In the coffee shop.
Dressed up in fancy brand-name clothes, the aristocratic kid couldn’t take it anymore, staring at the girl in front of him who completely ignored him. If it weren’t for his family’s elders demanding him to come for a blind date, he would have left ages ago.
Sitting across from him was the princess’s daughter, initially indifferent but gradually becoming more dismissive.
Unable to bear it any longer, he frowned, preparing to say his goodbyes. However, he noticed the girl suddenly looking lost, gripping her phone with moist eyes.
Replaying the person’s rejection in her mind, Anna lost all interest in continuing the conversation. She didn’t even realize the young man had already stood up; she was busy fighting back tears, immediately heading to settle the bill.
Almost running out of the coffee shop, her tears unstoppable.
The bodyguard waiting at the door quickly followed her. Anna, however, didn’t want to go home so soon. She wandered aimlessly on the street, trying to ease her inner discomfort.
She should have expected this, considering Jiang Ling had never shown any special feelings towards her from the beginning. It was just that the person appeared when she was most sad, and it wasn’t so easy for her to adjust herself.
Arriving at a park, she randomly sat on the stone bricks. The ground was cold, making the sitting uncomfortable but far less painful than the ache in her chest.
Maybe it can be sorted out in a week? Or perhaps a month…
Anna comforted herself internally but couldn’t hold back her murmured lament.
“Jiang Ling, why don’t you like me?”
She didn’t care about the odd glances from passersby; they were strangers. She just wanted to let it out.
The nearby bodyguard, upon hearing the familiar name, subtly moved his ears.
“Miss, don’t be sad anymore. I’ll take you home,” he bowed, speaking softly.
“I want some time alone. Can you go away and stop bothering me?” Anna lifted her tearful eyes, not very kindly.
Since she returned home, her mother, in an attempt to make her obedient for the blind date, hired this guy to follow her. Officially for protection, it felt more like surveillance to Anna, and she had no fondness for him.
Externally, the bodyguard seemed to be in his early thirties, tall and robust, wearing a well-fitted suit. However, he seemed a bit rough around the edges, with a stubble and sunglasses on his face.
Anna always felt uncomfortable around him, so she was wary of the bodyguard.
“Protecting you is my duty,” the bodyguard stood firm.
“But if Miss is truly bothered, maybe I can help you,” he added, his eyes behind the sunglasses revealing a somewhat bloodthirsty excitement.
Having endured patiently for so long, Wilson had finally found an opportunity for revenge.
Yes, this man was none other than Wilson, in disguise.
A few months ago, misfortune struck. First, he was inexplicably removed from the position of the captain of the guard by the monarch. Shortly after, his entire family was banished to a remote planet.
At that moment, he had no idea what mistake he had made. But when he questioned the monarch about it, the ruler’s sharp gaze turned cold, uttering, “You shouldn’t have touched him.”
In an instant, he understood everything. The monarch he had served for decades had turned against him due to a romantic entanglement.
Under the monarch’s command, his entire family had to move to a desolate planet. Wilson couldn’t accept this reality. He couldn’t accept it. To settle things for his so-called monarch, he hurt the woman he loved. Now, it just seems stupid.
Wilson managed to disguise his identity, hiding in the capital of Burke Star. If Chu Wenyu treated him without kindness, he wouldn’t show mercy either. As for the hostage who had a face that could deceive the monarch, he wouldn’t let him go.
The royal palace was heavily guarded, making it impossible for him to sneak in even after several months. Upon hearing that the eldest princess was searching for a bodyguard, he decided to take a different approach. Although the eldest princess didn’t reside in the palace, being a member of the royal family provided him an opportunity.
And here it was, the chance knocking at his door.
“What on earth are you talking about? I’ve told you before, can’t you stop bothering me?” Anna had no clue what this guy was blabbering about; she hadn’t paid attention at all. She just occasionally scrolled through their chat history, feeling increasingly upset.
Wilson’s voice deepened, “Miss, have you ever considered that Prince Jiang Ling might not genuinely want to reject you?”
Anna’s expression immediately turned serious upon hearing his words. “How do you know his identity? And what do you mean by what you just said? If you don’t explain clearly, I’ll tell my mother.”
Wilson knew Anna needed his help now, and even if she questioned his identity, she wouldn’t disclose it to the eldest princess. So, he half-truthfully said, “I used to be a guard in the palace, so I know a few things.”
“How did you end up like this?” Princess Anna remained skeptical.
Not everyone could become a palace guard. Some were from minor noble families, while others got the position due to their formidable strength. Though considered a low-ranking role, it held promising prospects.
“Because I made some mistakes that angered His Majesty, so I was expelled from the palace,” Wilson looked somewhat dejected.
Princess Anna believed his explanation, having witnessed his skills, which indeed qualified him for a palace guard. Besides, she was currently heartbroken and didn’t want to delve into too many details.
“What do you mean by what you said earlier?” Princess Anna felt a glimmer of hope. Could it be that Jiang Ling had some undisclosed reasons? Did she still have a chance?
Despite her uncle and mother opposing their union due to Jiang Ling’s status as a hostage, Anna didn’t care. She didn’t want to be a noblewoman; she just wanted to be with the person she liked. Moreover, if they could be together, she could keep Jiang Ling away from the palace forever, which would be beneficial for him. He wouldn’t be confined to the royal palace anymore.
“Miss, have you ever thought about why Prince Jiang Ling rejected you?” Wilson gently prodded.
“Of course, it’s because he doesn’t like me,” Anna didn’t understand why he was asking such nonsense.
“You’re joking, Miss. Who wouldn’t like you? The truth is, he can’t accept your affection.”
Anna was even more confused.
“Prince Jiang Ling is actually treated quite well in the palace, right?”
Although unsure why he was asking, Anna thought for a moment and realized it was true. Her uncle treated Jiang Ling fairly well, but what did that have to do with her?
“If an ordinary hostage had such treatment, it’s because His Majesty is interested in Prince Jiang Ling.” Wilson whispered softly in Anna’s ear.
The news was too shocking. Anna first frowned and scolded, “What nonsense are you talking about?”
How could her uncle…
Leaving aside Jiang Ling’s identity, her uncle could only harbor resentment towards him. Moreover, her uncle and Jiang Ling were both Alphas, which was entirely impossible.
“I’m not lying. Otherwise, why would His Majesty keep Prince Jiang Ling close instead of throwing him into prison?” Wilson insisted.
Princess Anna thought he might be insane, but deep down, she began to review her days in the palace, involuntarily leaning towards believing the unbelievable answer.
The closeness between Uncle and Jiang Ling was witnessed by her own eyes. Not only did they eat and live together, but wherever Uncle went, Jiang Ling would follow. Moreover, after she expressed her feelings for Jiang Ling to Uncle, she felt a sudden change in his mood. Immediately, he even sent someone to kick her out of the palace. Initially, she thought Uncle didn’t want her to be with a hostage, but now she thinks he might not want her to compete for Jiang Ling.
“Miss, if you don’t believe it, there’s nothing I can do. It’s just that given His Majesty’s temperament, he must have forced Prince Jiang Ling to stay by his side, so Prince Jiang Ling couldn’t agree to your request.”
Anna shook her head in disbelief, but thinking of Jiang Ling’s almost perfect face, she was starting to believe deep down. Perhaps Uncle didn’t care about his Alpha status because of this appearance.
“Even so, what can you do? If he is truly the one His Majesty favors, what can I do?” Princess Anna sighed and sat down, feeling defeated. She couldn’t compete with His Majesty.
“Naturally, I have a way.” Wilson smiled and whispered something in Princess Anna’s ear.
Jiang Ling didn’t know how to face Chu Wenyu. He couldn’t constantly reflect on his actions, wondering what would displease Chu Wenyu and what consequences it would bring.
Even though he looked as if nothing had happened, Jiang Ling couldn’t act like everything was normal. However, fortunately, he had the Therapist Score Match as an excuse to spend some time alone in the small space, contemplating what to do in the future.
Chu Wenyu acted quickly. Almost immediately after seeking Jiang Ling’s consent, he sent someone to send Anji back to Charles. This time he was merciful and even instructed to provide Anji with a comfortable life.
With another problem resolved, Chu Wenyu was naturally in a good mood. Now, there would be no other distractions for Alpha in his eyes.
After dinner, Chu Wenyu turned to look at Jiang Ling, who was pushing the wheelchair behind him. He eagerly tugged at Jiang Ling’s sleeve, saying, “How about practicing mechas together today? I’ve already taken care of official matters and can accompany you.”
Jiang Ling, snapping out of his daze, forced a smile, “No need, Your Majesty. Rest well today. The competition is approaching, and I need to practice more.”
This was, of course, an excuse. Battles in the small program were no longer helping him improve, but he couldn’t naturally interact with Chu Wenyu now. All the changes he thought had occurred were illusions, or he had never truly understood this supposed villain, Chu Wenyu.
Being rejected, Chu Wenyu was not pleased. “Your strength is already impressive. After all, not everyone can help me with healing. There’s no need to waste more time.”
This made Jiang Ling even more complicated. He didn’t want to become a puppet who just followed orders. Perhaps this competition wasn’t so important, but he didn’t want to compromise. He didn’t want every situation to be like this in the future.
“I think it’s necessary,” Jiang Ling released the wheelchair handles.
He looked at Chu Wenyu, understanding that the fluttering in his heart was not fake. At the same time, facing this impenetrable web, he began to want to escape.
Chu Wenyu was stunned, tightened his fingers around the wheelchair handles, feeling helpless. He didn’t understand why Alpha suddenly acted like this when there was no one else to compete with him.
“Your Majesty, I’ll go prepare first,” Jiang Ling couldn’t bear to see him like this, afraid he would soften and compromise again. So, he decided not to look.
After saying that, he turned and went back to his room. Anyway, he was already in the palace, within the villain’s line of sight. There shouldn’t be much the other party could do now.
Chu Wenyu watched Jiang Ling’s retreating figure, a sense of determination mixed with panic growing within his heart.
