VFMESR Chapter 4

The news that the monarch had arranged the enemy prince, a hostage, to be by his side spread among the ministers in less than a day. They united hastily and went to the palace early to see His Majesty.

Though they had complete faith in His Majesty’s power, they were always worried about unexpected occurrences.

Inside the palace, Chu Wenyu had reached the peak of impatience, his eyes half-closed.

The steward standing by the side noticed the situation and thought it was not good. These days happened to be the time when His Majesty’s spiritual power was irritable, and his temper was very bad.

He had intended to hurry and arrange for His Majesty’s exclusive spiritual therapist to wait outside the hall, but he suddenly remembered that the therapist had been dismissed yesterday due to inadequate abilities.

He was in a hurry, but the ministers below seemed completely oblivious and continued speaking energetically.

“Your Majesty, you mustn’t place the Crown Prince of Charles Star by your side!”

“Now that the Second Prince of Charles, Jiang Qian, has entered the Holy Dan Academy, this is a major threat to our Burke Star.”

“Although rumors say that this Crown Prince has no spiritual power, who knows if it’s true or false? Your Majesty, you must not let your guard down.”

Most importantly, His Majesty is now turning 30 without having any heirs; so there can be no room for error.

“I have my own arrangements,” a chilly voice came.

Hearing Chu Wenyu speak, the courtiers below dared not speak any further. Some of them were older than this monarch by two generations and were once the young talents of Burke Star. However, not a single one dared to say more at this moment.

After all, who didn’t know that their monarch had an SS-level spiritual power? Throughout the country, no one could oppose him. Moreover, when their monarch acted, he did so based on his mood without paying attention to the consequences. Otherwise, how could so many popular princes who sought the throne have disappeared from the public eye long ago? Just thinking about it still sent shivers down their spines.

Chu Wenyu looked at the half-aged ministers below, and grew even more impatient. Suddenly, the image of that fair and lovely face flashed through his mind. Recently, he could even feel the person’s shallow breath and smell the pleasant scent of his pheromones.

Cool and refreshing, wrapping around him.

But the thought of that lowly hostage possibly touching his leg, feeling his body, made Chu Wenyu’s eyelids tremble, and he felt a wave of nausea from the depths of his soul.

A feeling of nausea at being touched by an alpha.

The more comfortable he felt physically, the more he hated and felt disgusted mentally.

“What’s this? Do you want me to send you all back home?” Chu Wenyu vented his temper on the courtiers, his voice cold and far from ordinary.

Only the finance minister had the nerve to ask again, his voice low, “Your Majesty, when do you plan to take a consort? The neighboring Omega princess and many of your ministers have eligible Omegas at home…”

Chu Wenyu seemed ignited by the word ‘Omega,’ his gaze turning fierce. His spiritual power spread through the hall, and the minister staggered back, coughing blood.

No regard for the etiquette between ruler and subject.

“I don’t want anyone defying my wishes.”

The other ministers, once again, were terrified by Chu Wenyu’s horrifying spiritual power and hurriedly left the palace.

In their hearts, they could only think that while Alpha kings might not go into heat, they had never seen one avoid Omegas like their king had for decades. Once there was a famous Omega in the Burke Star, whose pheromones affected almost all Alphas like an aphrodisiac. When she came to perform at the palace, this monarch didn’t show any interest, even getting bored and leaving the banquet early.

Perhaps the reason for his Majesty’s current irritable mood was a hormonal imbalance?

In the palace, there was no one left except him. Chu Wenyu finally felt a hint of calm. He had sat alone in his wheelchair all afternoon, motionless.

By evening, he had convinced himself that Jiang Ling was an interesting diversion in his boredom.

Unfortunately, this amusement might only last a short time.

Chu Wenyu’s expression was cruel, fitting for a monarch.

He wore only a thin undershirt, lying in his chilly bedroom, staring at the live feed of Jiang Ling’s activities.

Jiang Ling had moved to a side hall, a two-story villa. He resided on the second floor alone, while Anji and the maid recently sent by Chu Wenyu, named Maige, lived on the first floor.

Besides these few living beings in the villa, there was also a household intelligent robot, designed to look like a cat’s head but with a humanoid body.

In Jiang Ling’s words, it was ‘ugly cute.’

But the cat head’s eyes were quite captivating, shimmering with blue light. Based on its appearance, Jiang Ling gave it a very ordinary and repetitive name, ‘Mao Mao.’

“Mao Mao, can you help me apply for a Star Network account?” Jiang Ling called out loudly while taking a shower.

The mechanical voice responded, “Master, the account has been created.” It stood in the living room, answering Jiang Ling’s request.

Jiang Ling turned off the shower and used a towel to dry his wet hair. In the mirror, the man, or perhaps more appropriately, the boy, had an exceptionally handsome face. His bone structure was incredibly appealing, striking a balance between ruggedness and gentleness, exuding an ethereal charm.

His slightly curled golden hair paired with his deep gaze made him even more captivating. In modern terms, he had the kind of look that could easily enchant little girls.

Jiang Ling glanced at the mirror, satisfied that he knew what he looked like, and stepped out of the bathroom in his bathrobe.

Being good-looking didn’t put food on the table; the original owner of this body had still ended up as cannon fodder.

Jiang Ling made his way to the living room, where he affectionately petted the robotic cat’s face. Compared to the maidservant who had been sent by the villain to spy on him, he found this robot much cuter and more pleasing to the eye.

He sat on the couch and began to access the Star Network, searching for information relevant to his situation.

Chu Wenyu lay on his bed, watching as the screen suddenly zoomed in on Jiang Ling’s face, his gaze locked onto the camera. Then the screen went black for a moment, and he almost thought that Jiang Ling had discovered the surveillance.

It wasn’t until the image returned to brightness that he breathed a sigh of relief. However, he couldn’t help but sneer at the thought that even if Jiang Ling did find out, what difference would it make? If he was in a bad mood, he could just send the Royal Guards to openly monitor him.

Watching the Alpha on the screen, not knowing if he was searching for information or contacting someone, Chu Wenyu became vigilant. He narrowed his eyes with the spirit of a detective and stared intently for a moment.

But the distance was too great, and he couldn’t see anything clearly.

The robot wasn’t all that intelligent either; it stood still without responding unless summoned by its owner.

Chu Wenyu glanced at the remote control in his hand, pondered for a moment, then gritted his teeth and, dragging his sore body, reached for the user manual on the bedside table. After some time deciphering it, he manipulated the cat’s head to slowly approach Jiang Ling and take a look at the information on the Star Network.

Jiang Ling felt a chill down his spine as he sensed something behind him. He was about to turn and adjust the room’s temperature higher when he saw the bizarrely magnified cat’s head.

He raised an eyebrow in puzzlement, thinking that this robot was a bit too intelligent and somewhat creepy.

“Mao Mao, raise the air conditioning temperature a bit,” he said, then turned back to continue reading the responses on the star network.

Among these responses, he faintly sensed that the substance in his mind was something like spiritual energy, though he didn’t know where it came from. Continuing to read should provide some answers.

“You dare to order me?” Chu Wenyu blurted out without much thought in the empty room, his anger flaring.

Just as he said that, the cat robot mechanically responded, “Alright, master.”

Chu Wenyu’s face turned red and then white. It took him quite a while to release his tightly clenched fists and refocus on the information on the screen.

Spiritual energy?

Why was Jiang Ling searching for that?

He clearly felt that Jiang Ling had no spiritual energy within him. There were only two possible explanations for this situation: either Jiang Ling truly had no spiritual energy, or his spiritual energy surpassed Chu Wenyu’s. Of course, Chu Wenyu hadn’t even considered the latter possibility.

However, he had heard that this eldest prince had gone to great lengths to find a way to generate spiritual energy.

Chu Wenyu found himself losing interest in what he was reading. He only wanted to gather evidence that Jiang Ling was a threat to his Burke Star. With sufficient reason, he could then launch an attack on Charles.

Although such reasoning meant nothing to him personally, he didn’t want those old folks to bother him anymore.

Today, he probably wouldn’t find any useful evidence. Chu Wenyu only hoped that the fool, Maige, would act soon.

He initially intended to turn off the video, but the cat’s eye was directly aimed at Alpha’s fair and dewy neck, still dotted with water droplets, and then moved downward…

Everything was crystal clear.

“Mao Mao, is the temperature a bit too high? Why does it feel so hot?” Jiang Ling turned his head to inquire, his slender fingers trying to find any buttons on the robot. This robot didn’t seem very smart.

Chu Wenyu watched as the robot’s gaze got closer and closer to the snowy-white chest, and his ears started to heat up. Then, without expression, he abruptly turned off the surveillance feed.
