VFMESR Chapter 36

It was a sunny morning.

Although Chu Wenyu successfully redirected Jiang Ling’s interest toward mechas, Jiang Ling remained deeply committed to his promises. In this situation, the day for the first video call with the members of the Warwick team arrived as scheduled.

Looking forward to seeing his companions, Jiang Ling felt a mix of curiosity and excitement. Chu Wenyu leaned casually against the door, his ink-black hair falling smoothly, observing Jiang Ling at the control panel. Occasionally, he’d bite his finger, but his expression remained normal, devoid of any dissatisfaction.

“I’ll go handle some official matters in the study. Once you’re done here, come find me,” Chu Wenyu casually suggested, clearly aiming not to disrupt them. He understood that Alphas like Jiang Ling didn’t appreciate interference, so he had to appear understanding, at least not to make Jiang Ling resent him.

Jiang Ling turned to him, putting on a mask and giving a thumbs-up gesture. The exposed part of his eyes curved, evidently surprised at Chu Wenyu’s quick and significant change.

Chu Wenyu gave Jiang Ling a final glance and nonchalantly wheeled himself away, considerately closing the door behind him.

He did go to the study, but his actions were the opposite of what he claimed. After closing the study door, he sighed and emotionlessly equipped a listening device. The suppressed emotions from earlier were now laid bare. With closed eyes, he listened to the activities on the other side, his dark expression hardly showing understanding.

How could he genuinely trust such a situation?

The group leader initiated the video call, and Jiang Ling double-checked to ensure his room’s decor wouldn’t expose his location. After confirming his appearance, he pressed the join button for the video call.

The team was relatively small, only a few dozen people. For various reasons and effectiveness, only a dozen or so participated in the video call to ensure everyone got attention.

Jiang Ling had prepared for the first training, with a stack of books and materials on his desk. As all members joined the video, he saw different faces, and the names from the online world suddenly became vivid.

Glancing over, most were young, appearing to be in their twenties or thirties. There were both males and females, both A and O types.

Despite Jiang Ling wearing a mask, the visible part and the room’s decor caught everyone’s attention.

“Didn’t expect Little Jiang to be so young. I thought someone with that level of skill would be at least thirty,” the captain said, with shoulder-length hair and noticeable stubble, giving off a laid-back vibe. It matched the online impression—easygoing and skilled in creating a friendly atmosphere.

As he spoke first, other team members laughed and joined in, creating a lively exchange.

“Little Jiang, why are you wearing a mask?” a young female Omega curiously asked, around twenty years old. She was intrigued by what Jiang Ling’s face looked like beneath the mask, as even with the mask on, he was captivating.

But perhaps, the mask was the secret weapon that made his lower face appealing.

She had a favorable impression of Jiang Ling because during the previous encounter with the foul-mouthed Wang Chong, Jiang Ling had stood up for the organization.

Jiang Ling awkwardly smiled, unable to reveal the real reason. He casually came up with an excuse, “I had a seafood allergy a couple of days ago, so I’m wearing the mask to avoid giving a bad impression.”

The crowd nodded knowingly.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, everyone earnestly began sharing their experiences and raising their doubts. Jiang Ling, being a modern traditionalist, diligently recorded everyone’s information and situations with pen and paper to facilitate targeted improvement in the future.

Warwick’s overall organization was indeed a bit weak. There were only a few with A-level spiritual abilities, and B-level was considered good. C-level and D-level were quite common, as it was challenging to progress further in the field of therapists.

Jiang Ling could only try to maximize their potential, aiming for progress compared to their previous levels. Around halfway through, fatigue set in, leading to a casual chat to lighten the atmosphere.

After this discussion, Jiang Ling had a good understanding of their basic situation. The captain was open about being from a trashy planet, maintaining an optimistic outlook. Others also hailed from garbage planets or ordinary families on small planets, with various professions. Na Li, a rare college student among them, specialized in therapy. The captain ran the team full-time.

They were curious about Jiang Ling’s background, as the conditions and attitude he showed in the video seemed different from their circle.

“Little Jiang, are you studying in college?” The captain asked boldly.

This wasn’t a tough question. Jiang Ling shook his head truthfully, saying, “No.”

Everyone was puzzled, as he didn’t seem unable to afford education. Subsequent questions followed, and Jiang Ling gave half-truths and half-lies.

Now everyone knew Jiang Ling was from an ordinary family on Burke Star, even though he looked extraordinary. It impressed them because Burke Star was not well-known, and many of them came from places unknown to most. So, a normal family on Burke Star seemed… normal.

Na Li developed a strong liking for Jiang Ling due to his meticulous attitude during training. Being in her prime, she couldn’t resist someone good-looking, and her attention shifted more towards Jiang Ling.

“Little Jiang, you’re much fairer than me, a girl.” She feigned envy, her eyes showing shyness.

Due to the small screens, Jiang Ling didn’t notice.

He was about to respond politely, when he heard the sound of the door opening.

It was Chu Wenyu, pushing a wheelchair, holding a cup of water. The cup matched the couple’s cups they both had.

“Hurry up and take it. The water’s about to spill,” Chu Wenyu complained, furrowing his brows. Juggling the wheelchair and the cup was a bit challenging.

Of course, he didn’t look genuinely angry, even though his heart was on fire.

Jiang Ling quickly took the cup, saying, “Were you worried I’d get thirsty, so you brought water?”

Chu Wenyu arrogantly said, “No.”

However, this only emphasized what he really wanted to convey.

In fact, Chu Wenyu had been sitting in the study, attentively listening to their conversation for over an hour. At first, there was nothing special, and he could endure it. But with his keen perception, he became increasingly uneasy when he noticed one of the female voices constantly talking about his Alpha. He understood that such novelty could easily spark interest, even if the person wasn’t outstanding; otherwise, so many people wouldn’t fall into online relationships.

The more suppressed it was before, the easier it is to explode now. Chu Wenyu couldn’t bear it anymore, not even to this extent.

So, with a cold face, he removed the listening device and was about to find Jiang Ling. However, to achieve his goal without losing ground, Chu Wenyu came up with a somewhat reluctant excuse.

Sure enough, as soon as he spoke, Na Li’s previous question was interrupted. Everyone became interested in the person who had suddenly burst into Jiang Ling’s room.

Although they couldn’t see Chu Wenyu, it didn’t stop them from speculating on the side.

The tone and voice must be related to Jiang Ling for sure!

“Hey, little Jiang, what’s the relationship between you and the guy who just spoke? Introduce the little brother to us,” the captain asked, joining the excitement.

Unable to gauge Chu Wenyu’s age by his voice, the captain, as a married man, could sense a certain intimacy in their conversation. They must be around the same age; calling him ‘little brother’ was appropriate!

Chu Wenyu had never been addressed like this before, so his face immediately darkened. Nevertheless, it provided him with an opportunity to express his true feelings.

Jiang Ling, at this moment, instantly realized the potential trouble. In this world, Chu Wenyu was a monarch with extreme authority, someone else could lose an eye just for looking at a bit longer.

Concerned about the captain getting into trouble, Jiang Ling quickly explained, “He’s my boyfriend. He’s a bit aloof and doesn’t like people gossiping about him.”

Everyone made a deliberate “oh” sound, not continuing the banter. However, Na Li, upon hearing this, widened her eyes and seemed absent-minded for the next few minutes, not contributing to the conversation.

She didn’t expect her budding love to be nipped in the bud so quickly.

While the captain escaped the disaster, Jiang Ling had brought trouble upon himself.

Upon hearing Jiang Ling immediately clarify their relationship, Chu Wenyu was somewhat pleased. The potential issues were nipped in the bud. However, the tone from the other side seemed off. Was he disapproving of Chu Wenyu’s aloofness, unhappy that he didn’t want to interact with his friends?

Once the video call on Jiang Ling’s side ended, Chu Wenyu iced his face and ignored Jiang Ling. He was venting not just about the video call but verbally expressed only the reasonable part.

“What’s the matter? I asked you to make friends, and now you’re blaming me for not liking them?” Chu Wenyu erupted.

Jiang Ling realized he had hurt Chu Wenyu with his words. In his eyes, Chu Wenyu was the most important, and he couldn’t let him cater to others.

“I thought I had already done a lot. If you’re still not satisfied, it will make me dislike those people even more.” Chu Wenyu squeezed his thigh forcefully, and his eyes welled up.

Jiang Ling explained and comforted him, but the tyrant remained displeased.

“Next time, without my consent, you can’t video call them again.” Chu Wenyu, seeing Jiang Ling’s remorseful look, immediately declared when the timing was right.

This way, he wouldn’t be deliberately intruding into Alpha’s personal space. Instead, Jiang Ling, due to his interaction with friends, had hurt him, giving him a ‘reasonable’ reason to be angry.

Given his personality, isn’t it expected for him to do such things?

Jiang Ling, having a preliminary understanding of everyone’s situation, agreed to text in the group later. To avoid hurting Chu Wenyu again, he promised.

He felt regretful. Even if unintentional, he shouldn’t have spoken about his boyfriend’s shortcomings in front of others.

Moreover, someone like Chu Wenyu, who could go this far for him, was already rare.

After accomplishing his mission, Chu Wenyu patted the Alpha squatting beside him. He subtly curved his lips, revealing sharp tiger teeth.

The author has something to say:

Jiang Ling: Another day of being fooled by my wife…

For those who have read the summary, don’t worry, the author knows. Chu Chu will definitely pay a price; if some of you can’t endure this deceived attack scene for a while, then I can’t help it. I will do it according to my own thoughts. If it suits you, stay; otherwise, farewell, my friends~ Kisses~
