VGAB Chapter 39

The feudal old-fashioned patriarch

Qi Han had just finished taking a shower, and his hair was still dripping as he walked out of the bathroom. He was dressed in a sports outfit that Su Wei had bought at a street market for sixty yuan a set, after some hard bargaining.

“The coffee shop where I work is currently hiring waiters,” Su Wei said as she pushed the takeout in front of Qi Han. Both of them couldn’t cook, so they relied on ordering food for their meals.

“Although the salary is a bit lower, it’s much safer than working at the construction site because the coffee shop has security cameras. I asked the manager, so how about you come to work with me at the coffee shop?”

Qi Han was drying his hair and his voice was chilly. “I’m fine with that, but I’ve never been a waiter before. What if I make a mistake and it affects you…”

Su Wei smiled and looked at his face, then assessed his sports outfit. Despite being street market clothes, they looked high-end on him.

“Don’t worry, as long as you don’t spill coffee on someone’s face, no one will dare to scold you.”

Perhaps, if they encountered a girl who was a bit infatuated, getting coffee spilled on her might be seen as a cool move!

Qi Han lowered his gaze and didn’t say more. After finishing breakfast, he followed her to the coffee shop for the interview.

Qi Han’s good looks caught the attention of the coffee shop owner, who decided to hire him on the spot. As it turned out, the owner’s intuition was correct. Adding a handsome male waiter to the staff visibly improved the business of the shop.

After a popular video streamer visited the coffee shop, it suddenly became a trending topic.

Qi Rui also noticed it. He rubbed his eyes and played the video again. The appearance of the waiter was strikingly similar to his proud and arrogant third uncle.

Could it be that his eldest uncle couldn’t tolerate his third uncle’s control over the company any longer, so he expelled him from the Qi family? But it seemed rather pitiful for his third uncle to have fallen so far, going from a member of the Qi family to a dishwasher and waiter.

Even worse than him.

Qi Rui closed Weibo and found Qi Han’s number in his contacts, but he couldn’t get through.

Upon hearing this news, Qi Heng immediately called for Wang Lin and got straight to the point, saying, “Remove the trending topic and buy me a ticket to B City.”

“But the company still needs you for the time being…” Wang Lin hesitated, and Qi Heng gave her a cold look. “There are so many people in the company. If I leave and the company can’t function, what use are they?”

The next day, Qi Heng flew to B City with a few bodyguards.

After working for a few days, Qi Han received his first month’s salary.

He received a total of 2,500 yuan, which was initially agreed at 2,200 yuan. The shop owner said that because of him, the coffee shop had attracted so many customers, so they added an extra 300 yuan as a bonus for him.

Hao had his salary and thought for a while, deciding to find an opportunity to ask Su Wei what she liked. After all, he was currently being provided with food and shelter by Su Wei, and he should find a chance to thank her.

Su Wei changed out of her work uniform and saw Han sitting in a chair, furrowing his brows in thought. She was about to go over and invite him to go home, but the cashier girl stopped her.

“Wei Wei, just now, two girls were chatting with your boyfriend again,” the cashier girl whispered mysteriously in her ear. “I overheard them, and it seems like they were asking for your boyfriend’s WeChat contact. One of the girls even pretended to fall into his arms.”

“Be careful not to lose your boyfriend to others; nowadays, girls don’t care if someone has a girlfriend or not.”

“I know, thanks for the warning.”

Su Wei furrowed her brow, ignoring her discomfort. She had no reason to be upset. Although she and Han publicly claimed to be a couple, she could tell that Han was grateful to her, but there was no romantic involvement between them. However, she seemed to have some feelings…

Su Wei lowered her gaze. Now that Han had received his salary and had some money, it might be a good time to find an opportunity for him to move out. Living together as a man and a woman might not be appropriate.

“The young master is living with this girl now. They come and go together every day, and he even works as a waiter for her,” the driver of the car explained. “He’s doing things he would never have done in the past because of this girl.”

“He’s onto us,” Qi Heng opened his eyes. “Drive closer.”

“Ah?” The driver was briefly surprised but then realized the situation. He pressed the gas pedal to catch up.

Qi Han noticed the car following them for a while now. They sped up, and the two cars behind them also accelerated.

Thinking about his recent kidnapping experience, Qi Han immediately concluded that it was the same group of people coming after him again. So, when he saw them suddenly accelerate in his peripheral vision, he didn’t hesitate. He grabbed Su Wei’s wrist and led her into a nearby alley.

“Master, he got away!”

The bodyguards noticed his intentions and hurriedly pulled over to chase.

“Let it go, come back,” Qi Heng stopped them. “No need to chase. They will have to go to the coffee shop for work tomorrow. Let’s wait for them there.”

After running a distance,  Qi Han let go of Su Wei’s hand when he saw there were no pursuers behind them. He stopped to catch his breath.

“Why did you suddenly pull me and run?” Su Wei’s cheeks were a bit flushed, perhaps due to the intense sprint.

“I noticed someone was following us!” Qi Han said, still catching his breath. He analyzed seriously, “I think they are the same people who kidnapped me before.”

“What should we do?” Su Wei was getting anxious and couldn’t help but grab his sleeve.

“We should call the police,” Su Wei suggested.

“We can’t call the police!” Qi Han instinctively refused. He knew that the person behind this wouldn’t be resolved by calling the police.

“I’ll find another place to live tomorrow. They are after me. If you don’t live with me, you should be safe.”

Su Wei opened her mouth, but she couldn’t find a reason to persuade him to stay. After all, this was what she had considered earlier, wasn’t it? But even with that thought, disappointment welled up in her heart.

“I can’t go to the coffee shop anymore, I’ll find another job,” Qi Han said, reaching into his pocket to give Su Wei some of his wages, but he found it empty.

“W-what’s wrong?” Su Wei asked in confusion.

“My wages are gone!” Qi Han was somewhat perplexed, and he regretted, “It must have slipped out of my pocket when we were running just now!”

“Then let’s go back and look for it,” Su Wei decided quickly. “Fewer people are walking on this side, so maybe nobody has picked it up yet.”

“I’ll go back and look,” Qi Han stopped her, “in case those people are still around, I can hide better alone.”

Despite his physical weakness, as a tall man, he could run faster than Su Wei wearing high heels.

“Be careful then,” Su Wei knew her shoes were not suitable for running, so she didn’t insist further.

Qi Han turned and retraced their steps, reaching the roadside. The car that had been following them had vanished from sight. He continued to search for the envelope containing his wages but found no trace of it.

It seemed someone had picked it up. Qi Han felt a bit frustrated. Without that money, how could he afford to move out?

Well, he had no choice but to wait for the next month’s salary.

However, to his surprise, when he arrived at the coffee shop the next day, he received some unwelcome news.

The shop owner had sold the coffee shop.

“I’ve actually been wanting to sell this place for a while, but I couldn’t find a suitable buyer,” the owner explained. In reality, due to its unfavorable location, many people had given up on it.

The owner grinned broadly, “Qi Han, you’ve been a lucky charm for our shop. Since you joined us, not only did business improve, but you also managed to attract a buyer who purchased the shop for a high price.”

Qi Han briefly wondered if someone behind the scenes had orchestrated the purchase of the shop to target him. However, it seemed unlikely that anyone would go to the trouble of spending tens of thousands to buy a shop with such a poor location just to abduct someone as financially modest as him.

Qi Heng had switched to another car and parked it across the street from the coffee shop. He watched as the former owner of the shop came out.

“Move the car to the other side.”

The driver circled and parked the car in front of the coffee shop. The cashier girl, who had been sitting at the counter daydreaming, suddenly shouted, “Su Wei, come and see this, there’s a Rolls-Royce parked outside.”

Su Wei curiously peeked out, “That must cost a fortune, right?”

“I searched the model and it seems to be over nine million,” the cashier girl said with extreme envy. “The world of the wealthy, if it were me, I definitely wouldn’t be willing to spend so much money on a car.”

Su Wei suddenly felt a sour taste in her mouth from the plain water she was sipping. “I wouldn’t either.”

“I’ll buy one,” Qi Han suddenly spoke up.

“Don’t kid around,” the cashier girl laughed. “That car costs over nine million, and with your outfit, you don’t even have 9,000, right?”

Su Wei fell silent. In truth, she had less than a hundred, and she and Qi Han were living a frugal life, with no money left for nicer clothes.

Qi Han stopped smiling and gave Su Wei a faint look. “If you like it, I’ll get it for you in the future.”

He considered it a token of gratitude for her sheltering him during this period.

His expression was very sincere, and Su Wei’s face blushed slightly, suddenly feeling a touch of sweetness in her heart.

“Tsk tsk tsk, Su Wei, your boyfriend really knows how to sweet-talk,” teased the cashier girl.

The glass door was pushed open by two men in black suits, immediately capturing the attention of the three.

Qi Han’s expression changed in an instant because he recognized one of them as the person who had kidnapped him the last time.

“Could it be the new boss?” the cashier girl’s expression suddenly became excited.

Su Wei noticed something was wrong with Qi Han and approached him slightly, whispering, “What’s wrong with you?”

Qi Han lowered his voice, “The one on the left, he was among the ones who kidnapped me that day.”

Qi Han kept a stern face and watched the entrance attentively. There was a luxury car they had discussed before parked outside, and a man in a black suit stood next to it. He went to the rear door and opened it, then respectfully helped a man in a silver-gray suit with an extraordinary presence to step out.

Qi Han felt that the man looked familiar, and when the man turned his head, a sudden image flashed through Qi Han’s mind, causing him a sharp headache.

The headache came on suddenly. Qi Han instinctively clutched his head, took two steps back, and bumped into a table.

“Qi Han, what’s wrong with you?” Su Wei was a bit nervous as she rushed forward to support him.

However, the two burly men in black suits at the door were even more excited when they saw this scene.

“Third Master!”

“Third Master, what’s wrong with you?”

Su Wei was forcefully pushed to the side by the two men, and she looked very puzzled as the suspected kidnappers carefully helped Qi Han back to his seat.

“What’s wrong with him?”

Despite the stern and icy tone of the voice, Qi Han suddenly felt his headache easing a bit.

Qi Han felt the two people supporting him immediately straighten their bodies.

“Master, Third Master seems to have a headache.”

“A headache?” The voice sounded puzzled for a moment. “Could it be he broke his head? What if he becomes dull and can’t manage the company!”

Qi Han’s headache was getting better, and he felt that the voice was very familiar. He lifted his head to look in the direction of the voice.

The person standing in the backlight at the entrance had a tall and slender figure, cold eyes, and a strikingly handsome face with no expression.

“What’s the matter, can’t even remember how to address your elder brother after losing your memory?”

To him, that person’s gaze appeared utterly ordinary, but Qi Han felt an overwhelmingly dominant pressure that compelled him to involuntarily address him as “elder brother.”

After calling him “elder brother,” Qi Han felt an uncontrollable surge of joy from the depths of his heart. It seemed that his elder brother had been truly important to him if he came looking for him in person.

Qi Heng noticed that Qi Han had been smiling foolishly at him since losing his memory. He furrowed his brow and instructed the nearest bodyguard, “Take him to the car.”

They needed to hurry to the clinic just in case Qi Han’s free labor turned foolish due to his unauthorized alteration of the cause of Qi Han’s amnesia.
