QTEBS Chapter 126

Yun Baizhou(1)

The homeroom teacher of Class 3, Grade 1 at Chenghu Town Central Primary School, Teacher Yun, has been feeling a bit worried lately.

At 5 PM, while the elementary school students were already lining up to go home, Teacher Yun had to stay in the office and could only ask the math teacher to escort the students out of the school gate.

The math teacher, a chubby and kind old man, took out a few White Rabbit candies from his pocket and placed them on Teacher Yun’s desk. “Alright, you keep this child company. I’ll go escort the students home. Be good, little one. Even your crying tugs at your grandpa’s heart.”

All the teachers in the office had left for the day, leaving only Teacher Yun and a 6-year-old child who had recently transferred to his class.

This was a little boy, fair-skinned and tender. According to the mischievous kids in Class 3, Grade 1, he was as likable as a girl and was often teased and bullied.

Yun Baizhou lifted the child onto a chair, crouched down, and used a tissue to wipe away his tears and runny nose. He whispered, “A real man shouldn’t cry.”

The little boy, who looked like a large doll, cried even harder. Between sobs, he complained, “Baby, baby is a boy, waaah! They want to pull off baby’s pants and see pee pee waaah waaah.”

Yun Baizhou suppressed a smile. “Tomorrow, I’ll give them a lesson, and they’ll have to apologize to baby, okay?”

“Really, really?” The child tried to hold back tears, with glistening tears on his chubby cheeks. “But Yun Yun can’t lie to baby, okay!”

Since coming to this school, this child has been particularly attached to Yun Baizhou. Having taught for so many years, Yun Baizhou saw a child calling him “Yun Yun” for the first time.

Yun Baizhou nodded and, after making a pinky promise with the child, walked out of the school gate with little friend Bao.

The child’s name was adorable—Zong Bao. Every time he referred to himself as “baby,” it melted the hearts of all the teachers. Due to his young age and shyness, Yun Baizhou always personally handed him over to the person picking him up whenever he left.

Although Chenghu Town Central Primary School seemed imposing with its name, the entire school was just along a main road. Normally, parents were not allowed to enter. Yun Baizhou held the small hand and guided Zong Bao down the stairs one by one. “Do you want a hug?”

Classmate Zong Bao, with a serious face full of baby fat, slowly descended the stairs with his short little legs. He was indeed smaller than his peers, and watching him go down the stairs seemed both cute and dangerous. Yun Baizhou’s heart softened, and he extended his hand, but it was met with refusal.

Zong Bao shook his chubby little face vigorously, and in a childish voice, he said, “Gege1big brother said that babies should go down the stairs by themselves, and baby can do it!”

Yun Baizhou chuckled, “Baby is really amazing!”

Yun Baizhou had not seen Zong Bao’s older brother.

He hadn’t seen Zong Bao’s parents either.

The middle-aged woman who usually came to pick up Zong Bao claimed to be his family’s nanny. In a small town like Chenghu, where hiring a nanny was affordable, it wasn’t surprising.

As they reached the ground floor, before they could exit the corridor, they heard the roaring sound of a motorcycle outside, like lightning.

Yun Baizhou frowned. The main road was where students lined up after school. Not only were motorcycles not allowed, but even cars were not permitted at this hour. Wasn’t Mr. Lin, the gatekeeper, on duty?

Zong Bao’s eyes, however, lit up. He dashed out with his short legs and shouted, “Gege!”

Yun Baizhou hurriedly followed him outside.

By the main road near this teaching building, there was a red and black motorcycle parked. The young man on it, wearing a helmet, had long legs clad in sleek black jeans. He was getting off the motorcycle, and as soon as he parked it, he was met by the rushing Zong Bao.

The young man scooped Zong Bao into his arms. The little Zong Bao nestled in his embrace, rubbing his head against his shoulder and cooing, “Gege.”

Yun Baizhou knew this was Zong Bao’s brother.

Approaching, he introduced himself, “You haven’t met me yet. I am Zong Bao’s homeroom teacher. My surname is Yun. Hello.”

The young man looked at the hand Yun Baizhou extended, his expression completely hidden behind the helmet. Yun Baizhou couldn’t discern his facial expression, but he observed as the young man, with one hand holding the child, slowly extended the other hand, clad in a black glove, for a handshake.

“Hello, Teacher Yun,” the young man’s voice came through the helmet, muffled and low, “I’m Zong Yuan.”

Zong Bao wiggled his bottom, “Gege~ Yun Yun is super awesome! Baby really likes Yun Yun!”

Yun Baizhou’s face warmed. The child’s straightforward praise was uplifting, and he heard the young man chuckle a few times before echoing the child’s words, “Yes, very good.”

Zong Bao was particularly happy today. He gazed at the motorcycle with starry eyes, “Gege, you brought Big Black too!”

Zong Yuan gently placed Zong Bao on the ground, crouched down, and removed his glove to tie Zong Bao’s shoelaces.

Yun Baizhou’s gaze naturally focused on him. The young man’s long legs folded gracefully, with fingers that were slender and articulate. He deftly manipulated the thin string, exuding a charm that was indescribably handsome and full of vigor.

Yun Baizhou remarked, “Parents are not allowed inside the school.”

His tone was gentle, not accusatory, but merely an attempt to make the young man aware of the rules.

Zong Yuan stood up, watching Zong Bao explore the motorcycle. He reached into his denim jacket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes and a mobile phone. Tucking the cigarette into his pocket, he said, “I don’t know Teacher Yun’s contact information.”

“187XXXXXXXX,” Yun Baizhou frowned for the second time today, “Mr. Zong, how old are you? Are you an adult?”

“Yeah,” Zong Yuan nonchalantly responded with a nasal tone. He dialed a number, and a few seconds later, Yun Baizhou’s old phone rang, playing a song from several years ago, one of the nation’s most popular.

Yun Baizhou turned off the phone, saved the number, and added three words to the notes: Zong Bao’s Brother.

Having had enough of exploring the motorcycle, Zong Bao enthusiastically called out to his brother, “Gege, Gege~ shall we go? Baby wants to ride Big Black!”

Yun Baizhou once again charmingly raised his eyebrows.

Zong Yuan tossed his phone into the pocket of his jacket, and then removed his helmet. Yun Baizhou’s eyes caught sight of his disheveled black hair.

Zong Bao was so adorable, but his brother was the complete opposite.

Zong Yuan casually ran his fingers through his hair. His eyebrows and eyes were sharp, and his fierce demeanor was already quite impressive. Once his face was revealed, the force typical of a young man couldn’t be concealed any longer.

Yun Baizhou felt like he had noted down the wrong information. It should have been “Zong Bao’s formidable brother” in the notes.

Zong Yuan didn’t glance at Yun Baizhou. He swung his long legs over the motorcycle, and Zong Bao, standing on the roadside anxiously, reached out with his short little hand.

Zong Yuan placed Zong Bao in front of him, and then put the helmet on his brother’s head. “I’ll ride slowly. You’re not allowed to take it off.”

“I know,” Zong Bao shook his head, “But Gege, it’s really heavy.”

His expression softened when talking to his brother, and compared to the tough and rebellious motorcycle attire, the contradictory charm became apparent.

The motorcycle revved up, and Zong Bao, with a tender voice inside the helmet, said, “Yun Yun, see you tomorrow.”

Yun Baizhou smiled and waved.

He watched the motorcycle disappear into the distance, only realizing he had overlooked something when it was no longer visible. Yun Baizhou sighed with regret, sending a message to “Zong Bao’s Brother”: Mr. Zong, motorcycles are not allowed on school grounds. Please be mindful next time.

It sounded a bit stern, so Yun Baizhou searched online and found something cute called “kaomoji2It’s those emojis in text style. Like this: ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა” to add at the end.

Zong Yuan’s phone vibrated. He looked ahead, and with the wind blowing his hair backward, his sharply defined face was completely exposed to the air. “Baby, check the phone.”

Zong Bao reached for the phone. He was starting to recognize characters now and, with his little brain working, he said, “Gege, it’s a message from someone called ‘Yi Xing.'”

Such a peculiar name, Zong Bao pouted, “Turns out someone is named ‘Yi Xing.’ It doesn’t sound as nice as Baby’s name!”

“Yeah,” Zong Yuan’s voice carried a smile, “Baby’s name is the most beautiful.”

Casually, he asked, “Do you like it when your big brother picks you up?”

“Like!”

Zong Yuan’s lips curled upward, drawing out his words, “So, do you like Teacher Yun more or me?”

Baby scratched his right hand-nails with his left hand, “Like Brother the most!”

“Really?”

Zong Bao became anxious, “Really! Though I also really like Yun Yun…”

“How about I ask Baby a question then,” Zong Yuan’s eyes took on the golden hue of the setting sun, and he asked in a not-so-serious tone, “What’s Teacher Yun’s name?”

“Teacher’s name is Yun Baizhou.”

Yun Baizhou held his Chinese textbook and wrote his name on the blackboard. “Today’s lesson has one word to memorize. Do you know which one it is?”

The little children in Class 3, Grade 1, echoed in unison, “Yun!”

Zong Bao’s hand shot up high. His cute little face was eager. Today, he wore a bunny outfit, and the adorable long ears hung obediently behind him.

Yun Baizhou called on him, “Does Classmate Zong Bao know which word it is?”

“It’s ‘Yun,'” Zong Bao proudly lifted his little face, hoping for encouragement from the teacher. “Baby wrote this word for Gege yesterday, and Gege said it sounds super nice!”

Yun Baizhou was taken aback, “Your brother?”

“Yeah,” Zong Bao became even more excited when talking about his brother, “But Baby doesn’t know how to write Yun Yun’s last name. However, Gege said he knows which two characters it is.”

When people first hear Yun Baizhou’s name, they often mistake it for “州” or “洲.” Yun Baizhou, accustomed to this, asked, “He knows?”

“Gege said,” Zong Bao imitated his brother’s words, “Flowing through those cypress boats, also flowing with the current. It’s this Baizhou. Gege also told me to ask the teacher if he got it right.”

Zong Yuan held a box of cake in his hand.

Zong Bao gazed longingly at the cake, “Gege, Baby wants to eat.”

Zong Yuan lounged on the sofa, legs crossed, supporting his face with one hand, “Cakes are for smart kids only.”

“I am very smart!”

Zong Yuan’s eyes slightly narrowed, “Then, Big Brother will teach you a sentence. If you memorize it, this cake is yours.”

Little fists clenched, “Okay!”

Yun Baizhou looked at Zong Bao in astonishment. He nodded, “Yes, those are the two characters. Classmate Zong Bao actually memorized them? Amazing!”

Zong Bao smiled shyly, “Actually, Brother also said another sentence.”

Yun Baizhou inexplicably recalled the face of that young man.

Such a sharp and military-like young man knew the Book of Songs.

He asked, “What’s the sentence?”

Thinking of the person he had briefly met last night, every detail, even the strands of hair, became vivid in his mind.

Zong Bao closed his eyes and thought for a moment.

“Elegant and graceful lady, a noble man seeks her company.”
