RLDRFH Chapter 46

After He Zizhong’s car turned to the north gate of the base, the number of zombies at the east gate increased in number. Several power-mutated zombies actually pulled off the doors of several cars, and directly attacked the people inside!

Upon discovering this, many screamed and ran out of their cars, rushing to the closest gate no matter what. There was a mess outside the east gate bridge.

He Zizhong and Fang Hao arrived at the north gate, and after finishing registration and vehicle disinfection, they went to the designated waiting spot. As they were preparing to spend the night waiting to enter the city tomorrow, they suddenly heard the sound of cannons and machine guns coming from the east…

The faint wind in the air gradually spread the scent of gunpowder in all directions. After hearing and smelling the gunpowder smoke, everyone who was still complaining closed their mouths with pale faces and did not dare say any more.

Most of the people who went directly to the north gate are either people who were informed that the entrance was here, or people who went out looking for supplies. Most of them knew the basic rules, and saw with their own eyes that people who wanted to enter the base forcibly in violation of the rules were shot directly to death. At this moment, they did not dare to say anything after hearing the gunfire.

The two of them each carried a backpack, and Fang Hao finally persuaded Tuanzi to return to the space. At this time they were wearing windproof jackets, face masks, sunglasses, and hats on their heads. Like the other people who were fully armed and went out to do tasks, they sat in their designated “area” and waited for time to pass without attracting the attention of others.

They were located in the area where the people returning from a task waited. Not far behind was their car that was forcibly sterilized by the staff. When the time is up, they can drive back inside the base. Compared to those who just arrived at the base, there were a lot fewer formalities.

Those “trophies” on the car have been partly taken away by the staff when they registered, and now only about one-fourth of the things inside were left. According to the regulations, only one-fifth of their materials should be taken, but in actual implementation… Everyone knew that they already got a bargain if they could keep three-quarters of it.

Most of what they had in their car were the about to expire munitions cans, bedding, instant noodles, and a few rolls of toilet paper. The people who counted supplies focused their attention on the food and quilts, and only took a handful of toilet paper away. Today’s survivors were not very interested in this kind of thing.

He Zizhong sneered secretly, waiting for them to cry after the base confirms that plants have died on a large scale and it will be difficult to produce toilet paper.

The two arrived at three to four o’clock in the afternoon. After registration, it was exactly 4:30 when they entered the waiting area, so they needed to wait until 4:30 tomorrow to enter the safe zone.

The two of them took off their backpacks and then pretended to dig inside and take out two small cloth bags slightly larger than the palm of their hands. This bag was collected when collecting supplies, and now contained the rice balls Fang Hao made before.

The rice balls are wrapped in a fresh-keeping bag. The small cloth bag only blocked off the sight of others, to prevent them from seeing what was inside.

They also took an insulation thermos from the space, which contained soy bean and pig knuckle soup. It was yet another of Fang Hao’s previous masterpieces.

The soup was half-warm, but even if there is some aroma, it will not spread too far. The rice balls were thoroughly cooled and had no scent.

The two leaned on a large, soft backpack. Each of the backpacks contained a large soft pillow to serve as a cushion. They can also use the items in the backpack as a cover during the night after they are finished eating and ready to rest. Life in the apocalypse really is much more convenient and easy with the space.

The people in the waiting area are not as frightened as the people in the quarantine area not far away, and are much more relaxed. Most of them sat in their respective areas, occasionally talking in low voices, waiting to enter the safe area after their waiting time is over.

The two of them lowered their heads to eat dinner and drank a sip of soup from time to time. When their stomachs were 70% to 80% full, the direction of the entrance not far away suddenly became chaotic.

A person in the waiting area suddenly began to change, his skin gradually turned blue-gray, his nails became longer, his eyes were bulging out, and the sound of “hoh, hoh” came out in his throat.

Before anyone could scream, the sniper on duty on the city wall simply delivered a headshot to the zombie.

Only then did the man’s family cry and scream.

Most of the people in the waiting area watched coldly. Some people nearby rioted for a while, and soon returned to calm. A group of people wearing special protective clothing hurriedly walked out, followed by a few soldiers armed with guns as guards. Someone walked up to the zombie to confirm it was completely dead, before raising his hand to signal backwards: “Move away.”

Although the family members were heartbroken and sad, no one dared to stop them.

Another person in charge said to the people in the circle: “From now on, you need to wait another twenty-four hours.”

Someone protested immediately: “Why?!”

“Because one of your companions is a zombie.” The person coldly glanced at those around him as he spoke. “If there are zombies in the same waiting area within 24 hours, it is necessary to reset the clock and restart the waiting time for that group.”

“But we haven’t had any contact with that person?! Can we wait with them?” A man pointed to a few people who were hugging and crying nearby. The zombies that had just died were obviously the family and friends of those people. The rest of them just stopped together along the way; why do they have to recalculate their waiting times.

“Okay, find a staff member to re-register, change areas, and so on, but those who switch in the middle still have to restart their waiting time.” After that person turned around and walked towards the base.

In the end, those people still clamored to switch, for fear that some of others from that group would become zombies and hurt them. A staff member registered and reassigned them to a different circle.

Fang Hao stared from a distance and saw the few remaining people who had lost their loved one fell to the ground, relying on each other in the corner of the original circle – far from where the zombie died. He couldn’t tell what it was like for a while, and could only sigh secretly.

A blanket was placed on his body, and He Zizhong’s soft voice entered his ear: “Sleep.”

“I’ll take watch tonight…”

He Zizhong thought for a while and nodded. “You go to bed first, I’ll call you in the middle of the night.”

All the people here will arrange their own people on duty. Although the things in their cars are for pretend, they fared better than others when collecting materials. There isn’t much, but it’s still better to be careful.

Fang Hao nodded, covered the blanket and shifted down onto He Zizhong’s lap. “Don’t forget to call me in the middle of the night. You are not allowed to stay awake overnight.”

He Zizhong’s hand snuck under the blanket to hold his hand. He smiled and lowered his head to whisper: “Unfortunately, we can’t practice tonight.”

Fang Hao’s face blushed, closed his eyes on his lap to go to sleep.

He Zizhong quietly leaned on two large backpacks, and his eyes swept over his car and the people in the nearby circle from time to time. He hasn’t spent a night in this environment for a long time. Because of the space, his life could only be described as a leisurely and will cause other’s eyes to turn red. Even he didn’t know how he managed to luck out and gain such a peach blossom garden1describing a luxurious and dream-like space during these precarious days; it must be a blessing that he has cultivated from a few lifetimes.

His fingers gently stroked Fang Hao’s soft chin, who was already asleep. Being able to have such a person by his side is also the blessing of several lifetimes…

While sighing, he vaguely heard voices coming from far away. Turning his head at the distant entrance, he saw a group of people coming in one after another. Most of them were nervous and anxious, with messy clothes, and many of them had mixed colors on their bodies.

Although the base allowed people with injuries to enter, they cannot wait with ordinary people. They have a special place for the wounded, and unlike the uninjured, they had to wait at least 30 hours to enter. They also had to let professionals check their wounds. If someone’s wound is black, has pus, or is smelly, they won’t be able to enter even after waiting 30 hours.

He Zizhong looked at them suspiciously. Among the several who entered, he recognized them as the people who were blocked by the zombies at the east entrance. Many of them were accidentally injured while abandoning their vehicles to escape. Those who ran slowly entered the zombies’ stomachs or became new zombies; those who ran faster got help from the military before reluctantly walking all the way over to the north gate.

He Zizhong scanned the crowd for a few times and then stopped paying attention. The sky was too dark to see their appearances, and they were too far away, making it impossible to hear what they were saying about the situation.

At about two o’clock in the morning, the two changed shifts. He Zizhong rested comfortably on Fang Hao’s lap, smiling as he watched him rubbing his eyes in a daze.

“Go to sleep, I’ll call you tomorrow morning.” Fang Hao yawned again, then turned to look at their car – very good, it seems there was no problem. When he lowered his head to look at He Zizhong, he was pulled down and kissed lightly.

“Go to sleep.” Fang Hao looked around in a panic. Fortunately, no one could see their movements just now.

“Okay, I’ll go to bed first.” He Zizhong laughed in a low voice, and the sound of his chest vibration made Fang Hao’s blush irritatedly. The child is still worried about being seen. He didn’t know that soon no one will care about any ethics or order.

Homosexuality is one thing. But soon people will treat others being beaten on the street indifferently.

The weather was still grey in the early morning, but the change of light still woke He Zizhong from his sleep. Opening his eyes, he saw Fang Hao, who was reading a book and looking down at him.

“Woke up? Are you hungry?”

“Not hungry yet, what time is it?”

“It’s past eight o’clock.” After saying that, Fang Hao suddenly glanced in a certain direction, covered half of his face with the book, and whispered, “Zizhong, that one over there… do you think it’s your cousin?”

Cousin? Xu Lili?

HZZ and his toilet paper addiction… 🤣
