VFMESR Chapter 49

Due to their recent tumble on the beach, both of them looked pretty messy, like two peas in a pod.

Jiang Ling’s hair clung together, damp from the beach, and he combed it all back behind his head. Despite the slightly ambiguous behavior just now, he felt a little embarrassed, yet he appeared particularly composed.

After carrying Chu Wenyu back to the wheelchair, he placed him gently on it.

“Your Majesty, please head back to your room and change first,” Jiang Ling calmly suggested. Their appearances weren’t suitable for a joint appearance, even a fool would raise suspicions. Plus, Jiang Ling had a personal motive – leaving some space for Anna to communicate with him without any interference.

“What are you afraid of? With me here, no one dares to gossip,” Chu Wenyu said sternly. His complexion, usually fair, shone even more brightly now due to the water clinging to him.

Staring at Jiang Ling, he began to look displeased, perhaps still nursing a bit of resentment from being rejected earlier.

“Your Majesty, this is not appropriate,” Jiang Ling firmly insisted. He was about to leave. He wasn’t afraid of any gossip, but he didn’t want Chu Wenyu to be criticized in the shadows for such matters.

“Fine, you catch up then,” Chu Wenyu hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly agreed. He pushed the wheelchair towards the room that had already been prepared next to the banquet, leaving Jiang Ling with a fragile silhouette.

After a deep glance, Jiang Ling walked in a different direction, guessing that Anna might be among the banquet guests. So, he wiped his face and headed towards the periphery of the banquet, searching for Anna’s figure, unnoticed by the crowd.

Sure enough, not far away, Jiang Ling spotted the figure he was looking for, seemingly searching for him as well. His expression wasn’t entirely natural, having gone through the ordeal of an unwanted kiss; his opinion of Anna wasn’t exactly positive. As he contemplated how to approach without attracting attention, Anna noticed him.

After confirming that there was no one beside Jiang Ling, Anna quietly approached, and the two met behind the shade of the trees.

Eldest Princess, upon finding Anna, questioned her about the strange words Chu Wenyu had asked. Anna had anticipated Chu Wenyu’s dissatisfaction and wasn’t bothered by it. However, she felt the intense scrutiny from Eldest Princess, making it challenging to divert her attention to find Jiang Ling.

Earlier, when Wilson informed her that everything was ready, Anna hadn’t spotted Jiang Ling and grew a bit anxious. However, she still followed their agreement and set off the fireworks. Fortunately, the other party still remembered the plan.

“Earlier, I was too impulsive. Can you forgive me?” Anna noticed Jiang Ling’s obvious displeasure and swiftly apologized.

“Never mind. What’s Princess Anna’s plan, anyway?” Jiang Ling shifted the conversation.

“You’ll find out soon. Stay in the room prepared for you. During the chaos of the banquet, my guards will escort you out,” Anna replied briefly, not having the time to explain the full plan.

However, she observed Jiang Ling a bit more, realizing that, in contrast, she was more concerned about what had happened to him.

“Before that, you have some time to change your clothes. But come to think of it, what were you doing that got you into such a state?” Princess Anna asked thoughtfully.

“It’s a long story. I’ll go change first. Thank you for your assistance today, and I’ll make sure to repay it in the future,” Jiang Ling replied, not wanting to divulge more information. He then headed back to his room through the path.

The guests’ rooms had been arranged early, and as Jiang Ling walked towards his assigned room, he couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable with his damp clothes.

Upon reaching the door, he noticed the floor wasn’t spotless, suggesting someone had entered. Jiang Ling had a rough idea of who it might be, furrowing his brows but still pushing the door open.

Chu Wenyu was sitting in the wheelchair, still wearing the wet clothes, supporting his chin as he waited.

Surprised by the sound of the door opening, he turned his head with joy, locking eyes with Jiang Ling.

Closing the door, Jiang Ling inquired, “Your Majesty, why haven’t you changed yet? You might catch a cold.”

As he spoke, he found spare clothes from the wardrobe and grabbed a towel, preparing to head to the bathroom for a change.

Noticing something off, Chu Wenyu intercepted Jiang Ling, reaching around his waist and frowning, “I want you to help me change. I’m not comfortable doing it myself.”

With that, he gestured toward the clothes brought over by the waiter.

Chu Wenyu’s eyes, glistening, were fixed on Alpha. His hands started fidgeting restlessly.

Jiang Ling grabbed his hands, his mind a chaotic mess, unsure of what to say. Chu Wenyu, however, interpreted it as a sign of closeness, allowing Jiang Ling to hold his hands and leaning his face against Jiang Ling’s.

“I’ve checked. Apart from some issues, the bathroom is quite spacious,” Chu Wenyu bluntly stated, a hint of shyness coloring his expression.

Sighing inwardly, Jiang Ling broke free from Chu Wenyu’s grip, taking a step back.

“Your Majesty, this is someone else’s territory. It’s not appropriate,” he could only come up with this reason.

Thinking Jiang Ling was hesitant, Chu Wenyu decisively declared, “I’ll buy this place tomorrow. Problem solved.”

Helplessly, Jiang Ling spoke, “Your Majesty, I’m a bit tired today. Could you let me rest for a while?”

With that, he took his clothes into the bathroom. He knew Chu Wenyu well; changing clothes wasn’t the main issue, but if he got involved, it would likely lead to complications that couldn’t be easily resolved.

Chu Wenyu stood still, watching his hand being brushed away, feeling a bit dazed. He finally understood that Alpha was irritated by his closeness. They usually maintained restraint, but the more he thought about it, the more frustrated he became. Cold-faced, Chu Wenyu paced back and forth in the living room with his wheelchair, a heavy feeling lingering in his chest.

Suddenly struck by an idea, Chu Wenyu mercilessly dialed the room service number on the room’s phone to call the waiter, the same person who had delivered his clothes earlier. No matter what, he was determined to provoke Jiang Ling today, as he couldn’t tolerate the resistance to his closeness.

Moreover, Alpha had been particularly excessive today, even having physical contact with Anna.

Following the previous pattern, Chu Wenyu planned to repeat the same act, making Jiang Ling feel uneasy.

So, when Jiang Ling came out from the bathroom in his changed clothes, he found the room door partly open. Standing at the entrance was a tall and decent-looking male servant, shyly peering inside.

His gaze was fixed on Chu Wenyu, who still hadn’t changed clothes, and appeared quite icy. Jiang Ling wasn’t sure what Chu Wenyu was up to, so he casually stood aside, drying his hair while observing the unfolding scene.

Noticing Jiang Ling’s presence, Chu Wenyu finally glanced at the servant, annoyed, and said, “Come in.”

The Eldest Princess’s hospitality was commendable; at least the servants were young and presentable. Understanding Chu Wenyu’s preferences as an Alpha, she specifically assigned young male Alphas to attend to him, knowing he disliked overly coquettish behavior.

The servant wasn’t foolish; how could he not sense the subtle atmosphere between the two?

He already knew the person in the wheelchair was their sovereign of Burke Star, but the other one was unfamiliar to him. However, at this moment, he was more frightened, afraid that he might know some secrets and be silenced.

“I told you to come over,” Chu Wenyu stared at the servant with disdain, his eyes filled with disgust.

Although he was addressing the servant, his peripheral vision remained fixed on Jiang Ling.

The servant shivered and promptly approached Chu Wenyu, speaking almost inaudibly, “What does Your Majesty command?”

“Did you bring the clothes for me just now?” Chu Wenyu inquired.

The servant nodded.

“In that case, you’ll do the honors of helping me change,” Chu Wenyu said with a stern expression, feeling a bit uneasy but also anticipating Jiang Ling’s reaction.

“Your… Your Majesty, I can’t…” The servant grew even more anxious. How could he dare to touch His Majesty, even though there was no need to be overly cautious?

“Are you defying my orders?” Chu Wenyu, not sensing any movement from Jiang Ling, intensified his tone.

Jiang Ling had long stopped drying his hair. It was the first time he felt his soul leaving his body due to anger, unable to remain calm.

The servant was indeed quite attractive, and involuntarily, Jiang Ling thought of Zheng Ziang. His fingers clenched tightly.

However, this time, Jiang Ling chose not to express his opinion.

He should have known; His Majesty had always been like this, favoring good looks. In an instant, his mind became clearer and more determined.

Your Majesty, originally, was I just an amusement for you?

Moreover, I have no standing to stop you now. I’m leaving, and can I really prevent you from seeking someone else you might prefer?

“Your Majesty, this is my room,” Jiang Ling calmly addressed Chu Wenyu.

Chu Wenyu thought Jiang Ling was finally reacting and snorted, “I’ll be wherever I want. Do you have the right to control me?”

Jiang Ling, awakened by his words, realized that Chu Wenyu was the monarch of Burke Star. He had no say in his territory.

He chose not to say more, “In that case, I will ask them to arrange another room. Your Majesty, do as you please.”

With that, he took the towel used for drying his wet hair and left without turning back.

Chu Wenyu didn’t expect the effect to backfire. His eyes turned red with anger and he sternly said, “Dare to go out and try.”

Was Jiang Ling now… willing to let others touch him?

Jiang Ling lowered his gaze, paused for a few seconds, and then walked straight out without a word.

Chu Wenyu wanted to say more, but he found himself speechless. His fingers involuntarily trembled, unable to stop.

The trembling servant nearby cautiously asked, “Y-Your Majesty, do you still need a change of clothes?”

Chu Wenyu’s red eyes swept towards the servant, and after a long pause, he finally spoke, “Get lost.”

The servant’s steps hesitated for a moment, provoking even more menacing words from Chu Wenyu, “I told you to get lost, don’t you understand? Do I need to break your legs for you to roll out?”

Terrified, the servant quickly left the room.

The damp clothes clung to Chu Wenyu’s body, and as they evaporated, waves of coolness penetrated his heart. He gazed blankly at the empty room, lying back with his hand hanging down, looking lost.

Soon, an urgent report echoed through the villa.

“Your Majesty, something’s wrong! Star Pirates are attacking.” A guard who burst into the room reported.

Chu Wenyu snapped back to reality, his expression gradually turning serious.

“You can’t control them?” he asked coldly.

The guard lowered his head in shame, “Your Majesty, there are too many of them. And the guards you brought are just a small team. Besides, who could have predicted such an event? That’s why I came to seek your guidance.”

“Worthless bunch.”

Chu Wenyu, with Alpha’s figure prioritized in his mind, urgently pushed his wheelchair, wanting to find that person, fearing that Jiang Ling might be harmed.

Perhaps in the chaos of concern, he forgot that Jiang Ling was skilled enough not to get hurt easily. He rushed to see Jiang Ling without blaming him for his earlier reactions.
