VFMESR Chapter 17

In just one night, the news about the eldest prince of Charles vanished from the Star Network. Even the netizens, who had been casually gossiping or even insulting Jiang Ling online, found themselves bewildered and silenced by warnings and bans. They felt anxious upon seeing the official red warnings cautioning them about their words, desperately trying to recall if they had said anything inappropriate.

After all, most of the time, they used the internet to vent their frustrations, inevitably revealing some unsavory aspects of themselves. If the authorities were to expose their personal information because of this, it would be a social death sentence. As a result, many refrained from speaking out.

Chu Wenyu’s actions were taken without Jiang Ling’s knowledge. He didn’t want to deepen the pain in Alpha’s heart, caused by the Charles royal family’s rejection. Strangely, amidst his growing hate for the Charles royal family, he found a hint of satisfaction in his heart. He liked the current situation. Perhaps this would bring Jiang Ling, who had nowhere else to turn, closer to him.

After all, the other person was someone who was unusually friendly even to his enemies.

However, Chu Wenyu was also hesitating. In the late hours of the night, he repeatedly opened Star Network to read comments about the two Charles princes. If, at first, he had been indifferent to the news of the elder prince’s lack of spiritual power in Charles, now he felt a growing unease.

Thinking about the cold treatment Jiang Ling received in Charles, Chu Wenyu had never wanted to crush Charles more than he did now. And the fact that Jiang Ling lacked spiritual power didn’t diminish his perfection in Chu Wenyu’s eyes.

Even though he was sure that Alpha would not be harmed as long as he was here, he couldn’t help but think that perhaps the other party also wished for spiritual power. In a place where only the strong were respected, who wouldn’t want spiritual power?

The usually selfish and ruthless tyrant found himself, at this moment, foolishly contemplating how to help the prince of the enemy country gain spiritual power.

His thoughts were interrupted by a voice from behind.

Jiang Ling pushed the wheelchair with a hint of helplessness. “Your Majesty, there’s no need for this.”

It turned out that Chu Wenyu was worried that the designer’s arrangements might not meet Alpha’s preferences, so he wanted to personally take him to the warehouse to select decorations. But Jiang Ling himself was not much of a prince; he had lived roughly before and didn’t care about such things.

Chu Wenyu, who was always stubborn, didn’t listen and was even a bit angry. A prince of a nation had fallen to the point where he had no demands for his residence, which showed just how much suffering Charles had inflicted on him. The room was originally used to store miscellaneous items and was not suitable for living.

He had the steward lead the way, and they arrived in no time. Seeing the steward open the door, Chu Wenyu coldly told Jiang Ling to go in and pick something. He stayed outside because of his limited mobility.

Jiang Ling had no choice but to go in and randomly pick a couple of items.

The private treasury of a monarch was indeed filled with rare and precious treasures. Even someone like Jiang Ling, who knew little about these things, felt that he couldn’t estimate the value of any of the items inside. However, something placed not far away seemed oddly familiar.

Curious, he took a few steps closer and realized it was the same cat-headed robot he had seen when he first arrived in the room. Of course, it could be a different one, as they might have bought several of these. However, the robot before him seemed to be looking at him, its eyes shining with blue light. It just felt like the same one.

The steward followed him and, noticing Jiang Ling’s expression, explained with a smile, “This was brought in by His Majesty before, but it’s basically worthless. Your Highness Jiang Ling can go and look elsewhere.” Evidently, he had no knowledge of the situation.

After listening to the steward’s description, Jiang Ling felt that something was even stranger. For no apparent reason, why did Chu Wenyu put such a worthless thing here, especially when it looked so much like the one in his room?

“Why did His Majesty put such an ordinary household robot in here?” Due to the odd feeling in his heart, Jiang Ling asked.

The steward thought for a moment and touched the robot’s eyes, not quite sure himself, but he said, “This robot isn’t that ordinary. There seems to be something…”

Before he could finish, he was interrupted by the voice of Chu Wenyu coming from outside the door.

Chu Wenyu initially found the conversation inside to be strange, but it suddenly hit him later, reminding him of what he had done, causing his back to stiffen. He quickly clenched his fist, pressing his fingernails into his flesh, and his face turned pale.

No matter what, he couldn’t let the other party know.

“Jiang Ling… I don’t feel well,” Chu Wenyu deliberately gasped, simulating symptoms akin to his past episodes of mania.

Despite some lingering doubts, Jiang Ling had to put them aside and quickly walked out. The air around the villain seemed distorted and uncomfortable.

The steward hurriedly followed when he heard His Majesty saying he wasn’t feeling well. He found it strange because His Majesty usually didn’t speak so gently during an episode, but perhaps it was different when facing the hostage.

The moment Chu Wenyu saw the steward, he shifted Jiang Ling’s attention. “What about the therapist I asked you to find earlier?”

The steward was also a bit flustered. Since the last therapist had left, he had spent a long time searching but had only found therapists with even less capability than the previous one. Moreover, since His Majesty hadn’t had an episode for a long time, he had stopped looking.

He immediately replied, “Your Majesty, I will find one right away.”

Chu Wenyu shot him a sideways glance, signaling him to leave. After all, this was just an act. Slowly, he returned to normal, worried that the other might look into the storage room again, so he asked Jiang Ling to push him back.

“Come back next time; I’m feeling a bit unwell,” Chu Wenyu said somewhat aggrieved, but even in this state, he couldn’t help but be somewhat proud, a frown forming at the corners of his mouth.

Seeing Chu Wenyu’s earlier behavior had startled Jiang Ling. He recalled that when he first met Chu Wenyu, he had appeared like this, seemingly irritable. At that time, he only knew that there was someone kneeling at the villain’s feet, and he looked very agitated, but he didn’t know he was in so much pain.

The book mentioned that the villain had suffered some kind of spiritual damage for certain reasons, leading to this aftereffect. As the story progressed, he would become increasingly irritable, ultimately descending into madness. The reason the male lead defeated the villain was not only due to equal strength but also because he exploited this vulnerability.

“Your Majesty, you’ve seen so many therapists, but none have been able to help?” Although Chu Wenyu seemed to be less uncomfortable now, Jiang Ling still couldn’t help but ponder this matter.

He realized that he couldn’t just watch the villain follow the trajectory of the original book. Why did the villain have to sacrifice himself just because he was the villain? Jiang Ling didn’t want Chu Wenyu to suffer.

“Forget those useless people,” Chu Wenyu scoffed. “Even if they can’t cure it, they can’t even provide relief. I’ve gotten used to this feeling. Sometimes, when the symptoms are severe, I pass out from the pain. But recently, I haven’t had any episodes, perhaps because you’re here, making me feel at ease. Maybe it will come soon, but it doesn’t matter.”

Chu Wenyu seemed more concerned about something else. He asked seemingly casually, “If one day you gain spiritual power, what would you do?” His eyes were fixed on Jiang Ling, eagerly awaiting his answer.

Jiang Ling felt his heart race as he thought Chu Wenyu might have discovered his spiritual abilities. However, since the other person hadn’t explicitly stated it, he calmly replied, “That’s not within my considerations.”

Chu Wenyu, hearing his response, felt a pang in his chest and impatiently said, “What if I could find a way to make you have them? Would you be unwilling to be a hostage… will you leave me?” There was a hint of caution in his voice as he asked the latter part.

Jiang Ling was taken aback by Chu Wenyu’s words. So, the other person actually hoped he had spiritual abilities but was also worried? Suddenly, he felt uncomfortable, sensing Chu Wenyu’s goodwill and even an unusual emotion. It seemed that in these past few days, his feelings and the villain’s attitude towards him were not just his imagination. They seemed to be mutually attracted, even though both were Alphas.

Jiang Ling was a straightforward person, with no previous romantic experiences, but he was sure that the feeling of infatuation he had now was real. Even if it hadn’t reached the point of deep affection, he was certain that he couldn’t bring himself to reject the person in front of him, at least for the time being.

“I won’t leave,” Jiang Ling gently held Chu Wenyu’s hand. The villain was just too cute; he couldn’t bear to let the plot progress and watch the other person disappear.

Chu Wenyu’s eyes widened, his mind in turmoil, feeling a mix of embarrassment and anger as if his thoughts had been seen through. However, he let the Alpha hold his hand without making any move.

A kind of emotion quietly grew between them, unspoken yet deeply felt.
