SVWL Chapter 38.2

After the evening self-study, Zhu Tong planned to return to the homestay with a physics test paper in hand.

They were used to going out through the back door. In front of them, Luo Suo went to the front door instead to exit the classroom. He was about to ask Shao Ming what his plans would be for the National Day holiday, when suddenly a hand stretched out behind him and pulled him away.

Luo Suo staggered, turned his head and scolded, “Damn, who… Zhou Rui? What are you doing in this classroom?”

Zhou Rui didn’t come for him. After pulling Luo Suo away, he reached out and wanted to pull Zhu Tong.

Zhu Tong subconsciously stepped back, bumped into Shao Ming behind him, and was hugged by him. The two of them also saw the person at the door clearly and frowned at the same time.

Zhou Rui ignored it and shouted directly, “Zhu Tong, can you help me? My Dad is crazy, he wants to sell me and my Ge. I know that those who go to my house to collect debts are because of you. Please, Ge didn’t mean to offend you, and he knows that what he did was wrong. You tell those debt collectors and let them let go of my family, okay? I beg you!”

Zhou Rui looked at Zhu Tong with red eyes and prayed.

Since that day in the cafeteria, Zhu Tong never saw Zhou Rui again.

Seeing him suddenly at this moment, he almost didn’t recognize that it was the man who bumped into him in the stairwell and called him “pretentious” with a look of disgust.

Was the change in this man’s attitude towards him that great?

There was too much commotion at the back door of the classroom, and the Class 3 students who were about to leave stopped at the same time.

Zhu Tong frowned and replied, “Those debt collectors went to your house because your family owed them gambling debts. What does it have to do with me?”

As he retorted, he wanted to bypass Zhou Rui and planned to go out from the front door instead. But Zhou Rui quickly stopped him and said, “You know? You really know! My family hasn’t had an incident for so long, so why did the debt collector come after my Ge found you? You must have done something! What have you done?”

‘What have I done?’

To the Zhou family, Uncle Liu did nothing.

He just asked Uncle Liu to investigate Zhou Sui’s family, sent what he found to his grandfather, and apparently, his grandfather told his father instead.

Zhou Sui wanted to pay off the usury through the transaction with Qin Junhong. Now that the transaction failed, he couldn’t get the money. If he still didn’t pay the money by the stipulated deadline, the debt collector would naturally come to his family’s house.

Between Zhou Sui and Qin Junhong was an illegal transaction where he was the “goods”.

Now that the “goods” were gone, the Zhou family got blacklashed by Zhou Sui’s own malicious deal.

It wasn’t Zhu Tong’s fault. He never even asked Zhou Sui to do anything. So, he didn’t want to pay attention to Zhou Rui and turned to leave.

Zhou Rui immediately panicked. “You can’t go!”

He pounced hard and tried to grab Zhu Tong.

Suddenly his wrist was gripped hard, and his body was dragged forcefully to the side, almost making him fall into the floor.

Shao Ming glared at him with a harsh glare. “Before asking for help, shouldn’t you find out if you are qualified to ask for help?”

Zhou Rui was startled.

“Yeah, didn’t you borrow usury yourself? If you’re afraid of debt collectors, why did you never try to stop your father from gambling the money away?”

Because the Zhou brother’s father made a fuss at the school gate before, many people in Class 3 also knew that the Zhou family was beaten at by the loan sharks because of their own gambling debts.

At this moment, seeing Zhou Rui begged Zhu Tong to help him. It was quite an unreasonable demand, and Shao Ming couldn’t understand his way of thinking.

“You ask for help from Zhu Tong, but he doesn’t owe you anything. So why should he help you?”

“Yes, it’s unfortunate of you to be entangled by your brother and father’s debts. But now you blame others for that shitty situation. Are you sick in the head?”

“Didn’t your father say that your brother promised to help him pay off his gambling debts within a month? Why don’t you go to your brother? You didn’t beg him just because Zhu Tong’s family is rich, right? Although he is a good person, you think you can make him carry this burden?”

“Paying off all gambling debts within a month was quite a feat, and yet, Zhou Sui’s father trusted him to do that. This must be because this isn’t the first time this has happened. WHere did he get all the money?  He is a high school student, so… did he use shameful means?” A female student wondered out loud.

“No! It’s not!” Zhou Rui suddenly glared at the speaker, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

The girl who spoke was startled. “Hey, why are you so fierce towards me? If your brother got his money from upright ways, why don’t you let your brother figure out a way?”

“…”

Zhou Rui was speechless.

–Indeed, if it was a normal, legal method, why can’t his brother get the money?

He murmured and shook his head, “No, Ge didn’t…”

Zhou Rui looked at Zhu Tong again and said emotionally, “Zhu Tong, I know you must have a solution. I beg you to help me, my furniture has been smashed, my dad will really sell me, I… I asked Ge to apologize to you. I can kneel down for you…”

He said that as he bent his knees, but he was pulled up mid-way.

Luo Suo’s eyes and hands were quick. “What are you doing? Are you trying to guilt-trip him? I tell you, no one will believe in your shit acting!”

Zhu Tong looked at Zhou Rui’s embarrassed expression. He was silent for a while, then finally said, “Selling people is human trafficking, and it’s very illegal. If your father dares to do such a thing, you can solve it through legal means. Plus, you are still underage, so the money your family owes isn’t your burden to bear. I can’t help you if you need an attorney to represent your case, however.”

The usury loans that Zhou Sui’s father borrowed were not all to pay off gambling debts. He also borrowed money for his own spending, so he really brought this upon himself.

As for Zhou Sui, he has to take responsibility for his own mistakes.

“…”

The classroom was quiet because of Zhu Tong’s reply.

It was strangely quiet, so Zhu Tong turned to look at his classmates, and whispered to Shao Ming, “Did I say something wrong?”

Shao Ming’s gaze was gloomy because of Zhou Rui’s fuss, But, those dark clouds immediately got scattered with Zhu Tong’s words. He smiled and whispered back, “No, it’s a great thing to say.”

Zhu Tong: “…”

Zhu Tong was inexplicably praised by him, making his face flushed hot. He immediately stopped looking at Zhou Rui and turned away.

Shao Ming also followed him.

Everyone in the classroom quickly went out. Only Zhou Rui stood at the back door of the classroom of Class 3, waiting for the lights in the teaching building to go out before he left.

In the evening–

In the school’s various group chats, the past two days were filled with the student’s moans of their monthly exam pain. After the monthly exam was over, there was finally something new to discuss.

[Schools have weirdos every year, but this year, there sure are a lot of them.]

[Zhou Rui really has a hole in his brain1slang for “imaginative”; but in this case, it’s most likely to be “delusional”, right? He even went to beg Zhu Tong. Truly shameful! His brother slandered Zhu Tong before, or did he already forget that? It was Zhu Tong’s generous heart that he didn’t pursue that further, because I know he definitely can fuck Zhou Sui up if he wanted to.]

[Zhou Rui isn’t so wicked, right? His appearance of begging in the classroom of Class 3 today… tsk, he really looks miserable.]

[He does look miserable, but he’s not innocent, right? He’s always had a lot of money in school, but it’s still unknown where his brother got that money. He’s also benefited from his brother’s shady means.]

[Anyway, even if he is not sold by his father, his life in the future will definitely not be easy.]

[How dare he ask Zhu Tong’s help after he had wronged him? He’s busy studying, why does he have to care? I heard that Zhu Tong got a perfect score in English again this time, so he’s really a good match for Study God!]

[There are still more! In the classroom just now, the way Study God looked at Zhu Tong was really!! He looks really doting!!! OMG I’m drowning in fluff!]

Meanwhile, in the school dormitory, in the single-person dormitory that Lu Shiman arranged for Xia Yang, Xia Yang was also scrolling in the group chats watching them discuss Zhu Tong and Shao Ming. The more he read, the more he felt uncomfortable.

He hated Zhu Tong – hated him being so close to Shao Ming, hated him to transfer to school and stole his limelight.

In this monthly exam, he also had Lu Shiman dismissed.

Although Xia Yang didn’t like Lu Shiman either and thought she was stupid, he had to admit that when Lu Shiman was his homeroom teacher, she gave him a lot of convenience.

Single dormitory is one of them.

Today, the new homeroom teacher came, and he’s a male teacher. When he was making a round in the dormitory, he specifically asked about his room. Although he didn’t say anything at the time, looking at his eyes, it’s clear that this new teacher wanted to make a new arrangement for him in order to make him less special.

He lived in the dormitory so that he could sleep for a few more minutes in the morning. He lived in a single dormitory to show his specialness to others and make others envy him.

But now, because of commuting, Zhu Tong could ride Shao Ming’s bicycle every day. They always went into school and went out of school together every day. He went in and out with him every day. He was the one who attracted the most attention and was envied.

Xia Yang’s heart was surging. And then, a strange voice in his mind sounded.

Xia Yang was startled suddenly.

The voice in his head gradually became clearer.

‘These things were originally supposed to belong to you…’

Xia Yang’s body trembled involuntarily, and his eyes gradually became dull.

At noon the next day, Shao Ming cooked lunch in their shared room again. While Zhu Tong obediently waited in the living room.

The system interface is in front of him, and the current favorability gauge is 41%.

“Why do I feel that the favorability level seems to be increasing slower lately..”

Since that time he had a stomach pain, his favorability only increased by a meager 1% at a time. Could it be that it, once again, has reached saturation point? So he couldn’t get any favorability using the current method?

The system said, ‘I’ve told you to be more active. How can you succeed by being passive?’

Zhu Tong: “…”

But how could he take the initiative?

Zhu Tong tilted his head and glanced in the direction of the kitchen.

Shao Ming said that today’s lunch is Huajia noodles2花甲粉 , and from here, he could already smell its tempting aroma.

Since living in the homestay, apart from going out to dinner with Luo Suo, Shao Ming was almost the one who cooked lunch. He couldn’t help with anything.

Zhu Tong got bored and he started following Shao Ming’s example to spin his phone with his hand. Suddenly, he had an epiphany–

He can cook for Shao Ming!
