VFMESR Chapter 8

Jiang Ling’s initial burst of anger dissipated as he saw the dazed look in Chu Wenyu’s eyes. His rationality slowly returned. Jiang Ling seldom argued with others unless he felt really uncomfortable.

“Your Majesty, is this really the right way to handle things?” Jiang Ling’s voice was deep, as if he couldn’t feel the pain in his body at all.

He never wished to be a character in this transmigrated book, and he considered himself a honest person. So why should he suffer this unjustified disaster? And the one orchestrating all of this was the person right before his eyes.

However, at this moment, Chu Wenyu had no guards by his side. Seated in a wheelchair and dressed in casual attire, he seemed to have lost his usual domineering aura, appearing vulnerable and approachable. This somewhat tempered Jiang Ling’s anger.

Chu Wenyu thought that Jiang Ling was troubled by the maid, hence his unusual anger.

“I’ll deal with Maige,” Chu Wenyu said, his tone growing colder. He hadn’t expected Maige to use such underhanded methods. What he didn’t realize was that he was getting angrier than he thought. He initially intended to keep Maige for potential use, but he had changed his mind now. He wasn’t in a hurry to deal with this foreign prince before him, and therefore, Maige had become useless.

Giving Jiang Ling an explanation should calm down his anger.

Yet, Chu Wenyu’s gaze swept over Jiang Ling repeatedly. Jiang Ling’s youthful vigor exuded an air that many Omegas would secretly admire. This inexplicably reminded Chu Wenyu of the previous ministers’ requests for him to get closer to Omegas. A thought crossed his mind.

Ever since he pretended to be an Alpha, he had never had close contact with anyone to avoid revealing the truth. Jiang Ling was the first, and coincidentally, he found the scent of this Alpha quite appealing.

“Your Majesty, you know I’m not talking about this matter,” Jiang Ling replied, his brows furrowed. However, his tone had softened. After all, in his imagination, the villain should not react so calmly when someone broke into his palace.

Chu Wenyu naturally understood that Jiang Ling was referring to his recent behavior. However, he had always done as he pleased and didn’t feel the need to explain himself to Jiang Ling. He wanted to appear stern, but his true emotions prevented him from doing so.

However, watching Jiang Ling treat him like an enemy, while entirely reasonable, didn’t sit well with Chu Wenyu.

He snorted, naturally not revealing the truth to Jiang Ling. “What’s wrong, Prince Jiang Ling? Do you feel wronged? You should know that when you handed me that poisoned soup, I had the right to execute you.” Chu Wenyu shifted the blame for his scheming onto Jiang Ling, as if he didn’t know that Jiang Ling wasn’t at fault in this matter.

Jiang Ling was briefly stunned by this revelation, only realizing afterward that it was after that incident that Chu Wenyu had suddenly sent guards to watch over him. He had assumed that Chu Wenyu was trying to harm him.

“The soup was given to me by Maige,” Jiang Ling explained, but he sounded somewhat defeated. He had assumed without evidence that Maige and Chu Wenyu were conspiring together, so in a strict sense, it was his own fault. He had never thought that the maid had ill intentions toward Chu Wenyu, which explained her unusual behavior in recent days.

Chu Wenyu noticed Jiang Ling’s somewhat guilty expression, though he didn’t show it on his face. Deep down, there was a hint of satisfaction.

He went to great lengths to twist the truth, saying, “So, may I ask, Prince Jiang Ling, what’s the meaning behind your visit here to question me? Do you think I’ve done something wrong?”

Jiang Ling looked at the pale figure before him, still immersed in guilt. Despite this being the villain, he couldn’t help but feel relieved that the man hadn’t drank that bowl of soup.

“Jiang Ling will abide by Your Majesty’s decision,” he replied. Deep down, he still held biases against the villain. However, since he had burst in, the man had been earnestly answering his questions, and he didn’t quite match the cruel tyrant depicted in the book.

Chu Wenyu had discerned that Jiang Ling responded better to kindness than coercion, although he had no intention of going soft on him. After all, Jiang Ling was currently at his mercy. However, feeling in a good mood today, he was willing to be a bit more accommodating.

“Cough~”

Despite the villain’s strong mental fortitude, his body was quite frail. His attire was thin, and even stepping out of the bedroom for a moment had left him feeling chilly.

“I trust you, Prince Jiang Ling. I presume this is all the work of Maige, isn’t it? I’d like to retire to my bedroom; could you assist me?” The somewhat hoarse voice of Chu Wenyu came through, his gaze fixed on Jiang Ling.

Chu Wenyu had managed to overcome his initial sensitivity in recent days. During this special period, he had developed a fondness for Alpha’s touch, and besides, the other party couldn’t refuse him. What was the harm in that?

Jiang Ling also felt he should overcome his prejudice against the villain. Watching the man’s reddened face from coughing made him uncomfortable. Following Chu Wenyu’s instructions, he pushed him towards the bedroom.

Chu Wenyu had no intention of getting into bed himself, and Jiang Ling stood by, feeling conflicted. He didn’t want a repeat of what happened last time, but the villain wasn’t giving him a choice.

“Your Majesty, I’ll take my leave now.” If the villain intended to punish him for misunderstanding today’s events, he would accept the consequences.

“Prince Jiang Ling, are you suggesting I spend the night here?” Chu Wenyu raised an eyebrow, his expression still stern.

“Otherwise, should I call a maidservant to help? Jiang Ling can’t promise not to touch Your Majesty.” Jiang Ling spoke seriously, thinking it was the best way to deal with the tyrant.

Chu Wenyu couldn’t help but feel a bit irritated when he thought about how Jiang Ling still held a grudge over this matter.

“In that case, Prince Jiang Ling can decide,” Chu Wenyu said, folding his arms, his voice tinged with anger.

Jiang Ling had to figure out the intentions of this tyrant himself. After much thought, he mustered the courage to say, “I offended Your Majesty.”

He tentatively put his arms around Chu Wenyu’s waist, still somewhat stiff, but he hadn’t expected the notorious villain’s waist to be so slender that he could encircle it with one hand. Jiang Ling, who had never thought much of men, suddenly felt like he was taking advantage of someone. Of course, such thoughts only lingered for a few seconds before he dismissed them. If the tyrant knew what he was thinking, he’d probably turn him into cannon fodder immediately.

Not wanting Chu Wenyu to linger in his embrace for too long, Jiang Ling picked him up and placed him on the bed.

“Rest well, Your Majesty. Jiang Ling will take his leave,” Jiang Ling said, feeling somewhat uncomfortable for no apparent reason, and promptly decided to leave.

Chu Wenyu didn’t want him to go, though; he had already found a reasonable excuse to keep the other party here.

“What? Don’t you think you should compensate for your earlier offense?” Chu Wenyu asked calmly, a hint of malice flashing in his eyes.

Jiang Ling: “?”

“I still need someone to serve me, and Jiang Ling, you should be the one,” Chu Wenyu said, raising his chin, clearly intending to embarrass Jiang Ling.

For a prince, such a request was exceedingly bizarre and shameful.

Jiang Ling’s original guilt had vanished, and he felt like he was facing the uncertain villain described in the original book once again.
