The Substitute Awakens Chapter 3.2

The front door was open, and the cold wind kept pouring in. Yan Heqing stood still, his frail body appearing as though it could be knocked over at any moment by the wind.

Lu Muchi remained silent as well. After all the commotion, he had lost interest in his previous intentions and found himself intrigued by something new.

Playing with the lighter, he looked at Yan Heqing through the haze of smoke.

Upon closer inspection, Yan Heqing didn’t actually resemble Lin Fengzhi very much.

Lin Fengzhi was pale and soft, so clumsy that it made people worry about letting him go out alone. He was the kind you’d want to keep at home, where you could spoil him. He cried easily, and once he started, it was like turning on a faucet that wouldn’t stop—but a single piece of candy could cheer him up, and when he smiled, he had a small dimple.

Yan Heqing, on the other hand, had strikingly sharp and vibrant features, with a coldness in his eyes. He had never smiled, so who knew if he had a dimple or not?

Lu Muchi put away the lighter and spoke with interest, “How about this—if you smile, I’ll let you go tonight.”

Yan Heqing acted as if he hadn’t heard.

Before long, the police arrived—an older officer and a younger one.

After entering the house, the young officer’s eyes wandered between the two of them. “Who called the police?”

“I did,” Yan Heqing said as he started walking towards the door.

As he passed by, Lu Muchi grabbed his arm. “I don’t like my things getting too close to other men,” he said, exhaling the last bit of his cigarette. “They can hear us from here.”

Yan Heqing knew that he wasn’t a match for Lu Muchi in terms of physical strength, so he didn’t waste energy struggling. He simply nodded at the young officer and said, “It’s him. He broke into a private residence at night.”

The young officer looked uncertain and turned back to the older officer for guidance.

The older officer had been observing Lu Muchi since he entered, feeling that he looked familiar. Unsure, he asked, “What’s your name?”

Lu Muchi remained calm and composed, replying, “Lu Muchi.”

The older officer’s expression subtly changed. No wonder he looked familiar—it was *that* Lu family…

The officer took Yan Heqing’s statement, then questioned Yan Shengbing and Zhao Huilin. Of course, they didn’t side with Yan Heqing; they smiled and said Lu Muchi was the child of a family friend, just visiting for fun, and that Yan Heqing was just throwing a tantrum.

With the couple saying that, there wasn’t much the police could do. After mediating the situation, they left.

As the sound of the police faded and the cold wind continued to pour into the room, a look of despair finally appeared on Yan Heqing’s face.

Lu Muchi found this amusing. This expression was exactly what he had been waiting to see. He had wasted time playing this little game with Yan Heqing just to witness this look of crushed hope.

Crushing someone’s hope, shattering it right in front of them, was far more interesting to Lu Muchi than any physical pleasure.

He slowly ground the cigarette butt into the floor with his shoe, smirking. “It would’ve been better if you had agreed earlier. You wasted your chance.”

Without saying another word, Lu Muchi grabbed Yan Heqing and dragged him away.

Yan Heqing was too light, and Lu Muchi easily dragged him downstairs without any effort.

Zhao Huilin and Yan Shengbing were hiding behind their bedroom door, eavesdropping in fear. It was only after they heard Lu Muchi leave that they dared to move or speak.

Yan Shengbing rubbed his nearly broken hand. “Damn, he’s finally gone!”

Zhao Huilin immediately pulled down Yan Feng’s wet pants, tears streaming down her face. “Don’t be scared, my dear. Let’s get these pants off…”

Downstairs, Lu Muchi opened the car door and was about to push Yan Heqing inside when Yan Heqing spoke up.

“I have a condition.”

Lu Muchi’s eyes grew cold. It was always the same.

He had seen people like Yan Heqing before—thinking they could raise their price just because they hadn’t been caught yet.

After all this fuss, it was just a ploy to increase his value.

The slight interest that Lu Muchi had just shown in Yan Heqing disappeared in an instant. “Speak.”

The dappled light from the streetlamp cast shadows on Yan Heqing’s face, illuminating one side while the other remained hidden in darkness, unclear and unreadable.

The late autumn wind was biting and cold. Yan Heqing’s thin clothing offered little protection, and his lips had turned a bluish hue as he slowly uttered a few words.

“Find my younger brother.”

Yan Heqing knew that calling the police wouldn’t help now—nothing had happened yet.

He was acting, making Lu Muchi believe he was scared, that he had given in, all while planning to find Lu Muchi’s weakness and strike back when the time was right.

Lu Muchi’s love for Lin Fengzhi was his biggest weapon at the moment.

Yan Heqing stood still, his glassy eyes fixed on Lu Muchi. “I have a biological younger brother who was lost when we were children. If you can find him, I’ll agree.”

For a moment, the contemptuous look in Lu Muchi’s eyes turned complicated.

He had already investigated Yan Heqing’s background and naturally discovered that Yan Heqing was Lin Fengzhi’s twin brother.

Lin Fengzhi had been adopted by the Lin family, where he fell seriously ill. After recovering, he lost his memories and no longer remembered his past, including the fact that he had a biological brother.

The Lu and Lin families were old family friends, and Lu Muchi, who was ten years old at the time, had always known that Lin Fengzhi was an adopted child.

If Lin Fengzhi were to regain his memories and realize that Lu Muchi had slept with his biological brother…

Lu Muchi’s grip on Yan Heqing’s arm gradually loosened, one finger at a time.

After a moment, he snatched Yan Heqing’s phone and stuffed it into his pocket. “I’ll think about it. If you want your phone back, contact me.”

Lu Muchi shut the car door, walked around to the driver’s seat, and drove off.

In the early hours of the morning, the neighborhood was eerily quiet. Yan Heqing’s back, sore from being slammed into the balcony, throbbed faintly.

Yet he seemed felt no pain, his mind focused on planning his next move.

The same weapon would lose its effectiveness if used too often. He needed to find a stronger one.

A figure flashed in Yan Heqing’s mind.

A person who appears only a few times but appears through the whole story.

Lu Muchi’s most feared uncle and Lin Fengzhi’s first love—Lu Lin.
