VFMESR Chapter 23

The news spread like wildfire that an anonymous person, who had participated in the score match for no more than three months, defeated the relatively renowned genius therapist Zheng Ziang of Burke Star. The influential forces behind the score match started delving into the background of this anonymous victor. Defeating Zheng Ziang might not seem like a major achievement, given that he was only ranked among the top five hundred therapists. However, as they scrutinized the details of the match, they were left utterly speechless. Such power could perhaps only be possessed by the top few competitors.

So, even though this contender known as Little Jiang had yet to make it to the official rankings, in everyone’s hearts, he was already the uncrowned king. His level of spiritual ability had been a topic of much discussion among the public.

Messages flooded into Jiang Ling’s account, but he remained oblivious to them. For the past two days, he hadn’t logged in because the royal banquet was about to commence.

The media had set the stage for this banquet, as this time of year was crucial not only for Burke Star but for the entire interstellar community. The numerous news outlets were buzzing with excitement, and even gambling and betting activities revolved around the questions of which nobles had been invited and whether being invited determined one’s status on Burke Star.

Today, the palace allowed renowned media outlets to send their reporters in hours before the banquet. Well-dressed and professional journalists, eager to cover this event, set up their equipment and began to wait. They considered themselves fortunate for being chosen, knowing that if they could get an interview with any noble, it could translate into substantial wealth. There might even be some juicy stories involving Omegas climbing the social ladder.

The attendees, dressed in elegant attire, walked the red carpet, heading toward the grand banquet. Receiving an invitation from the royal family was a tremendous honor for all the nobles.

Besides ministers and the most renowned nobles within Burke Star, the steward responsible for the event also extended invitations to some of the brightest talents from Burke Star’s top academy, covering various fields, to encourage high-quality individuals to remain loyal to the king.

Zheng Ziang, too, donned the suit custom-made by a famous designer. With his striking and dashing appearance, he caught the eyes of many middle-aged nobles in attendance.

Before arriving at the palace, he had been fuming over the forum messages. It turned out that news of his defeat in the score match against an anonymous person who wasn’t even on the leaderboard had reached the therapist forum on Burke Star. His devoted fans couldn’t accept this reality, and there were even instances of fan disapproval. Their collective sense of pride was strong, and they couldn’t bear to see Burke Star’s reputation tarnished, especially since Zheng Ziang had intentionally raised the difficulty level, making his loss appear to be a case of victimization.

As Zheng Ziang walked the red carpet, he left behind the shadow of his defeat by Jiang Ling. It didn’t matter if Jiang Ling was strong, he wouldn’t escape the label of a therapist who couldn’t make a name for himself on a backwater planet. And he was representing his academy at the king’s banquet. As for those fans on the forum, he no longer regarded them as significant. Once he received recognition from His Majesty at the banquet, there would be no need to maintain those accounts—just a tiny bit of fading fame.

Zheng Ziang’s companion for the evening was Han Wenwen from the Han family. She could only attend thanks to the academy’s recommendation, and her presence was essentially a result of being in the right place at the right time. In truth, if it weren’t for the academy’s recommendation, neither of their families would have had a chance to appear at such an event.

Zheng Ziang didn’t particularly like Han Wenwen and, deep down, had intentions of mingling with other noble ladies.

Media crews were livestreaming the event, and billions of spectators watched while munching on snacks, as it wasn’t often they got to witness the grandeur of the palace.

[That Alpha looks quite handsome, and he seems to be a talented therapist from Burke Star’s top academy,] a passerby commented as he saw Zheng Ziang entering with his companion, the high-definition camera capturing his face. They speculated at the rarity of such a young Alpha attending the banquet.

[His companion looks equally fitting for the occasion. Both are aristocrats, and they have nothing to do with us.]

After everyone entered the venue one after another, the monarch in a black suit, riding in a wheelchair, made his way forward. His face, concealed by a silver-white mask, seemed even paler, and his slender fingers rested on the armrests of his wheelchair. His aura was mysterious and dark, exuding a certain enigmatic charm. No one had ever seen his true face, and the limited available information only revealed that he was the least favored son of the former king of Burke Star, which was why there were limited records about him.

Although Chu Wenyu was seated, his presence was far more commanding than those who stood. Those with weaker spiritual abilities could faintly sense the pressure he emanated.

The live broadcast camera had already focused on this monarch, and as the viewers caught sight of his deep pupils, they involuntarily held their breath. They were now witnessing the monarch in the flesh.

However, their attention was quickly diverted by the golden-haired Alpha standing beside him, as he turned his head, everyone glimpsed his perfect profile. His prominent nose seemed like a slide, and his lips curved sensually. The tailored suit suited him impeccably, exuding elegance and magnificence.

[Ah, ah, ah! I need to know everything about him in a minute!]

[This is unbelievable! Doesn’t he consider debuting as an interstellar idol?]

[Wait a minute, I’ve found something. This guy seems to be the rumored eldest prince of Charles Star…]

They had only heard vague rumors about a Charles Star’s eldest prince, but since he had never appeared in public like the genius from the Holy Dan Academy who frequently trended, no one knew what he looked like.

[Ah, are all the good-looking genes concentrated in the royal family? Why are these princes all so handsome!]

[I feel like this eldest prince has reached the peak of visual appeal! What? He doesn’t have spiritual abilities? No problem, I’ll take care of him!]

[Isn’t there supposed to be some feud between Charles Star and Burke Star?]

Jiang Ling held Chu Wenyu’s wheelchair, his brow furrowed, feeling a bit uneasy. Now, as a qualified therapist, he could sense something wrong. He could clearly feel that Chu Wenyu’s spiritual fluctuations were veering off course, though the other party might not have noticed it yet.

Chu Wenyu moistened his cherry-red lips with a sip of champagne, making them glisten. Soon, the steward announced the formal start of the banquet. The nobles began mingling and conversing with one another. While no one was looking, Chu Wenyu, with his back to the camera, revealed a hint of mischief in his eyes. He subtly shifted the direction of his glass, aligning it with Jiang Ling, and then handed him the champagne.

“Your lips are so dry. Are you thirsty?” he purred, his voice low and lazy, while his eyes wandered over his Alpha.

Clearly, he was quite pleased, especially when he saw the photographer capture him alongside Jiang Ling. Alpha looked even more handsome in the suit than he did that day.

Jiang Ling raised an eyebrow in helplessness, not really understanding what the villain meant. But he couldn’t afford to let anyone discover these forbidden emotions. So, he subtly shifted away from the camera, taking a sip from the glass, making sure it glistened in Chu Wenyu’s view.

Chu Wenyu could distinctly see the movement of his adam’s apple as it rolled down his perfect throat, with a touch of the sparkling drink on those perfect lips. There was nothing else in his eyes, only Jiang Ling’s figure. This could be described as their first indirect kiss, a moment born out of his subtle probing.

“Thank you for your hospitality, Your Majesty,” Jiang Ling set down the glass, his lips curving in a slight smile, though it was unclear whether he was thanking for the drink or something else.
