VGAB Chapter 64

Modern - The Legendary Immortal

Hu Ling grumbled and left the Special Management Bureau. At five in the afternoon, a package arrived in Qin Luo’s hands.

Qin Luo opened the package, and indeed, it was sent by that unknown kind-hearted girl. His ID card and household registration were all inside.

Dragon Lord appeared behind Qin Luo like a ghost. Seeing that there was only Qin Luo’s ID card inside, he furrowed his brow unhappily.

“Why is it only yours?”

Qin Luo was startled by the sudden voice. When he turned around and saw, he exclaimed, “Boss?”

“Why is there only your ID card?” Dragon Lord spoke again, his eyes of dark gold firmly fixed on Qin Luo. “You didn’t arrange it for him?”

Qin Luo was puzzled. “Arrange it for whom?”

Dragon Lord rested his hand on the metal armrest of Qin Luo’s chair. “Your great-uncle.”

Qin Luo was taken aback. “Great-uncle didn’t…”

A subtle sound of breaking interrupted him. Qin Luo instinctively looked, and the metal armrest had been crushed.

Qin Luo felt his scalp tingling and, for some reason, a faint pain in his wrist. He quickly explained, “My great-uncle initially used my identity to get to know this girl. So when she arranged the household registration, she had no idea about my great-uncle.”

Qin Luo thought about the messy romantic encounters that his great-uncle had stirred up using his face, and his expression became somewhat awkward.

“Used your identity?” Dragon Lord’s expression softened. “What’s with that look? It’s an honor for him to use your identity.”

Qin Luo: “…” Is this even human language? If he could beat him up, he would have gone for it.

“Never mind, I won’t argue with you about this.” Dragon Lord cleared his throat. “I’ll handle his identity. Remember what I told you before.”

Qin Luo looked up, “Huh?”

“It’s about the house.” Dragon Lord frowned displeasedly and tossed a few blueprints into Qin Luo’s hands. “Discuss which one you like. Once you decide, I’ll arrange for you to move in!”

Qin Luo held the blueprints, feeling utterly confused. He had thought Dragon Lord was just joking earlier, but now he was eagerly handing over the blueprints.

Qin Luo looked out the window, wondering why the usually thrifty Dragon Lord suddenly became so generous, even on a day when the sun hadn’t set in the west.

“Friend Qin, what are you holding?” A passing young monk curiously peered over, “Oh, Friend Qin, are you looking for a house?”

Qin Luo put away the blueprints, “Dragon Lord’s house. He said he has several vacant properties under his name that he can lend me, so he let me choose.”

“Dragon Lord lending you a house?” The young monk’s expression was strange, “Friend Qin, are you sure you’re not in someone else’s illusion?”

How could the Dragon Lord lend a house to someone else? Initially, even with the precious relic of the Buddha as a deposit to ensure the house stayed clean, the Dragon Lord had heartlessly refused him.

Could it be that Qin Luo possessed something more precious than the relic?

Thinking of this, the young monk approached Qin Luo and whispered, “Friend Qin, what did you give Dragon Lord as a deposit?”

“Treasure?” Qin Luo awkwardly shook his head, “Master Wu Xiang, you’re kidding. If I had treasures, I wouldn’t be in such a miserable state. As for the house, Dragon Lord said he would lend it to me temporarily for free.”

“He’s lending it to you for free?” Master Wu Xiang’s voice rose by two degrees, his face filled with disbelief. At this moment, he lost the calm demeanor expected of a monk.

Qin Luo scratched his head, “I understand it’s hard to believe, but…”

“No, don’t say anything,” Master Wu Xiang covered his chest, took out a talisman from his pocket, slapped it on his forehead, and transformed into a lemon tree squatting in the corner.

Clearly, both were employees of the Special Management Bureau, yet Dragon Lord treated them so differently. He wouldn’t agree to exchange treasures before, but now he’s lending a house for free.

Is it because Qin Luo looks better than him, and has more hair?

Master Wu Xiang quickly denied the advantage of having more hair. A shaved head, like his, is better; at least, it won’t leave a whole floor covered with fallen hair.

Could it be his face?

Master Wu Xiang glanced at Qin Luo, who had fair skin, and a handsome and sunny appearance, seemingly much more attractive than him.

Could it be—

Suddenly, a conjecture formed in Master Wu Xiang’s mind. The excitement was so intense that even the tree body shook, luckily, the lemons on the tree were just illusions and wouldn’t fall off even if shaken.

After enduring until the end of the workday, Qin Luo tucked the blueprints into his pocket and took a taxi back home.

However, not surprisingly, his great-uncle wasn’t at home again.

Qin Luo took out his phone, thinking of calling his great-uncle. As he pressed the numbers, he suddenly remembered that his great-uncle didn’t have a phone.

He slapped his forehead, wondering how he could forget about this. Buying a phone doesn’t require an ID.

But just as Qin Luo was about to put his phone back in his pocket to go out and find someone, the phone started ringing, and he answered it directly.

“Have you made your choice?”

“Dragon Lord?” Qin Luo checked the number; indeed, it was the landline from the management bureau. “I just got home, and my great-uncle hasn’t returned yet. I’ll call once we’ve made our decision.”

“Okay.” Dragon Lord responded with restraint. “Let me know once you’ve decided, and I’ll send the driver to help you move.”

“No, there’s no need to trouble Dragon Lord,” Qin Luo quickly declined. “I don’t have much stuff here, and my great-uncle and I can handle it ourselves.”

“What? You still want him to help you carry things?” Dragon Lord’s voice raised significantly. “Don’t move; I’ll send the driver over immediately. Once you’ve made your choice, just let him assist you.”

Without waiting for Qin Luo to object, Dragon Lord hung up.

Qin Luo gripped the phone, starting to suspect if this was some kind of trap. Why would Dragon Lord suddenly be so helpful, as if he had ulterior motives?

“What’s that expression?” Qi Heng flashed back into the room, seeing Qin Luo looking puzzled, he raised an eyebrow and asked.

Qin Luo snapped out of it, turned to Qi Heng, and curiously asked, “Uncle, where did you go?”

“I went to the imperial tomb.” Qi Heng’s expression was cold and indifferent. He walked over to the sofa and sat down. The white immortal robe draped on the ground like flowing clouds.

Qin Luo immediately forgot what he wanted to say, “Uncle, why did you go to the imperial tomb?”

Qi Heng frowned displeased, “Someone has been to the imperial tomb.”

Qin Luo paused for a moment, and nervously spoke, “It’s normal for someone to visit. Now, our Jin State Imperial Tomb… is also a tourist attraction…”

Qi Heng: “…”

“However, Uncle, you don’t need to worry,” Qin Luo continued. “The underground palace that Grandfather had built for you is well-hidden. No one has discovered it so far. Even if it’s found, there are countless mechanisms inside. Grandfather employed skilled craftsmen to set them up, and the solutions to these mechanisms have long been lost to the world.”

In fact, later on, the last dim-witted emperor of their Jin State, in a desperate attempt to find the legendary immense wealth in Uncle’s underground palace after squandering the national treasury, couldn’t discover it despite all efforts. When Qin Luo read about this part of history, he was so frustrated that he wanted to tear up the history books.

“Boom, boom, boom.”

The knocking sound echoed, and Qin Luo got up to walk to the door and opened it. Outside stood two muscular men in black suits with bronze skin.

“Hello, may I ask who you are looking for?” Qin Luo said, secretly admiring the bulging muscles on their arms.

“Are you Mr. Qin?” one of them asked.

Qin Luo nodded, and the man continued, “We were sent by Long Jun to help you move. I’m Zhu Gang, and this is my younger brother, Zhu Lie.”

Suddenly remembering the main matter, Qin Luo felt a bit awkward. “But I haven’t discussed this matter yet…”

He was so engrossed in asking about other things that he forgot about the main matter.

“No rush, no rush,” Zhu Gang smiled. “My brother and I will wait outside until Mr. Qin has it sorted out.”

“Okay, please wait a moment.” Qin Luo looked apologetically at them, then closed the door and took out the blueprints, approaching Qi Heng.

“I almost forgot. Since we can’t get a house anytime soon, my boss said he has a few vacant houses that he can lend us. Great uncle, take a look and choose which one you like.”

Qi Heng glanced briefly and casually pointed to one, “Let’s go with this one.”

Qin Luo glanced at the blueprint, and it happened to be the one close to the management bureau. “I also think this one is good. It takes only seven or eight minutes to walk from there to the office.”

Qin Luo happily put away the blueprints. “My boss sent two people to help me move. Great uncle, do you want to avoid them?”

“No need.” Qi Heng calmly spoke, waved his hand, and everything in the room disappeared, not even leaving a single rope.

Qin Luo was stunned.

“Let’s go.”

Qin Luo regained his senses and eagerly asked, “Great uncle, what was that move you just used?”

It’s too convenient, isn’t it? With a wave of the hand, everything was collected.

Qi Heng, expressionless, glanced at him. “You can’t learn this move.”

Qin Luo blinked, “Wh-why?”

“Because you don’t have a Qiankun Ring.” Qi Heng glanced at him. “However, there is a spell called ‘Pocketing the Universe,’ which can also store items.”

Qin Luo looked eager. “Can I learn that?”

“Not now.” Qi Heng ruthlessly shattered his hope. “Your cultivation level is not enough.”

Qin Luo sighed disappointedly. The knocking at the door resumed, and he hurried to open it. Zhu Gang, holding a phone, asked, “Mr. Qin, just now Dragon Lord called and asked if you’ve made a decision.”

“Oh, I’ve decided.” Qin Luo nodded. “It’s the one near our management bureau.”

“Shall we start moving Mr. Qin’s belongings now?” Zhu Gang eagerly inquired.

“No need, no need.” Qin Luo quickly waved his hand. “Everything is already packed. We can go on our own.”

“Mr. Qin, Dragon Lord specifically instructed us to pick you and the esteemed person up with our car.” Zhu Lie, who had been silent, spoke up.

“The car is parked downstairs. Mr. Qin and the esteemed person can take our car,” Zhu Gang added. “Moreover, Dragon Lord also mentioned that there will be a bonus after everything is settled.”

As fellow drifters in this world, Qin Luo knew how difficult it was to obtain a bonus from Dragon Lord. He said, “Alright, let me ask my uncle.”

“I’m in the car, just come down directly.” A voice directly reached Qin Luo’s ears. Qin Luo was momentarily stunned, then smiled awkwardly at Zhu Gang and Zhu Lie, “It seems there’s no need to ask; my uncle has already come down.”

As Qin Luo spoke, another question occurred to him. Since his uncle could directly go out, why did he deliberately fool him earlier, transforming into his appearance and attracting attention?

Could it be intentional teasing?

Thinking about it, Qin Luo remembered the aloof and indifferent appearance of his uncle. He couldn’t help but harbor some doubts in his heart.

In the past, his grandfather had shared stories about the experiences he had while learning from his uncle. According to his grandfather, his uncle had a cold and indifferent personality with ruthless methods. Therefore, Qin Luo couldn’t believe that his uncle would have such a mischievous sense of humor, right?
