TTCOTE Chapter 14

Will you be my husband?

“Bang.” Another sound and Jing Hengbo found herself on her back again, but she didn’t feel any pain. With a glance, she saw a thick carpet on the ground, a snowy white robe with dark embedded golden threads, quietly hanging down.

Outside the carriage, there was the sound of galloping horses. A guard said, “Master, it seems that bandits are lurking on the road causing trouble. Subordinates will go to check.”

The person in white responded with a light “Hmm,” sounding indifferent. Then, he added, “Two people should be enough.”

The guards outside took the order, and Jing Hengbo listened a bit confused. They had a considerable group of people, and if it was bandits making a move, naturally, the opposing force wouldn’t be too small. Sending only two guards to check, what kind of decision was this?

The person in white seemed to pay little attention to the so-called bandits. His fingers made a rustling sound as if flipping through a book. His robe’s hem was right before her eyes, with a fine and exquisite texture, like frost and snow. From her perspective, she could see him holding a cup in one hand and annotating a map on a small table with the other. Not a drop of liquid spilled from the cup, and the map rolled down in front of her. Every word on it was clear and sharp, making it hard to understand how he had pulled someone back with one hand and didn’t affect his writing and holding the cup in the slightest.

Jing Hengbo saw the words “Yanbei” on the map, marked with mountains, rivers, and streams. This was a map of the northern part of Dayan, which was exactly the road they would pass.  In the area of San Shui County, three circles were drawn.

The small table blocked her view, and Jing Hengbo could only see a slender neck, partially obscured by black sandalwood, creating a striking contrast between black and white. Her gaze lingered for a while, and she silently swallowed, thinking that a man’s skin could also make people immediately think of the words “ice-cold and jade-like.”

After the person in front of her threw her in, he continued to ignore her, doing his own thing. Jing Hengbo’s eyes wandered around and suddenly met a pair of widened eyes, startling her. Upon closer inspection, she found that the back wall of the entire carriage was a giant yellow rosewood flying dragon carving. The carving wasn’t particularly delicate, but the bold strokes and vigorous style vividly displayed the wildness of the flying dragon, with angry eyes, golden claws, and seemingly ready to break out of the wall at any moment as the carriage swayed.

Such a carving was both shocking and captivating. Jing Hengbo approached with interest, reaching out to poke at the dragon’s eye—she noticed a gem inside, possibly an embedded precious stone.

“Snap.” A sound, her restless hand was swatted away.

Jing Hengbo rubbed her reddened hand and turned to look at the motionless man, complaining, “Handsome, do you have a doctor here? I have a friend who needs medical attention…” Her words stopped suddenly as her gaze focused.

Under the faint starlight, his profile was outlined, revealing rare and exquisite lines. His high nose resembled a jade pillar, with clear and distinct contours. His lip line was thin but soft, and the pale silver starlight complemented the jade-like color of his skin, evoking the word “transparent” in a moment of purity.

The next moment, Jing Hengbo realized that she had somehow moved closer to him.

“Hey! Handsome—” Her voice was long and soft, and one arm had already gently draped over his shoulder. Jing Hengbo smiled with a flirtatious gleam, her lips inching closer to his delicate earlobe. “I’m Jing Hengbo, you can call me Bobo or you can call me Big Bo. I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before. Can we get to know each other?”

In the next second, her world spun, and the carriage roof turned upside down. She felt the hard surface of the carriage wall against her back, and a hand gripped her neck, pressing her against the wall. A pair of eyes cast a faintly cold gaze upon her.

Jing Hengbo’s gaze was fervent and unrestrained—Wow! Finally, she saw his face! Wow! Didn’t disappoint!

Truly a face that could overturn nations and cities!

Especially those eyes, with deep double eyelids and extremely dark pupils. Yet, in the depths of those eyes, there was a faint hue of azure, not appearing strange but making the eyes more sharp and profound, sparkling with colors that couldn’t fully capture their brilliance. With just a glance, it felt like diving into the depths of the universe, unsure of the way forward or backward, seeing the universe in a fantastical display of colors.

Merely those eyes seemed to encompass all the colors in the world, making the beauty of the other facial features fade into the background. The skin, nearly transparent, was extremely fair and clear, like seeing ice in a colorful midsummer, faintly cold and captivating.

Now, those crystalline eyes were fixed on her, and Jing Hengbo couldn’t help but shiver. Suddenly, she felt a drastic drop in temperature inside the carriage, a chilling sensation penetrating her bones.

There was a murderous intent!

This inexplicable murderous intent froze her, causing her to hesitate even in extending her hand to take advantage.

However!

Her eyes swept over his earlobe.

Could someone please explain why, despite this guy being surrounded by an aura as cold as ice, his earlobes… were red?

He was so clear and crystal-like that the touch of red on his earlobes was particularly conspicuous. It was lightly applied, even extending slightly towards his temple, resembling the rosy hues reflected on a snowy field or the faint red glow in white jade.

Jing Hengbo’s eyes were almost turning red as well—this tempting contrast and allure were just too much!

“hey, handsome guy…” She dared not touch, but she couldn’t let go of the opportunity with her words. Leaning straight against the carriage wall, she gazed sincerely at the pink earlobes of the icy and aloof beauty before her, tears welling up in her eyes as she clasped her heart with both hands. “I seem to have fallen in love with you. Will you be my husband?”
