The Youth Guarding the World [1]

When he opened his eyes again, Yin Minglu found himself curled up, lying in a small bedroom. The sky-blue curtains, tightly drawn, couldn’t prevent the sunlight from streaming in. Though the room was small, it was cluttered, with books piled everywhere.

The alarm clock displayed 6:30 in the morning. His intuition told him it was time for class. However, his body reminded him that he had probably slept for less than two hours, and he was in an extremely exhausted state. Continuing to rest would be the best choice.

Nevertheless, Yin Minglu got up. He tidied his backpack, absorbing the plot developments, and headed towards the living room.

The kitchen was filled with a delightful aroma, and a tall man, wearing an apron, was busy at work. “Could this be the original owner’s father?” Yin Minglu wondered.

Sure enough, the man soon approached, carrying a plate of folded omelet and a glass of milk. He said, “Hurry and have breakfast. After eating, go to school, and try not to be late today. Your homeroom teacher called me yesterday, mentioning that you were consistently late and leaving early last semester. Specifically, he instructed me to make sure you arrive on time today.”

Yin Minglu nodded as he filled his empty stomach with breakfast, simultaneously processing the information his digestive system relayed to him.

The young man in front of him was currently eating. His complexion was exceptionally fair, but there were faint dark circles under his eyes, revealing a hint of fatigue. The contrast between the dark and light was striking, making it clear at a glance that this child had definitely stayed up late last night.

Yin Baiquan furrowed his brow and asked, “Minglu, why do you have such heavy dark circles? Did you not sleep well yesterday and stayed up late playing games again?”

Yin Minglu’s eating paused for a moment, and his long eyelashes flickered a few times. He didn’t know how to explain. His hesitant behavior was seen by Yin Baiquan as an admission of guilt.

Immediately, Yin Baiquan expressed disappointment again, saying, “Why are you playing games again? Are they so entertaining that you’re willing to sacrifice precious sleep for them? You know, electronic games are addictive and can lead people astray. Playing too much not only has no benefits but will also harm yourself. You’re already in your sophomore year, and next year you’ll be a senior. Last semester, your class teacher, Mr. Wang, called me and said your grades have significantly declined compared to when you first entered school. He also mentioned that you are often late to class and sleep during lessons. Dad doesn’t want to scold you, nor does he want to constrain you with the goal of going to college. However, Minglu, you really need to reflect on yourself. Dad is quite disappointed in you.”

After a warm breakfast, the conversation between father and son ended on a somber note. This scene unfolded frequently after the original owner entered high school.

In reality, neither of them was entirely wrong.

However, since Yin Minglu had accepted the commission of the original owner, he intended to be more cautious, adhering to the original character’s personality and continuing to keep this secret.

The original owner still shared the same name with him and came from a not very affluent family. His parents divorced when he was young, and he followed his father. However, due to his father’s busy work schedule, he was tossed between two families like a ball, leading to a sensitive and self-deprecating personality. He was introverted, liked talking to flowers, plants, and animals.

Currently, he was a high school student. His grades were excellent at the beginning of the school year, but within a year, he gradually declined to a level in the middle to lower ranks of the grade. There was even room for further decline, causing his father Yin Baiquan to be disappointed. The conflict between father and son deepened.

Such conflicts were piled up due to misunderstandings.

Yin Baiquan believed that his son’s “decline” was a form of protest against the existence of the “new stepmother,” so he had deep misunderstandings about his son. In reality, he didn’t know that this was a world where “the greater the ability, the greater the responsibility.”

His son was a hero who guarded the city regardless of day or night. Every day and night, he brushed shoulders with danger and death. This was an identity that couldn’t be talked about, a secret that couldn’t be revealed.

It was a very special world where human survival entered a new era. Steel and concrete completely dominated the world. To get closer to the sun and breathe fresh air, human constructions became taller and denser, covering the sky like beehives.

However, this seemed to threaten the floating city suspended above the urban area. Unstable factors began to appear worldwide, and the magnetic field frequently became chaotic.

Even in the super affluent capital district, occurrences such as deviating traffic tracks and unexplainable supernatural phenomena were common. Riots could break out at any moment, disrupting the lives of citizens due to natural disasters or human-caused calamities. However, those in power continued to construct tall buildings, give public speeches, attempting to embellish the illusion of peace.

Riots became even more frequent, and people lived in constant fear.

It was at this time that exceptionally gifted “evolvers” began to appear worldwide, taking on the responsibility of safeguarding world peace.

The original owner was one of them.

He had sacrificed too much for this city, yet he remained consistently misunderstood by teachers, classmates, and even his father. Teachers thought of him as a poor-performing student with a careless attitude toward learning. Classmates saw him as a disruptive student who was always late, left early, and disrupted class order by sleeping during lessons. His father perceived him as a rebellious and fallen child, betraying the expectations placed upon him.

Even when death approached, he didn’t have time to write a farewell letter to tell everyone the truth. He hurriedly dropped the curtain on his life.

Apart from a father with tearful eyes, appearing as if he had aged ten years overnight, the original owner had no friends, no close classmates. Naturally, no one mourned his death. Little did they know that the young man lying dead in the ruins was the “superhero” who had saved them countless times from peril.

After watching the plot, Yin Minglu summoned the system and said, “Hmm, so what was the original owner’s wish? Is it world peace? Or is it to let the father finally know the truth, to make him proud of his child?”

The Milk Doll System replied, “The commission letter didn’t specify.” There were only a few tears on it, conveying a hint of subtle sadness, but without a single word. They had to interpret it themselves. However, the original owner passed away at the age of sixteen or seventeen, in the prime of youth, so the wish was likely simple and pure.

“The original owner was an extremely sensitive and delicate child. Perhaps deep down, he wanted to be acknowledged,” Yin Minglu pondered. “Let’s decide it this way, the mission for this world!”

The Milk Doll System was curious, “What is it?”

Yin Minglu smiled, “Naturally, it’s to be the little hero guarding the city. Accidentally becoming a savior but, oops, falling off the horse in front of the whole world.”

The Milk Doll System exclaimed loudly, “What!?”

“Why are you shouting so loud?” Yin Minglu extended his pinky, cleaned his ears, then checked the time. He exclaimed, “Alright, enough talk. I need to go to class. I may be a friendly teenage hero, but I still need to study well. Can’t be late for class.”

Even though he said that, things didn’t go as planned.

[Ding~ Strong distress signal detected 400 meters ahead. Evolver N, please proceed for rescue!]

Yin Minglu, who was about to swipe his bus card, paused upon hearing this. He hesitated for a moment. The working adults behind him impatiently urged, “Hey, little student, why are you standing still?”

“Yeah, hurry up, we’re all in a rush to get to work.”

“Is it because you’re card ran out of money?

I have some here, take it and swipe.” Another kind-hearted lady, thinking he stopped due to financial constraints, generously offered.

[Sensing rapid loss of life signs, left turn 500 meters ahead at the traffic light intersection. Evolver N, please proceed for rescue! Don’t hesitate, go quickly for the rescue!]

Yin Minglu no longer hesitated. Disregarding the astonished gazes around him, he pushed through the crowd and hurried forward. Soon, at the intersection, he spotted a van that seemed to be the source of the distress signal.

With excellent agility, he glimpsed a robust arm on the steering wheel through the car’s rearview mirror. Looking through the black-tinted rear window, he saw a girl with her mouth taped shut. Her face was extremely pale, and her arms were covered in bruises and needle marks. The rise and fall of her chest indicated her life was on the verge of danger.

Yin Minglu pressed the ’emergency call’ and ‘call for an ambulance’ buttons. Relying on his powerful physical abilities, he flipped over the roof of the car and forcibly halted the vehicle from a distance. A loud “bang” echoed as the driver, caught off guard by the roadblock, collided with the railing.

The surrounding crowd was startled, and even a person walking their dog held onto the barking canine in shock.

“What’s going on?! A car accident this early in the morning?”

Yin Minglu immediately raised his arm again, fiercely smashing the car window. Without waiting for the driver to react, he reached in and opened the car door from the inside.

Everyone watched in astonishment as, with the door opened, a bound girl rolled out. The young man caught her smoothly, and she fell backward into his arms.

The girl’s complexion was deathly pale, her body covered in horrifying marks, a truly shocking sight. At this moment, with closed eyes and no apparent breath, one couldn’t help but wonder if she had already stopped breathing.

Fortunately, the police and ambulance arrived promptly.

The barely conscious girl was helped onto the ambulance, and the onlookers handed the driver over to the police. When they turned around, they realized the entire street was crowded with people. However, the young man in the school uniform seemed to have disappeared into the crowd, leaving no trace.

“Why did that kid leave like that?”

“He truly did a good deed without leaving his name. Such a young age, yet so brave. It feels reassuring.”

“If the girl wakes up and doesn’t know who her savior was, it must be quite regrettable.”

Pedestrians continued their discussions.

Meanwhile, no matter how fast Yin Minglu’s pace was, he still failed to step into the classroom a second before the bell rang, which meant he was late again for the first class of the new semester.

Their homeroom teacher, Ms. Wang, was waiting for him at the door.

Upon his arrival, the woman in her forties, with fine lines around her eyes, looked at him with disappointment. “I called your father yesterday, hoping he would remind you to be a good child on the first day of the new semester and not be late again. But I didn’t expect that even your father couldn’t constrain you.”

Yin Minglu was at a loss for words. He lowered his head, and when he raised it again, his eyes were filled with meekness and innocence.

Meanwhile, during this conversation between the teacher and student, a video titled “Brave Young Man Rescues Kidnapped Girl in the Morning” was rapidly climbing the trending charts.
