he had him by the throat. He chuckled and said, “It doesn’t matter much. I just realized I might know your daddies.”

Shen Tanqi, you’ve got some skill, giving birth to three for my brother.

Alright, you got me.

I underestimated you.

Taro Ball held his sword in front of him, solemnly watching Xie Chi’s every move, and said, “Funny how things turn out. I know my daddies too. What exactly are you trying to say?”

His intuition told him that the man before him was definitely not a good person. Who would show up in a deserted alley in the dead of night, covered in blood?

Xie Chi casually glanced at the two of them, realizing that given his current condition, he couldn’t say for sure if he could hold his own against the kid in front of him. He wasn’t about to risk his life with these two little rascals.

He had received word a few days ago from the Demon Clan, saying that they were planning to ambush in Shuoxia City, summoning some ancient evil. He needed to find those Demon Clan members to coordinate the plan.

There was also the upcoming grand competition of the sect; he still had a lot to do. Revenge would come later.

No rush, Yu Ce would eventually pay a painful price for what happened back then.

As for Yu Ce’s children, Xie Chi squinted, a slight smirk forming at the corner of his lips—

He would strike without mercy.

Having clear on what he needed to do now, Xie Chi couldn’t be bothered to tangle with Taro Ball and Goldfish. He turned and walked away on the deserted street.

Taro Ball was about to follow, but was gently held back by Goldfish. His brother’s expression seemed tense, like he sensed something.

“Brother, don’t go, it’s dangerous.”

Hearing this, Taro Ball hesitated. He knew his brother’s luck was always better than his. His words at this moment were definitely not just out of fear.

This uncle was definitely very dangerous…

Realizing this, Taro Ball quickly pulled Goldfish back, saying, “Let’s play again tomorrow, brother. There aren’t many people on the streets today, something might be happening. Let’s not cause trouble for Daddy and the others.”

Goldfish nodded heavily, his gaze involuntarily shifting towards the alley where Xie Chi had emerged. “Brother, what’s in that alley?”

Could there be something terrifying inside to make that uncle, who seemed very tough, covered in blood?

Seeing his brother’s fear, Taro Ball smiled and reassured him, “What could there be? Brother, you’re too scared. I’ll go check it out.”

He didn’t sense any demonic aura inside, so there shouldn’t be anything there. Confidently, the kid walked into the alley, but after just one glance, he quickly ran out, panting heavily, his eyes wide.

Taro Ball could hardly believe what he had just seen. In that alley, there were scattered bodies of Chen Gui, limbs and heads twisted as if torn apart, blood splattered all over the walls.

Despite encountering many demons before, he had never seen such brutality. If he had just attacked that terrifying uncle earlier and angered him…

He felt a bit scared now, grateful that his brother had stopped him.

Taro Ball quickly held Goldfish’s hand and led him away from the alley.

“Brother, what did you see?”

“Nothing, just some broken bottles scattered around. That uncle must have been drunk and hit his head on the wall.”

“I see…”

On the long street, Taro Ball, still shaken, pulled Goldfish along towards the direction of the Shen family in his memory. He would never bring his brother out again without permission. If it were just him, it would be okay, but with his brother, he worried he wouldn’t be able to protect him in such situations.

As he walked, he carefully observed the surroundings, afraid that another strange uncle might suddenly rush out of one of the alleys, turning them into dishes of dragon meat—one braised and the other with mushrooms—for a delicious meal.

But just as he worried about what might happen, something did happen.

Suddenly, a ‘whoosh’ sound as an arrow flew towards them. Taro Ball’s pupils contracted, about to draw his sword to shatter the arrow when he noticed that it seemed to recognize him. Just as it was about a yard away, it swiftly changed direction and landed in the empty space next to them.

Taro Ball didn’t dare to relax, immediately pulling his brother behind him, alertly asking, “Who’s there!”

Was that strange uncle not giving up and coming back to eat them again?

The next moment, he and his trembling brother heard a barking from the empty space behind them.

“Hey, come over here and pull me out!”

Taro Ball suddenly turned around, only to see that it was the ‘arrow’ speaking.

He was somewhat surprised, cautiously approaching with his sword raised, asking, “What are you?”

The ‘arrow’ sounded a bit annoyed, “I’m your Uncle Black! Hurry up and pull me out, I’m stuck here!”

Goldfish, with his keen ears, quickly recognized the familiar voice of the little black dog that always followed their Daddy. He liked small animals, so he paid extra attention every time: “It’s Little Black, brother, did you hear that?”

Skeptical, Taro Ball slowly approached and carefully pulled Little Black out of the ground.

As soon as he was freed, Little Black instantly transformed from an ‘arrow’ into a small black dog. He used his paws to wash his face and grumbled, “Chick Brother said that the Chen Gui might appear around here. What are you two doing here?”

Seeing them scared him. In the dim light, he had thought those four legs belonged to a Chen Gui crawling on the ground, so he had immediately transformed into an arrow and shot over.

Goldfish squatted down and gently rubbed Little Black’s head, laughing happily, “We were planning to swim in the river outside, but then we ran into a strange uncle.”

Taro Ball smoothly picked up the conversation, “Yes, and the Chen Gui have already been taken care of by that strange uncle.”

At that moment, the system hurriedly arrived, hearing their conversation. Upon hearing this, it quickly jumped onto Little Black’s head, greeted the two little ones briefly, and eagerly asked, “Taken care of by the strange uncle?”

What strange uncle? How dare you come halfway and snatch the credit from my host, so unethical! Don’t you know about first come, first served?!

Far away, at some location in Shuoxia City, Xie Chi sneezed violently, rubbing his nose. Damn, it seemed like there were always people cursing him lately.

But upon hearing that Chen Gui had been eliminated, no one was happier than Little Black. Finally, he didn’t have to run around anymore. He raised his front paws, stroked his chin like a human, and pretended to be profound, saying, “I see, that makes things easier. Let’s go back and report.”

Hearing that they were going home, Goldfish happily hugged Little Black and asked, “Little Black, why were you able to transform just now?”

Little Black chuckled arrogantly, puffing up his chest proudly, “What’s that? I have countless abilities, you’ve only seen a drop in the bucket.”

Goldfish didn’t understand what ‘a drop in the bucket’ meant, but he enthusiastically applauded and asked, “What else can you transform into? Can you transform into something for me?”

With someone appreciating him, Little Black’s ego was greatly satisfied. He laughed even more wildly and said, “Watch closely.”

As he spoke, Little Black immediately transformed into a sharp and shiny long sword. However, his cultivation was sealed at the moment, so the sword was just an ordinary one.

In the amazed eyes of the children, Little Black then transformed into a whip, a dagger, a bow and arrow, and more. Although the shapes varied, they can’t cause any substantial harm. They were just ordinary weapons.

Goldfish was stunned, his mouth wide open, “So amazing…”

He could transform too, but only into a dragon. He couldn’t transform into so many different things like Little Black.

Hearing the child’s praise, Little Black couldn’t help but shed a tear of bitterness. After so many years, he finally found someone who appreciated him. He was even better than his father, Shen Tanqi!

“After we go back, will you perform for Daddy too?”

“I’ve shown him many times, but he’s blind,” Little Black sighed.

Every time, Shen Tanqi deliberately teased him, intentionally ignoring what he said.

Goldfish thought for a moment and said, “Daddy must not be surprised because he hasn’t seen your performance yet. If he saw it, he would definitely be very surprised.”

“Really?” Little Black was somewhat incredulous. That carefree Shen Tanqi, could he really pay attention to him?

Goldfish clenched his small fist and nodded firmly, “He definitely will. Believe me, you really are the most amazing little dog in the world.”

Hearing this, Little Black proudly wagged his tail, unaware that he had already been won over by Goldfish.

The system wiped its forehead in sweat. Why did it feel like Shen Tanqi’s two children were both talented in their own ways?

One had extremely high innate martial prowess, and the other had incredibly good luck in charming others. If they teamed up in the future, could they still be stopped in the cultivation world?

However, children have short memories. Soon, they forgot about the danger and fear they had just encountered with Xie Chi, all thanks to Little Black and the system’s company. They chatted and laughed all the way back to the Shen family.

As soon as they entered the main hall, they saw Shen Tanqi and Yu Ce discussing some plans. Little Black proudly pranced around in front of Shen Tanqi, but was ignored.

Little Black clicked its tongue in annoyance. Encouraged by the supportive gazes of the two kids behind him, it mustered up the courage to speak to Shen Tanqi, “Hey, Shen, I’ve got something to show you.”

Shen Tanqi glanced at him, “Where have you been wandering off to?” Noticing a leaf stuck to Little Black’s head, he figured the dog had been rolling around in the bushes. He reached out, casually plucking the leaf from Little Black’s head, and said indifferently, “What is it? Speak up.”

Seeing that Shen Tanqi was willing to listen, Xiaohei suddenly felt a bit hesitant and timid. It knew deep down that the things it transformed into wouldn’t impress Shen Tanqi. Those items had no spiritual energy or demonic aura; they were just ordinary objects. Shen Tanqi would probably only see them as toys.

At this point, Little Black’s gaze dimmed slightly, and he hesitated, not wanting to continue.

What difference was there between him now and an ordinary little dog? He couldn’t help with anything. Maybe he shouldn’t cause trouble for Shen Tanqi.

Just like before, when he transformed the same set of weapons for his former master, Mei Wuning, but Mei Wuning didn’t care at all. He even disdainfully said, “Is this all you can do?” and kicked him away tens of meters.

Shen Tanqi probably wouldn’t kick him, but Little Black felt that he might not be able to handle the disdain in Shen Tanqi’s eyes.

He hesitated, thinking that perhaps Shen Tanqi didn’t even need his help.

Just as he was about to retreat, he heard the soft encouragement from the children behind him, “Little Black, you have to believe in me.”

Little Black turned around, meeting the earnest gazes of the two children and the system. His throat choked up, and he averted his eyes, as if he had made a decision.

Humph, just let Shen Tanqi watch for fun. He didn’t care whether Shen Tanqi needed him or not.

“What do you want to show me?”

Shen Tanqi felt that Little Black was particularly strange today. His family’s little dog seemed to have become more sensitive.

Little Black raised his head and whispered, “I just… I just want to show you something.”

With that, he transformed all the weapons he had seen before based on his memory. The performance quickly ended, and Little Black tightly shut his eyes, no longer looking at Shen Tanqi’s expression.

Forget it.

If he’s going to be scornful, then so be it. What else could he do?

Little Black said to himself again.

His whole life had been filled with being disliked by people. Wasn’t it about time for a little dog to get used to it?

So he slowly opened his eyes and saw Shen Tanqi’s stunned expression in front of him. Then, he blurted out in shock, “Wow, how did you do that?”

He had thought that his little dog could only transform into ‘arrows’ or ‘dogs’!

So any weapon could be transformed?

Little Black noticed the surprise in Shen Tanqi’s tone, and it felt like a gentle breeze of warmth had entered his heart, making him feel somewhat light-hearted.

When children praised him, he was merely happy, but when Shen Tanqi praised him…

Little Black lowered his head, hiding the corners of his eyes that were inexplicably moist.

His owner really liked him.

The little dog was so happy, happier than he had ever been before.

Shen Tanqi lifted Little Black up, holding onto his front legs as if he were some precious treasure, and shook him gently, “Why are you crying? You’re so talented, why cry?”

Little Black turned his face away, grunting, “I’m not crying. A dog’s eyes are naturally watery.”

Shen Tanqi looked disbelieving, but also found the awkward Little Black quite amusing. As he chuckled, a magical idea popped into his head.

He suddenly became serious and looked at Little Black, “I’ll draw a picture. If you’ve seen it before, can you transform into the shape of the weapon in the picture?”

Little Black didn’t understand, but nodded anyway, saying, “As long as it’s a weapon I’ve seen before, I can transform into it. It’s just that swords and the like, even if I transform into them, they’re useless…”

Little Black’s voice grew quieter and quieter, but Shen Tanqi’s eyes lit up brighter and brighter.

Damn, if it could transform into anything, who needs cold weapons anymore?

Shen Tanqi glanced at the system behind Little Black and chuckled, “System, can you help me find a blueprint for a sniper rifle?”

System: ?

Are you alright, host???
