VFMESR Chapter 40

Jiang Ling carefully closed the door and sighed in relief before sitting down. He didn’t want Chu Wenyu to sense anything off about him, fearing what the other might do if he did.

A few months back, if time could rewind, knowing the true face of the tyrant, Jiang Ling would have logically found a way to escape this cage. But now, despite knowing those things, he still liked Chu Wenyu, or else he wouldn’t feel so frustrated.

Unable to think of a solution, Jiang Ling temporarily pushed it aside and shifted his focus through battles in the Score Match. Yet, Chu Wenyu was right; those battles didn’t contribute much to his skill improvement, bordering on boredom. Still, it seemed easier than facing Chu Wenyu.

Each match ended too quickly, and eventually, Jiang Ling found them tiresome. But, sitting in front of the computer, occasionally chatting with the Warwick group members, reading their amusing remarks in the group chat added some entertainment.

Jiang Ling would chime in from time to time. Perhaps his low spirits were too evident; the group members sensed it through his brief texts.

Someone tentatively asked, “Hey, Little Jian, what’s up with you today?”

Jiang Ling forced a bitter smile, “Nothing.”

“Tsk, didn’t you have a fight with your boyfriend?” A member guessed.

Since the last video call, after hearing that unfamiliar male voice, the entire group knew Little Jian had a partner, and a possessive one at that. So, they refrained from disturbing him during this period, aware that his partner wasn’t someone to mess with.

Suddenly being guessed right, Jiang Ling felt a bit weary. However, since he arrived in this world, there were hardly any people he could talk to. At this moment, he couldn’t help but want to share, so he briefly explained his situation.

“Yeah, he’s too possessive, and it’s stressing me out.”

The group members discussed it lively, but Jiang Ling felt there weren’t many constructive suggestions. After all, he couldn’t explain the specifics. Thinking about it, Jiang Ling simply found an emotional community and posted a question for the first time.

[What to do when your boyfriend is too possessive?]

The community had high traffic, and within minutes, several replies popped up.

[Having a possessive boyfriend is not bad; it shows love, right?]

[I suspect the OP is just showing off; I wish my partner were a bit more possessive.]

“…”

Jiang Ling felt they might not understand the extent of possessiveness, so he explained a bit more discreetly.

[But since I met him, everyone around me has slowly disappeared, and he doesn’t allow me any freedom.]

That statement hit like a bolt from the blue, leaving netizens unsure how to respond.

[Is that confinement? You should report it to the police.]

[Is the disappearance you mentioned the one I’m thinking of?] a netizen asked, a bit scared.

[Is it true that possessiveness is a good thing?] someone commented. [Isn’t that just from reading too many novels? In real life, if I encounter someone like that, I’d run away immediately.]

Jiang Ling furrowed his brow, thinking it hadn’t reached that level yet. Although Chu Wenyu wanted him to gradually be in an environment where it was just the two of them, physically disappearing out of thin air was impossible. As for reporting to the police, there probably weren’t any officers willing to handle such a case.

[Not that exaggerated, but I am genuinely troubled right now,] Jiang Ling typed.

[Why didn’t you say so earlier? Almost scared me to death. Have you tried communicating with him and changing your boyfriend’s extreme personality?] another netizen suggested.

Jiang Ling thought about it, feeling more helpless. Didn’t he, in the beginning, slowly propose the idea of giving each other personal space to Chu Wenyu? The result? Even though he agreed verbally and seemed harmless, the guy solved it behind his back without him knowing.

[It’s probably hard to change,] he admitted reluctantly. Chu Wenyu’s role as the villain did have reasons.

[In that case, there’s not much you can do. For your safety, maybe it’s better to stop tormenting each other and just break up. There are plenty of fish in the sea.]

[We always advise breaking up in such situations. We’re really worried that the next time we hear from you, it might involve a criminal case.]

Annoyed, Jiang Ling closed the webpage, ran his hand through his hair, confirming that these people were just giving bad advice.

In the current situation, suggesting a breakup might lead to a criminal case, right?

Thinking about the moments he spent with Chu Wenyu, Jiang Ling felt that the guy’s charming qualities outweighed his flaws. He couldn’t let go.

This situation seemed unsolvable. Since he was determined to nurture this relationship, he could only gradually forgive the things the villain did and be honest about the future.

Jiang Ling took off his device, left the room, worried from the moment he stepped out that Chu Wenyu might be waiting. And indeed, as soon as he opened the door, he saw that smooth black hair on the wheelchair.

Wanting to brush off the morning’s events, Jiang Ling approached, saying, “I just had a two-hour match. I feel a bit tired.”

He intended to pour a glass of water, but as he walked to Chu Wenyu, he noticed the guy was looking down.

Something felt off. Jiang Ling squatted down, gently lifting Chu Wenyu’s chin to see his expression clearly. When Chu Wenyu raised his head, their eyes met, revealing red eyes filled with bloodshot veins.

He bit his lip, unsure of what to say. Clearly, Chu Wenyu noticed something off about him today. Seeing tears in Chu Wenyu’s eyes left Jiang Ling at a loss.

Staring at Chu Wenyu for a moment, Jiang Ling wiped the corner of his eyes for him, standing up and saying softly, “Let’s talk.”

In the time Jiang Ling took to speak, Chu Wenyu found it unbearable. He didn’t know why the other suddenly acted like this, but it was clear; he was about to say something important.

“Your Majesty, I’ve known for a long time that you installed surveillance in my room,” Jiang Ling calmly revealed.

Chu Wenyu looked at him abruptly, feeling his heart race. From Jiang Ling’s tone, it seemed like this was just the beginning of something.

But how did the other party find out in the first place?

“At that time, I wasn’t really angry. After all, my identity is a hostage, and His Majesty’s concern is normal,” Jiang Ling said with a smile, glancing at him.

Chu Wenyu nervously tugged at the hem of Jiang Ling’s clothes, opened his mouth in an attempt to explain, “I didn’t doubt you… I just…”

He couldn’t continue his explanation. Deep down, he admitted that when Jiang Ling first arrived at Burke Star, he did have suspicions about what the other might do.

“It’s okay, I can understand that situation,” Jiang Ling reassured, giving his hand a comforting pat, trying to ease the tension.

At this moment, Chu Wenyu also began to doubt. If he hadn’t fallen for Jiang Ling, things wouldn’t have turned out like this. Perhaps this relationship was a mistake?

“But why did you lie to me about Princess Anna leaving on her own? And why did you go to such lengths to send Anji back to Charles and prevent me from contacting other therapists?”

“You clearly know I don’t like it,” Jiang Ling said firmly, fixing his gaze on him.

Chu Wenyu’s heart pounded, lips almost bitten raw. Sweat formed on his forehead as he wondered how Jiang Ling knew about Anna’s situation.

“She said she liked you, and I couldn’t accept it. Is that not allowed?” Chu Wenyu confessed bluntly, his eyes revealing a mix of unrest and stubbornness.

Trying to compose himself, Chu Wenyu realized that at this point, Jiang Ling only knew so much, and there was room to maneuver.

“If you had told me, I would have naturally refused. There was no need to lie to me,” Jiang Ling sighed.

Seeing Jiang Ling’s softened tone, Chu Wenyu seized the opportunity to speak, his voice slightly hoarse, “Can you understand my feelings? I’m just uneasy. I like you so much, I can’t be without you.”

Resting his head on Jiang Ling’s lap, he continued in a sullen tone, “I’ve lost all my regal dignity in front of you. Would it have made you happier if I had stayed that way?”

For Jiang Ling, these words were lethal. Almost immediately, his heart felt like it had been pricked by a needle, and his nose tingled with a hint of bitterness.

He didn’t like seeing Chu Wenyu, the proud Alpha, in such a state. It was hard for him to remain stern towards such a vulnerable villain.

Unable to bear it, Jiang Ling closed his eyes, gently running his fingers through Chu Wenyu’s soft hair, finally stating, “I don’t want to hear about this again in the future. You have to trust me.”

Chu Wenyu rubbed against the Alpha’s thigh, murmuring, “I won’t do that again. Please don’t be angry.”

Having laid everything bare, Jiang Ling believed things would gradually improve. So, he forgave once more.

He gently rubbed Chu Wenyu’s cheek, a hint of pity in his voice, “Your Majesty, there’s no need to be uneasy. In my heart, no one can compare to you.”

Chu Wenyu nodded, but the uneasiness in his heart persisted. Sooner or later, he would uncover how Jiang Ling learned about Anna’s situation.

Chu Wenyu thought it might be a guard leaking information, not considering that Jiang Ling and Anna had exchanged contact information.

Feeling deceived, Jiang Ling wasn’t entirely without resentment. To ensure the villain truly kept his promises, Jiang Ling suggested they sleep in separate rooms for a while.

Chu Wenyu’s hatred for the person leaking secrets intensified, and he worried that if not exposed, even Zheng Ziang’s matters might be revealed.

With these thoughts, Chu Wenyu’s gaze became more serious. If Jiang Ling were to discover this, he would definitely not be able to forgive him so easily.

Although he was very dissatisfied with Jiang Ling’s demands, Chu Wenyu didn’t dare to provoke him so he reluctantly agreed.
