TSNCWEM Chapter 11

“Yexi, you know I have no capabilities. I just worry that you might have chosen the wrong person.”  Song Yunzhao spoke bluntly. Whether it was Song Qinghan or Song Yexi, the two were not much different from each other- they both wanted something from her.

She was a pure and innocent young lady; she certainly didn’t want to step into the mud. Isn’t it better to be a bystander and enjoy the drama?

Besides, she isn’t favoured in the Third Branch and Song Yexi knew this. Her visit might not be with good intentions.

This time, without her acting as the scapegoat, she wanted to see whom Song Qinghan would scheme against and whether Song Yexi could still stay out of it, pretending it didn’t concern her.

Song Yexi gave a faint smile upon hearing Song Yunzhao’s words. There was no trace of displeasure on her face. She picked up a teacup and took a sip before speaking unhurriedly, “I am just not familiar with the Dingnan mansion. When we go there, I hope that you can take care of me a little bit.”

Song Yunzhao made a relieved expression, “This is a small matter, of course it’s not a problem. But, Sister Yexi, I will also be visiting the Mansion for the first time, so if I make a mistake, I hope you can be understanding.”

She wouldn’t go to the Dingnan Mansion anyway, so agreeing wouldn’t cost her anything.

Therefore, the First Madam took over the task of making new clothes and jewellery for the girls in the household.

Song Yunzhao received two new outfits, and even a new jewellery set.The things First Madam gave her were much more generous than those from Cai Shi. The outfits were made from high-quality materials, and the jewellery was of the latest style in the capital, made with ample materials. The pearl on the gold hairpin was as large as a thumbnail. She liked it at first sight– it was worth quite a lot of money.

Who doesn’t like money?

However, she was already the most beautiful among her sisters, and now she had these outstanding clothes and beautiful jewelry.

The tallest tree in the forest gets blown down first. The First Madam might not have good intentions.

She wanted to make her a target.

“Put these things away and place them in the chest,” Song Yunzhao said to Jiang Xiang.

Seeing that the young lady didn’t seem very happy, Jiang Xiang said, “Miss, are you unhappy? These clothes and jewellery are very beautiful. When we go to the Dingnan Mansion, the Countess will surely like you.”

As long as the Countess likes her, the selection matter will have a higher chance of success. Wasn’t that a good thing?

Song Yunzhao nodded slightly and said to Luo Momo, “No need to inquire further, the matter should already be settled.”

Luo Momo, both happy and worried, sighed and said, “Young lady, when you go to the Dingnan Mansion, you must be cautious, especially with the Eldest Young Lady. Because of her fierce retaliation, people believed that she might be innocent. At this moment, Song Qinghan stepped in to speak for her, putting on an act of sisterly affection, making Chu Yuying look even more sinister and malicious.

Thinking of this, Song Yunzhao laughed. This time, she wouldn’t go to the Dingnan Mansion. She wanted to see how Song Qinghan would handle the situation on her own.

She only wanted to catch a slight cold, not a serious illness, so she estimated that a slight fever in the morning would be sufficient. She then closed the window and went back to bed.

The next morning, Song Yunzhao’s cheeks were indeed flushed, and her forehead was hot. Luo Momo was so frightened that she immediately ran to the main courtyard to ask Cai Shi to call a doctor.

Cai Shi was busy with the matters concerning the Dingnan Mansion, giving orders one after another, until her mouth felt like it was on fire. Now, with Song Yunzhao causing more trouble, her tone was naturally harsh, and she scolded Luo Momo on the spot.

Luo Momo quickly apologised and pleaded with Cai Shi to call a doctor to come and see Yunzhao.

Cai Shi, with a darkened face, sent someone to call the doctor. Fearing that Song Yunzhao might be up to something, she decided to go and check on her personally. Just then, Song Qinghan, having received the news, came over, and the mother and daughter pair went together.

Just as they entered the courtyard, the First Madam arrived with Song Yexi, followed closely by  Song Jinxuan, who was peeking around somewhat slyly.
