VGAB Chapter 57

The legendary immortal [Modern]

Qi Heng spent a night in Qin Luo’s rented house, and the next morning, he seized Qin Luo’s computer. He started to gain an initial understanding of the history of this world through the internet.

By now, over a thousand years had passed since the Jin Dynasty, and the Jin nation had been thoroughly defeated two hundred years after Qi Shao’s death.

Qin Luo, with unwavering dedication, bought a bag of fruits to offer as a filial gesture to his great-uncle. However, as soon as he entered the door, he caught sight of the content on the Baidu Baike displayed on the computer screen, sending a shiver down his spine.

The actions of those late Jin Dynasty individuals were far from commendable. After Qi Heng’s month-long exploration of this world’s history, he was thoroughly incensed.

Qin Luo recalled the temper of his great-uncle, as described by his grandfather. He couldn’t help but worry, wondering if his great-uncle would be so furious as to go to the Jin Dynasty imperial tomb to vent his frustration.

But he understood that in this world, if one were to enter an imperial tomb and defile it, they would likely be arrested as criminals for damaging historical relics.

“Why are you standing at the door?” Qi Heng’s voice was icy.

“Great-uncle, please calm down!” Qin Luo placed the fruits on the table, his gaze fixed on his nearly unusable mouse.

He had no money left recently! Please don’t let him break it!

Maybe we should go to the imperial tomb to vent our frustration.

Qin Luo anxiously watched his mouse, and as he wished, Qi Heng released it, his gaze gently passing over the bag of fruits.

Small in size and not very appealing, probably a bit sour. Qi Heng seemed a bit disgusted.

“I’m going out for a bit,” Qi Heng stood up confidently, feeling uncomfortable sharing the same rented house with Qin Luo; he hadn’t endured such humiliation before.

Although Qin Luo had slept on the sofa last night, he had been playing games in the room.

“Huh?” Qin Luo was puzzled. “Great uncle, where are you going?”

“To make money,” Qi Heng looked at him with a somewhat disappointed gaze. “You’ve been in this world for so long, and you’re still living in this small rental house.”

Qin Luo: “…” It seems like I’ve been called useless by my great-uncle, but I have no evidence.

Qi Heng headed towards the door, and Qin Luo unintentionally noticed his attire. His eyes twitched, and he hurriedly said, “Great-uncle, wait… Are you going out like this?”

Qi Heng looked at him expressionlessly, and Qin Luo swallowed nervously. “Dressing like that outside might attract attention. After all, people don’t wear these clothes anymore.”

Qin Luo paused, sneaking a glance at Qi Heng. Seeing no anger in his eyes, he continued, “I bought a set of sportswear a few days ago, and I haven’t worn it yet. Would you like to change into it, Great uncle?”

“No need,” Qi Heng’s voice remained steady.

In the blink of an eye, Qin Luo saw him transform into a different image, wearing a suit and leather shoes. With his distinguished and aloof demeanor, he looked like a member of the elite upper class.

“Great uncle,” Qin Luo quickly approached, using his hand to touch Qi Heng’s clothes. “How did you do this?”

His eyes revealed eagerness, waiting for Qi Heng to speak and teach him.

“A bit of illusion magic,” Qi Heng casually glanced at him. “If you want to learn, I can teach you.”

Since Qin Luo had come this far, it meant he had some innate talent. Combined with his luck in this world, he might even be able to ascend to become an immortal.

“Really?” Qin Luo was pleasantly surprised.

Qi Heng raised his hand and touched his forehead. Qin Luo was momentarily puzzled, not understanding what he was doing. But then, he suddenly felt some new knowledge appearing in his mind.

“You can practice on your own,” Qi Heng withdrew his hand. “I’ll be back in the evening.”

Qin Luo obediently nodded. Once Qi Heng left, he quickly closed the door and started practicing based on the knowledge in his mind.

His talent was decent, and after a couple of hours of experimentation, he could transform himself into objects in the room.

However, his application was not yet very proficient. Just as he was diligently practicing, the doorbell rang.

“Delivery.”

Qin Luo’s eyes lit up. Could it be that his order of spiritual talisman paper had arrived? He quickly walked to the door and pulled it open.

The delivery guy, dressed in an orange-red uniform, peered into the room. “Strange, the door’s open, but no one’s coming out.”

“I’m here,” Qin Luo reached out to take the delivery but forgot about his current appearance. In the eyes of the delivery guy, he looked like a mop standing in front of the door.

“Seems like you’ve hung the mop!” the delivery guy called into the room, simultaneously attaching the delivery box to the mop and using his phone to sign for the delivery.

It took Qin Luo a while to realize that he had an illusion on himself. That’s why the delivery guy couldn’t see him. He tried to revert to his original form but found that his illusion had malfunctioned.

Qin Luo grew anxious and, not giving up, attempted several times, but he still appeared as a mobile mop. Moreover, due to the excessive movements, the delivery box stuck to him fell outside the door.

Qin Luo had no choice but to step out to try and retrieve the delivery. To onlookers, it looked like a mop slowly tilting towards the ground.

Footsteps approached from the stairs, making Qin Luo panic. He stiffened and ended up falling down the stairs.

“Hey, why is the mop on the ground?” The passing landlord picked up the mop and leaned it against the wall. Then, he peered into the room and shook his head. “No one’s at home, yet the door’s wide open. These young folks don’t understand the dangers outside.”

With so many thieves around nowadays, people don’t even bother to lock their doors when they go out. How careless can they be?

The landlord thought to himself as he closed the door and shook his head before heading back upstairs.

Meanwhile, Qin Luo, transformed into a mop, was left outside without his keys. He felt utterly hopeless.

But what was even more despairing was when the tenant from the adjacent room returned – a girl carrying a milk tea in her left hand and takeout in her right.

Whether it was due to the high heels or some other reason, that girl stumbled at the staircase. Fortunately, the takeout was packaged, but the milk tea was a different story – it spilled all over the floor.

She got up from the ground, picked up the takeout, and looked at the spilled milk tea, furrowing her brows. “Oh no.”

She had intended to go back to get a mop to clean it up but happened to notice a brand-new mop on the wall.

“Did the landlord leave this here?” She mumbled to herself. Qin Luo sensed her gaze falling on him and felt it wasn’t good. To his surprise, the girl actually walked over to him and attempted to pick him up to clean the floor.

Qin Luo: Holy cow! Great uncle, save me! I don’t want to be used for cleaning!

Perhaps the heavens heard Qin Luo’s cries, and the girl shook her head and gave up. “Never mind, I shouldn’t use other people’s things. I’ll go to my room to get a mop.”

She took out her keys, quickly unlocked her door, and retrieved a mop, cleaning the staircase thoroughly.

In the evening, much to Qin Luo’s eager anticipation, his great-uncle finally returned.

Qin Luo was nearly in tears; he was saved!

“Great uncle! Please save me; I can’t change back.”

Qi Heng halted in his tracks, lifted his hand slightly, and dispelled the illusion on Qin Luo’s form.

“You’re quite slow,” Qi Heng said with some disdain as he tossed a check to him.

Qin Luo hurriedly caught it and, upon seeing the number of zeros on it, he was dumbfounded. He raised his hand and rubbed his eyes, then carefully counted the zeros.

“One… ten… hundred… thousand… million… ten million… hundred million…”

Qin Luo’s eyes widened, and the hand holding the check was trembling. “A… a million? Great-uncle, did you rob a bank?”

Qi Heng cast a cool glance at him. “Pathetic.” He had no qualms about spending millions casually; he once purchased a game company for several million.

“Great-uncle, can you please tell your great-grandnephew how you got this money?” Qin Luo asked.

“I did a little something in your name,” Qi Heng mentioned his impersonation with an unwavering gaze. “Why haven’t you opened the door yet?”

At the mention of this, Qin Luo suddenly appeared guilty.

“When I came out earlier, I forgot to bring the key. I’m going up to find the landlord and get a spare key.”

Qi Heng considered Qin Luo’s intelligence to be a cause for concern and sighed deeply. “No need.”

With those words, he stepped toward the door, and with a swift movement, he passed through the doorway and entered the room.

Qin Luo: “…”

Now he understood how his great-uncle managed to enter the room when he wasn’t around yesterday.

Qi Heng turned the doorknob, and then settled back on the couch. Qin Luo watched as he mysteriously produced a cup of tea.

“Tomorrow, we’re going to buy a house,” Qi Heng suddenly spoke up. Qin Luo looked at the amount on the check in his hand. With this much money, he could easily purchase a well-furnished three-bedroom apartment.

Qin Luo couldn’t help but think about how he had been here for so long and felt helpless. He had resorted to renting and doing odd jobs to pay rent. In comparison, he truly was a pitiful time traveler.

Not long after he sat down, another group of people hurriedly arrived.

“Excuse me, is this the home of Master Qin?”

Qin Luo instinctively looked at Qi Heng, thinking it was someone looking for him. However, Qi Heng turned and entered the master bedroom.

“Master Qin, Master Qin?” came several loud calls from outside the door. “Have you returned?”

Uncertain about what to do, Qin Luo cracked the door open just a little. However, outside, there weren’t just a few people as he had imagined, but a group of about a dozen.

Each of them held a gift in their hands.

“Hello, Master Qin,” someone smiled and said to Qin Luo, “These are gifts we’re presenting to you. Please accept them.”

Perplexed, Qin Luo stepped aside and allowed these people to place the gifts on the coffee table.

However, to his surprise, Qin Luo noticed that one of the gifts had a check placed in it, without any attempt to hide it.

He discreetly counted the digits – it was a seven-figure sum.

The gift bearers quickly placed their items and hurriedly departed, not daring to stay for even a moment longer.

Qin Luo grew even more curious about what had happened to them. Once they were all gone, he couldn’t wait any longer and knocked on the bedroom door.

Qi Heng raised his hand to open the bedroom door, and Qin Luo rushed in. “Great uncle, what did you do? They brought so many gifts!”

“I took on your appearance and helped them with some ghost-catching and luck-changing,” Qi Heng replied nonchalantly.

“Ghost-catching?” Qin Luo was skeptical. He had been dealing with many malevolent spirits during his time here, but no one ever sent him gifts for it.

But what surprised Qin Luo even more was that it didn’t stop there. Overnight, another batch of wealthy businessmen arrived, each holding checks and seeking his assistance.

They all referred to him as “Master Qin,” praising his profound abilities to reveal hidden malevolent entities.

Qin Luo had a growing sense that something was amiss.

As a result, after he had finally managed to send the people away, a short while later, a young and handsome gentleman arrived, enthusiastically expressing his desire to take him out for a movie.

Qin Luo: “…”

What on earth did Great-uncle do while impersonating him? In just one day, he had even attracted admirers!
