My name is Fu Qi, and I am a retired police dog.
After retirement, I was adopted by my new owner, a prison guard. I thought he was a good person, but he let me down.
He handed me over to a veterinarian and went back to the prison himself.
Honestly, I’m a little scared of veterinarians.
Now, let me clarify—this absolutely does not mean I’m cowardly. In fact, I’m incredibly brave.
When dealing with bad guys, I’m fearless. Even when a criminal’s knife stabbed into me, I didn’t back down. I clamped my jaws on the criminal’s arm and didn’t let go until my comrades subdued him.
But when I see a vaccine needle in the veterinarian’s hand and hear other dogs wailing and howling in his care, I shiver.
Let me ask this: who in this world wouldn’t fear someone coming at them with a needle? Again, I must stress—I am very brave.
My owner returned home several days later, and I immediately lodged a complaint.
I’m pretty sure he understood me. My owner is very empathetic.
He patted my head, then looked at the veterinarian sitting on the couch and pounced on him. He pinned him down, immobilizing his limbs, and bit his throat.
Yes, exactly! My owner is a true warrior. He knows that to subdue someone, you must attack their most vulnerable, fatal spot.
Keep biting, keep biting the veterinarian’s neck!
I was so excited that I bounced in place a couple of times, barking like I was cheering my owner on during training.
My owner glanced up at me, then dragged the defeated veterinarian into his den and shut the door.
I understand this behavior—it’s called guarding your food. If our trainer saw this, he’d definitely punish us.
Though I couldn’t see what was happening behind the door, my ears, which are exceptionally sharp, heard everything.
From the sounds, my owner gave the veterinarian a thorough lesson. I even heard the veterinarian crying afterward. In the end, he’s no match for my owner.
At that moment, my heart swelled with pride. My owner is a true warrior!
That’s all for today. The cat the veterinarian brought over is about to lick me again.
I knew it—it wants to be my underling!
Hungry and tired, Ding Qi emerged from the room. He grabbed a bottle of water and handed a slice of tiramisu to Yan Qing to tide him over. The delivery would take another half hour to arrive.
Sitting next to Yan Qing, Ding Qi instinctively wrapped him in his arms and gestured with his chin. “Look, Juzi is licking Fu Qi’s fur. People always say cats and dogs don’t get along, but I think they’re doing just fine. Juzi’s even grooming Fu Qi.”
Yan Qing glanced over and chuckled softly. “It’s probably a misunderstanding caused by a language barrier.”
“What kind of misunderstanding?” Ding Qi leaned in to kiss his cheek.
“Both cats and dogs are hierarchical animals, but their social interactions are opposite,” Yan Qing explained. “In dog packs, subordinates groom superiors to show submission. In cat colonies, the leader grooms their subordinates.”
And so, a harmonious scene had unfolded where both believed they were the boss.
Ding Qi was impressed. “What a beautiful misunderstanding. Let’s hope it stays that way.”
Yan Qing wasn’t particularly fond of sweets, so after a couple of bites, he fed the next spoonful to Ding Qi. Lowering his head, Ding Qi ate the dessert off the spoon, his tongue pressing the sweetness against his palate to savor it.
The two of them lounged on the couch, sharing dessert. The cat and dog nestled together, grooming each other. Outside, the sunset bathed the world in gentle warmth.
P.S. Fu Qi’s perspective on the family hierarchy:
Prison Guard > Veterinarian > Fu Qi > Juzi.
Actual family hierarchy:
Veterinarian > Prison Guard > Juzi > Fu Qi.
