VGAB Chapter 66

Modern - The Legendary Immortal

Qin Luo sat on the side for quite a while, not receiving any attention from either of them. He decided to open a social media app and scroll through the trending topics.

As he scrolled, something caught his attention. There was a trending topic about a certain internet celebrity involved in a public altercation with their same-sex partner on the street. The person in the photos looked remarkably like him and Hu Ling.

Qin Luo immediately searched for Hu Ling’s account and sent him a screenshot, saying, “Explain?”

Hu Ling responded quickly: [Misunderstanding. It was captured by paparazzi that day and ended up trending. It was exploited by rival agencies. I was planning to send legal letters to those marketing accounts.]

As he explained, Qin Luo noticed that Hu Ling’s studio account had posted a clarification article on his behalf. They directly mentioned and tagged the marketing accounts, stating that if they didn’t apologize and delete the posts immediately, legal actions would be taken.

On the film set, Hu Ling proudly brushed the studio’s Weibo and then pressed the repost button. Lately, he’s been extremely unlucky, but not just anyone can come and step on him. After Hu Ling finished reposting, he glanced at the male lead who was being rigged up and flashed a slightly fierce smile at him.

He’s a devil; he holds grudges and seeks revenge on the spot.

“Your chess skills are impressive,” Qi Heng looked up at Jun Yu.

Qin Luo put down his phone, heard his great-uncle speak, and turned his head to look, one face full of approval, the other brimming with excitement. It was hard to tell who had lost and who had won.

“Great-uncle, who won between you and Dragon Lord?” Qin Luo stood up, walked to the two of them, and looked at the chessboard where the black pieces occupied vast territories. Qin Luo inexplicably felt something strange.

Clearly, Dragon Lord lost, but why does it look like he’s more excited than if he had won?

Jun Yu heard the praise, and couldn’t help but raise the corner of his mouth. It wasn’t in vain that he secretly sneaked into the library to study.

“It’s getting late. Dragon Lord, why not stay and have dinner?” Qi Heng suggested casually.

Qi Heng is now a celestial being, and in reality, he doesn’t need to eat. However, having ascended from a human, accustomed to three meals a day, he didn’t bother changing the habit since eating didn’t pose any issues for him.

Jun Yu also doesn’t need to eat, but upon hearing this, he quickly nodded, afraid that Qi Heng might retract his words if he nodded too slowly.

Among those present, the only one who needs to eat is Qin Luo, and the fragrance wafting from the kitchen makes his mouth water.

After dinner, Jun Yu left. Qin Luo waited for him to be gone for a while before asking, “Great-uncle, was Dragon Lord with you the whole day today?”

Qi Heng nodded, wiping his fingers lightly with a plain handkerchief. “He came over not long after you went to work.”

So, he didn’t go to work at all?

Qin Luo looked bewildered, recalling the experiences of chess masters in the past who got fined for being half a minute late. His mind couldn’t help but mutter about it.

It turns out Dragon Lord is fundamentally a double standard person, allowing the state officials to set fires but not allowing the common people to light lamps.

“He also mentioned signs of zombie activity in the deep mountains near An City, saying he values your abilities and wants you to investigate. I agreed on your behalf. Get ready; we’ll head there the day after tomorrow,” Qi Heng placed the handkerchief down.

Qin Luo was taken aback, finding it strange. “Why didn’t Dragon Lord just come and tell me directly? Why bother having Great-uncle convey the message?”

Qi Heng looked at him, his tone indifferent. “Perhaps he thinks now that you have a guardian, he should seek the guardian’s opinion before going out.”

What the hell, a guardian? Did Dragon Lord forget that he’s an adult?

Qin Luo was speechless, feeling choked. For some reason, he always felt like Dragon Lord’s actions were a way to push him aside.

The next day, Qin Luo went to work as usual, but he noticed that the people at the management bureau were looking at him differently again.

It was a gaze similar to the kind of awe and admiration one has when looking up at a towering mountain.

Qin Luo walked to the water cooler with his cup, and in the tea room, two masters were in conversation. Upon seeing him approach, they immediately revealed that awkward expression that spoke volumes.

Qin Luo was utterly perplexed. “Why are you all looking at me like that?”

“In every era, there are talented individuals,” one of them shook his head. “Our generation can’t match the courage of the young ones nowadays. It seems we are truly getting old.”

“Wen Dao friend is right,” the other patted Qin Luo on the shoulder. “Qin young friend, you’ve impressed us.”

Qin Luo: “……” What did he do now?

The two Daoist masters left with their water pitchers, and Qin Luo went to the water dispenser to fill his cup.

“Hey, Qin young friend?” came a voice at the entrance, and Qin Luo recognized it as Liu Neng’s footsteps. He turned his head, “Liu Ge, good morning.”

“Qin young friend, you’re really something!” Liu Neng grinned, approaching to pat Qin Luo on the shoulder. “When you get tough, you even dare to outshine Dragon Lord.”

He thought he might not see Qin Luo at the management bureau today.

After all, Dragon Lord doesn’t seem like the type to tolerate infidelity.

But he really didn’t expect it. Qin Luo not only played both sides but also dared to bring someone right under the Dragon Lord’s nose yesterday.

Qin Luo was dumbfounded, his expression strangely as if he had heard an absurd tale. “When did I outshine Dragon Lord?”

Yesterday, they were saying he was dating Dragon Lord, and today, they were calling him a scumbag. What, are they going to say he’s secretly married tomorrow?

The people at the management bureau are indeed too idle, aren’t they?

“We all saw it,” Liu Neng had the look of “don’t try to deceive us.” “Although the masters in the bureau are relatively old, because there’s not much work in the bureau, more or less, they pay attention to some entertainment news.”

Qin Luo suddenly thought of yesterday’s trending topic, gritting his teeth. “Liu Ge, did you see that trending topic too?”

Liu Neng looked at him sympathetically. “Not only me, everyone in the bureau saw it because the cafeteria played M Channel’s evening news yesterday, which talked about it and brought in experts to discuss the phenomenon of homosexuality.”

Qin Luo suddenly felt his vision go dark.

Perhaps because his complexion looked really off, Liu Neng started to console him instead. “People are romantic when they’re young. Be more open-minded. If Dragon Lord truly likes you, he won’t harm you.”

“Grant me a leave,” Qin Luo placed his cup aside. Liu Neng held onto him, “Dragon Lord won’t approve leave. It’s working hours now. Where are you going?”

“I’m going to find Hu Ling.” Qin Luo gritted his teeth. Liu Neng was taken aback, deeply pained. “Qin young friend, at a time like this, you still want to find that two-timing scoundrel?”

Qin Luo’s face turned pitch black. “I’m going to settle scores with him.” The matter of ruining his innocence couldn’t be resolved without a hefty compensation.

“Listen to my advice, apologize to Dragon Lord first,” Liu Neng earnestly advised. “Even if you really like someone else, peacefully break up with Dragon Lord before doing anything else.”

“I have nothing to do with Dragon Lord!” Qin Luo retorted through clenched teeth. “Dragon Lord just knows my great-uncle, so he lent the house to me and my great-uncle.”

“Dragon Lord knows your great-uncle?” Liu Neng was stunned, recalling the man who looked exactly like Qin Luo. “Could it be that Dragon Lord couldn’t get what he wanted, so he’s treating you as a substitute?”

Qin Luo: “…………”

It’s hopeless. In the mysterious world, there’s apparently a group of gossipmongers. This is likely to be a disaster.

“Liu Neng!” a slightly angered voice appeared behind the two. When they turned around, they met Jun Yu’s dark golden eyes, filled with anger.

“How dare you have such audacity, spreading baseless rumors about me!”

Jun Yu was extremely displeased. He clearly respected the Lord, yet these people insisted on imagining that he coveted the Lord without any basis.

What worried Jun Yu the most was if Qin Luo genuinely believed these nonsense rumors and spoke recklessly in front of the Lord. How would the Lord view him afterward?

He dared not think about it and did not want to think about it.

Seeing Dragon Lord getting angry, Liu Neng quickly apologized, “It was our reckless speculation. Dragon Lord, please don’t be angry.”

Jun Yu looked at Qin Luo, expressionless, and said, “They are talking nonsense. You don’t have to take it to heart.” Also, don’t go back and spread rumors.

Jun Yu looked at Qin Luo, hoping that Qin Luo could understand the unspoken words he didn’t articulate.

Qin Luo nodded, feeling relieved. Luckily, Dragon Lord was sensible and didn’t believe these baseless rumors.

“However, Qin Luo,” Jun Yu, seeing the nod, felt somewhat satisfied and kindly reminded him, “If you’re in love with that nine-tailed fox, be in love. Just don’t end up in the hot searches and become a subject of jokes all the time. Your great-uncle doesn’t really like the younger generation being too noisy.”

He remembered a thousand years ago when Qi Heng particularly disliked Qi Shaohua’s frivolous and flirtatious nature. It took a lot of effort to straighten out Qi Shao’s character.

He didn’t want, a thousand years later, for that person to have to go through the trouble of dealing with such matters again.

Qin Luo: “………” I’m not in a relationship with Hu Ling, Dragon Lord. Don’t forget, although Hu Ling is a clever fox, he’s a male fox.

Jun Yu spoke lightly, “Your great-uncle won’t care whether your partner is male or female. As long as you’re not frivolous, it’s fine.”

“But since you’re not with the nine-tailed fox, it’s better that way. It saves your great-uncle from worrying about you.”

After saying this, Jun Yu left.

Liu Neng, who had been trying to be invisible on the side, finally breathed a sigh of relief. He patted his chest, “That was close. It seems you can’t spread rumors about Dragon Lord casually. Who’s the unscrupulous one spreading such false rumors? It almost got me killed!”

From the Dragon Lord’s recent attitude, it was evident that there was no ambiguity between him and Qin Luo.

Qin Luo glanced at him coldly, thinking, “It’s probably you two gossiping in the restroom that someone overheard.”

The two of them left the restroom and returned to the office. Just as they sat down, the sky suddenly darkened, and all the light bulbs burned out.

Qin Luo took out a small flashlight from his desk and shone it outside.

“What’s going on?” Everyone rushed to the window, facing the bright light. Despite it being early in the morning, it was darker outside than in the middle of the night. Even for cultivators with better vision than ordinary people, it was pitch black.

In the distance, there were several banging sounds. Qin Luo speculated that when the sky suddenly darkened, the drivers couldn’t see clearly and failed to stop their cars in time, resulting in collisions.

This darkness lasted for a good half an hour before finally returning to normal.

The personnel from the Special Management Bureau, however, couldn’t find it amusing because this kind of situation would definitely spark discussions on the Internet. In the age of advanced technology, it was no longer easy to control information as it was in the past.

As the day broke, Qin Luo looked up and, in a moment of trance, seemed to see a giant fishtail swimming by.

“Amitabha, I will report this matter to Dragon Lord.” The monk without form folded his hands and recited, “As for the explanation for the external controversies, I will trouble fellow cultivators to handle that.”

“You stop right there!” Liu Neng huffed, glaring. “I knew you wanted to slack off. Dragon Lord is also in the office. Is there a need for you to report? Stay behind and think of a way to deal with it!”

As soon as he spoke, several phones in the Special Management Bureau rang simultaneously, and everyone had no choice but to answer the calls.

“What’s going on this time?” the leader on the other end of the phone shouted, “Creating such a massive abnormal celestial phenomenon, why didn’t your Special Management Bureau give us any warning in advance?”
