TPAE chapter 4.1

“RongRong? RongRong!”

Before Wei Xicheng could process this new name, he heard someone calling out. The residual reflex in his body made him let out a weak “meow!”

The person outside, reassured by the response, stopped calling out.

Wei Xicheng stared at the cat-eared boy in the mirror, feeling complicated inside. He had initially thought this was his home, only to realize it was the home of him as a pet.

Well, that wasn’t necessarily bad. Considering he was a cat demon who couldn’t fully transform, it might be safer to just stay as a cat. Otherwise, walking around with such conspicuous ears might lead to his arrest by the authorities.

Wei Xicheng reached out to ruffle his hair. His two white cat ears twitched, and suddenly, he felt something unusual. His expression darkened. Glancing behind him, he saw a white cat tail swaying behind his backside in sync with his emotions.

Damn it.

In this storyline, Wei Xicheng was a pet cat in the home of a minor cannon fodder character. By sheer luck, he had managed to absorb enough spiritual energy to partially transform. However, his lack of cultivation skills meant he couldn’t remove the conspicuous ears and tail.

After exhausting his spiritual energy to transform, the little stray cat reverted to its original form and was found in an abandoned park by its current owner, Lin Yang. Lin Yang took him home and named him Fluffy.

Fluffy was merely a cat that had accidentally become a demon, ignorant of human customs. Yet, driven by animal instincts, he knew how to seek benefits and avoid harm. Content with being well-fed, well-dressed, and well-housed by Lin Yang, he resigned himself to life as a pet, occasionally acting cute to cheer Lin Yang up.

The ability to transform into a human was a forgotten matter. Or rather, Fluffy had grown more accustomed to being a cat.

Wei Xicheng stopped examining his body and flopped onto the bed. With a thought, his perspective changed drastically. His hands and feet had turned into fluffy white paws. The sensation of being a cat was very different from that of being human. Watching his tail swish back and forth, Wei Xicheng was struck by the impulse to chase it.

He gave himself a swipe with his paw. Snap out of it—that’s your own tail.

The bedroom door opened, and Lin Yang walked in, reaching out to scoop up his pet. But Fluffy dodged swiftly, leaving him empty-handed.

Lin Yang was taken aback. The little cat he had brought home almost a month ago had always been obedient. This was the first time it had avoided his affection and strutted out the door on its own.

He looked at the fluffy cat’s retreating backside and chuckled. It seems I’ve raised a little diva.

Although Wei Xicheng dodged quickly, he still took the opportunity to study Lin Yang. Judging by his looks, it wasn’t surprising that the original cat had bonded with him. Lin Yang had a very gentle face, completely non-threatening, like someone easy to get along with.

Even his build—clearly a young man in his early twenties—made him look like a teenager of sixteen or seventeen.

In the original plot, Lin Yang was a college student studying far from home. He had excellent academic performance and caught the eye of the story’s chosen protagonist, Si Yongyi, after delivering a speech at school.

Relentlessly pursued, Lin Yang eventually accepted Si Yongyi, only to discover he was merely a stand-in for someone else. Si Yongyi, ruthless in business, had many enemies who mistakenly thought Lin Yang was his cherished lover and severely beat him.

Faced with betrayal in love and physical trauma, Lin Yang found himself adrift in an unfamiliar city, unable to cope. Ultimately, he chose to end his young life. After his death, Si Yongyi realized he had truly fallen for Lin Yang, who became his irreplaceable “white moonlight.”

As for Fluffy, the little cat demon, it had only brief appearances in the story. However, whenever Si Yongyi was present, Fluffy always showed great hostility toward him.

It had to be said that an animal’s instincts could be astonishing.

After Lin Yang’s tragic end, Fluffy left the home. Long after, Si Yongyi met an inexplicable demise, the details sealed by authorities.

Wei Xicheng sighed. Though the original cat was naïve and pure, it knew who treated it well and was intent on repaying kindness. Unfortunately, it too was captured and killed by so-called righteous exorcists.

A newly transformed cat demon had only one life. Once gone, it was gone for good.

Lin Yang noticed that Fluffy seemed less eager to eat today. For a moment, he thought he saw sympathy and resignation in those round, gleaming cat eyes. Rubbing his own eyes, he dismissed the thought, attributing it to stress.

After preparing cat food for Wei Xicheng, Lin Yang hastily ate a few bites of his own meal and left. His thesis advisor had pointed out some issues with his data, forcing him to re-investigate and reorganize. With the deadline looming closer, he had no choice but to accept Si Yongyi’s offer of assistance.

Although Si Yongyi was sometimes a bit overenthusiastic, there was no denying his help was invaluable in this matter.

Wei Xicheng perched by the window, watching Lin Yang leave the community in a hurry. Stroking his sparse whiskers, he thought, Well, for the sake of the little dried fish he prepared for me, I’ll lend a paw.

Lin Yang pedaled his beat-up bike toward Si Yongyi’s luxurious neighborhood.

Unbeknownst to him, a white fluffy figure darted swiftly from tree to rooftop, trailing not far behind.

It wasn’t Lin Yang’s first time visiting this neighborhood. Si Yongyi had evidently informed the security guards in advance, so this time, he passed through without the awkwardness of his prior visit. The guards allowed him in without stopping him, though their disdainful looks lingered.

Lin Yang, good-natured as ever, paid no attention to their random thoughts and rode his old bike toward Si Yongyi’s villa.

Wei Xicheng, unable to follow him inside, settled on a second-story balcony of a neighboring house to observe the interactions in the study from afar.

Just as the plot described, Si Yongyi used the excuse of revising the thesis to gradually win over Lin Yang’s heart.

From this limited information, it was hard to tell if Lin Yang was even gay. The kid had no dating experience and thought he liked girls before meeting Si Yongyi. Later, when he agreed to date Si Yongyi, it was mostly due to his soft temperament and gratitude for Si Yongyi’s help.

Wei Xicheng’s eyes darted around. It would be difficult for a cat to stop two people from falling in love, but if a demon with a temperament and personality similar to Lin Yang—yet better-looking—were to intervene, dealing with a scumbag like Si Yongyi might be much easier.

He had a bold idea.

Before he could leave to put his plan into action, a large hand suddenly grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and lifted him up.

Wei Xicheng stared at the man he had completely failed to notice, feeling a faint sense of danger. Tilting his head and widening his eyes, he kicked his legs and licked his paw, letting out a couple of cute “meows” to act adorable.

“Tch.” Yi Chengze held up the little cat, examining it closely. A freshly transformed demon—eating it wouldn’t even yield much spiritual energy. Still, its fur was surprisingly white.

But Yi Chengze had never been fond of furry creatures. With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the cat straight off the balcony. His cold voice drifted down with the wind into Wei Xicheng’s ears.

“Stay away.”

Wei Xicheng landed lightly on the gravel path below, his soft paw pads cushioning the impact. Looking up at the second floor where the man’s figure had disappeared, he muttered to himself. Some people just didn’t like animals, but to be rejected so thoroughly? He glanced down at his fluffy white paws. Did my cuteness fail to work just now?

As far as acting cute went, Wei Xicheng figured he had no bottom line left—not after accepting the name Fluffy.

“Fluffy!” Lin Yang’s voice called out from above. Wei Xicheng froze.

“What are you doing here?” Lin Yang exclaimed, scooping his beloved cat into his arms. Balancing the handlebars of his bike with one hand, he precariously made his way home.

Wei Xicheng felt as if the wind had almost blown all the fur off his face. Once they finally got home, he quickly licked his paw and wiped his face—only to remember that his paws had just been stepping on the ground…

This wasn’t good. He was letting the instincts of this body influence him too much.

Lin Yang took off his jacket and turned to see Fluffy sprawled on the couch, looking troubled. Now even his cat seemed to have worries. Truly, pets take after their owners.

“Fluffy, Senior Si confessed to me again today,” Lin Yang sighed, sitting down on the couch to pet his cat. “Do you think… maybe I should give it a try?”

Don’t.

“Senior Si has helped me so much, and I don’t dislike him,” Lin Yang continued, leaning closer to Wei Xicheng, his face scrunched up in distress. “Fluffy, do you think I actually like him? Why can’t I figure it out myself?”

Wei Xicheng stared at the huge face leaning toward him and pushed it away with disdain. You can’t even figure out your own feelings—what’s the point of ‘trying it out’? Don’t expect me to clean up the mess like the original cat did.

Lin Yang had grown up in an overly sheltered environment. Si Yongyi, sly as a fox, would have no trouble deceiving an innocent young man like him. But with his lack of life experience, Lin Yang couldn’t see through it.

Lin Yang didn’t have many friends and usually kept his troubles to himself. After adopting a cat, he finally had someone to confide in. Their relationship was more like that of friends than owner and pet.

Burying his face in the fluffy fur on his cat’s back, Lin Yang’s nose itched from the soft fuzz.

Wei Xicheng patted him with a paw. Don’t worry, buddy. I’ll handle this for you in a couple of days.

In the quiet little apartment, man and cat coexisted in perfect harmony.
