VFMESR Chapter 34

After attending the lecture, Jiang Ling revisited his knowledge about therapy in his mind, enhancing his skills and no longer relying blindly on instinct as before.

Seated in the living room, he logged into his Star Network account, currently chatting with teammates from the Interstellar Score Match platform and discussing upcoming updates on the annual points match. Recently, the team captain had organized everyone to exchange social accounts and created a small group for easier communication.

The team was currently discussing the upcoming annual points match rankings update. As the year-end approached, the official competition would organize a large-scale PK match where victorious therapists would earn double the usual points. Moreover, after the competition, the overall rankings would be updated based on each member’s points.

For organizations ranking high, not only did they receive monetary rewards, but they also gained significant fame. This led to international invitations for team members and opened doors to various profitable opportunities. In many countries, therapists often included such achievements in their resumes.

For the well-off nobles, aside from fame, other benefits might be of little importance. However, for the Warwick organization where Jiang Ling belonged, this was undoubtedly the most crucial event of the year. Most of them came from garbage stars or ordinary small galaxies, facing concerns about their material livelihood.

This year was different, as their organization had a star player.

Jiang Ling scrolled through the rapid-fire 99+ messages. The teammates were actively engaging in the conversation, and he, as one of them, occasionally chimed in.

He wasn’t initially interested in this PK match at all. Clearly, for him now, the investment and return aren’t directly proportional. However, he liked the atmosphere of the group. Feeling a sense of responsibility as a team member, he went along with the captain’s arrangements, especially since he had plenty of leisure time in the palace.

[Captain, even with Little Jiang on our side, I feel it’s challenging for him alone to boost our overall points.]

[True, other major organizations have much more to offer. Our competitiveness is lacking.]

[Wait, I have an idea. How about spending time each day until the match for systematic exchange and learning? It might help everyone rapidly improve.]

[I’d like that, but it might be unfair to the stronger members, wasting their time.]

[Then, during the competition, let’s distribute the majority of the prize money to the members who contribute the most.]

After much consideration, the captain found this to be the most effective training method in the short term. However, he understood that Jiang Ling’s skills surpassed theirs significantly, and such obvious assistance required Jiang Ling’s consent.

He messaged Jiang Ling privately, feeling a bit awkward. If he hadn’t forcefully recruited him into their organization, perhaps his development would be even better. Many therapists from other organizations with skills comparable to Zheng Ziang had already gained media exposure in their home countries, enjoying both fame and fortune, even participating in various entertainment programs and earning handsomely.

[Little Jiang, take a look at the team’s discussion results, and consider it. If it doesn’t work, we can discuss other options,] the captain said, unwilling to force Jiang Ling into a decision. He gave Jiang Ling the freedom to choose, and even if rejected, there was no resentment.

Jiang Ling glanced over the suggestions; the consensus was a fixed timeline for video communication.

He furrowed his brow, having plenty of time wasn’t the issue. The concern was the appropriateness of video communication in his original identity—a prince of the nation. Though the original owner had little fame, the risk of his identity being exposed was still significant.

However, wearing a mask during the video call could be a solution.

Jiang Ling amusingly recalled that on the eve of the battle between him and Zheng Ziang, the team members were very active in offering suggestions to help him avoid the PK Battle.

[I have no objections.]

Upon receiving Jiang Ling’s message, the captain breathed a sigh of relief and quickly started planning the timeline in the group.

Managing an organization was a tiresome task. After deciding to focus on this venture, the captain had given up his stable but modestly paying job. The pressures from both family and society were large. In the trashy star he stayed in, being a therapist was a niche and challenging profession. Without connections or fame, earning a decent income was nearly impossible.

So, he was putting everything on the line, hoping for good results this time to avoid difficulties in basic living.

Jiang Ling also actively joined the discussion with the team.

When the door opened, he turned to see Chu Wenyu pushing a wheelchair out of the study, followed by the steward, indicating they had finished discussing state affairs. The steward seemed to be whispering something to Chu Wenyu, but he immediately muted the conversation upon noticing Jiang Ling. While a strange feeling arose in Jiang Ling, understanding it might involve sensitive political matters, he chose not to pay much attention to it.

Chu Wenyu, who had an initially impatient expression, softened upon seeing Jiang Ling and even with a faint smile on his face.

The steward had long sensed the subtle atmosphere between the two, not to mention the tasks given to him by the emperor, each with an obvious intention. He already had shocking speculations and quickly left the scene.

Jiang Ling smiled at Chu Wenyu, and coincidentally, someone in the group asked him a question. After a moment’s thought, he replied with a message.

Observing Jiang Ling’s actions, Chu Wenyu slowed his pace, and the smile on his face faded.

Who is he chatting with?

Chu Wenyu found it hard to accept that Jiang Ling had matters beyond his knowledge, igniting an intense sense of fear. Drawing closer, he placed a hand on Jiang Ling’s arm and then embraced him, resting his head on Jiang Ling’s shoulder.

His eyes remained fixed on the screen where Jiang Ling was chatting.

“Who are you chatting with?” Chu Wenyu pursed his lips, his dark eyes deep and alluring.

Since he revealed about his spiritual power before, Jiang Ling had no intention of keeping these things from Chu Wenyu. He explained the recent therapist’s point-based match and, without hesitation, informed Chu Wenyu about the upcoming video exchange. He didn’t want any misunderstandings later.

“No need to participate in such a competition. Whatever you want, I can provide.” Chu Wenyu rubbed his cheek against Jiang Ling’s shoulder, completely uninterested in the prize money. His initial reaction was to clearly delineate Jiang Ling from the outside world.

“It’s okay; it’s boring in the palace anyway.” Jiang Ling hooked his lips, amused by Chu Wenyu’s rude attitude towards the competition’s winnings.

As Chu Wenyu looked at the chaotic avatars and unfamiliar jokes in the group, a growing heaviness settled in his heart. It felt as if his significance in Jiang Ling’s world was diminishing.

“Is staying by my side that boring?” Chu Wenyu couldn’t control the tone and expression, and a gloomy anger leaked out.

Sensing something wrong, Jiang Ling looked down at him, momentarily puzzled by the expression on Chu Wenyu’s face. The black eyes stayed calm and clear, with the changing expressions giving the impression of plotting something within. There was no hint of a smile on his face, even the large red birthmark seemed to take on a mysterious allure.

Instinctively, Jiang Ling tried to comfort him, “Your Majesty is usually busy with state affairs, so I can find something to do on the side.” Wasn’t this normal?

“I don’t need to be busy.” Chu Wenyu looked up at him, firm in his statement.

Jiang Ling furrowed his brows in confusion; at this moment, Chu Wenyu seemed a bit abnormal. Normal romantic relationships should involve having personal space for both individuals.

“I need to have my own space, though.” Jiang Ling looked at him calmly. He wasn’t Chu Wenyu’s possession. However, he understood that Chu Wenyu’s strong personality might be due to his lack of experience in relationships. With time and patience, they could work it out.

Chu Wenyu felt things slipping out of control. He discreetly clenched his fingers, the internal turmoil and agitation reaching its peak. Yet, Jiang Ling just watched him, preventing him from erupting.

Chu Wenyu shrugged his shoulders, slowly releasing his fist. The lowered upper eyelashes cast a faint shadow, at least outwardly conceding.

Jiang Ling’s heart softened, feeling gratified that some of the extreme traits in the villain’s personality were slowly changing. He closed the Star Network without participating further in the discussion.

“Don’t worry; I won’t leave.” Jiang Ling rubbed Chu Wenyu’s chin, attempting to lighten the atmosphere. He didn’t want to upset Chu Wenyu; he just wanted their relationship to become healthier. If not, conflicts might brew, risking their freedom.

Chu Wenyu closed his eyes and nodded slightly, his thoughts hidden.
