Hurst’s POV*
Two women summoned from another world.
Their skills were immediately appraised, and it was speculated that the young girl was probably the saint.
And the other woman’s skill was [Summon Kitchen], a skill that had never existed before.
In the Kingdom of Lydiata, skills are considered important, and they are appraised at birth and registered with the family register. Then, they will receive an education that matches their skills and grow.
So, skills are strictly registered, and the country operates an organization that can manage it as the main body.
There is no doubt that it is a unique skill that does not exist in the records of the Lydiata Kingdom.
Unique skills are rare.
This is the woman we summoned for this reason. Of course, she should be well protected, and I suggested that we should think carefully about her unique skills, but they didn’t feel very good about it.
The country was fascinated by the beauty of the girl who was summoned from the number, strength, and effects of her skills.
-Provide generous protection as a saint
-Guidance to rebuild the barrier in the Forest of Magic Beasts
-Since the skill is useful just by staying in the Lydiata Kingdom, imprinting that the current location is the best.
This is the attitude that the country’s upper echelons have decided on towards the summoned girl.
Being suddenly summoned and used by this country would be cruel for a girl.
However, now that she has already been summoned, she must move forward so that the girl’s future will be prosperous and healthy.
As a person appointed as the captain of the special task force to protect the saint, I was thinking of fulfilling that responsibility.
Until I heard that story. . .
“. . . Is it true that the summoned woman was put in a corner room in the royal palace?”
When I was walking around the unfamiliar royal palace, I happened to hear a story from one of the guards.
A woman with unusual black hair and exotic clothes is in a corner room on the first floor of the royal palace.
Since it is rare in this country, it was said that she was a daughter from another country.
The fact that there were two women summoned is kept secret from everyone except those who were present at the time and the upper management who were directly involved with the saint.
That’s why it’s only natural for the guards to see an exotic woman and think she’s a daughter from another country.
However, anyone who knows that there are two summoned women can immediately understand it.
. . . The summoned woman is not protected well, she is left to be abandoned in the corner of the royal palace.
“Oh, did you notice?”
Listening to the guards, I visited the office of Thruster, the next prime minister. Thruster seemed to be reading a document, and there were stacks of paper on his desk.
The owner of the room, Thruster, muttered uninterestedly.
“Right now, the upper class is excited about the saint-sama, who possesses unprecedented skills.”
Hearing Thruster’s words, I could feel my expression becoming grim. A selfish country and upper echelons. . . and you are one of them.
“I will attend the Saint-sama.”
“Are you someone who thinks only of your own interests?”
“That’s right. I have the advantage of attending the Saint-sama.”
“. . . Ryleigh huh?”
“Yeah. I’ll do anything if I can help Ryleigh. I’ve read through all the records kept in this country. There have been people who died because their skills were too strong. I’m not going to let him become one of those records.”
The eyes behind Thruster’s glasses shine.
Thruster has different hopes for this summoning.
“[Magic Power Infinity], [Holy Magic]. With these skills, it may be possible to extend Ryleigh’s life. If it’s for Ryleigh’s sake, it’s easy to look at the girl’s complexion and say something nice.”
Thruster’s younger brother Ryleigh is in a situation where he is always sleeping because his skills are too strong. However, with the power of the saint, there is a possibility that a so-called miracle will occur.
After hearing that story, I was able to make a decision that I had been thinking about before coming here.
“. . . I will step down as captain of the special forces.”
A special task force that protects the saint. It is a very prestigious position.
If it’s becoming the captain, it will be something that everyone aims for if they are a knight.
. . . I will step down from that position.
That was my decision.
“It’s selfish that you’re not interested in your position, but it’s a disadvantage for the Saint-sama that the key to defending this country isn’t nearby.”
Thruster shrugs his shoulders.
But he didn’t care and kept talking.
“I wonder how many other people will be there besides you?”
“Right. Right now, there are the idiot prince and Zezgard, as well as several other good-looking high-ranking aristocrats.”
“. . . That should be enough.”
Thruster is a person who acts for his own selfish desires, but if Ryleigh gets involved, he will act for the sake of a girl who is a saint.
Crown prince Elja is aloof, but his feelings for this country are real. He will protect the girl now that he knows that the girl will help protect his country.
Other high-ranking nobles may have their own agendas, but they won’t do any harm to the girl.
And Zezgard is a serious person who can think about the feelings of a girl suddenly brought to another world by summoning.
With that much, there must be at least one person who supports and protects the girl’s heart.
That’s why. . .
“. . .I want to protect he other woman who was summoned.”
. . . At least one person.
It should be fine to have someone who protects the other woman instead of the girl.
I grew up in the all-male Northern Knights, so I don’t know how to treat women, and I can’t say the rhetoric that Thruster said. Fortunately, however, there is a force.
So when I told Thruster that, Thruster twitched his eyebrows.
“Is there any benefit for me to listen to your wishes? I think you should be the saint’s escort. Among men who are only interested in themselves, the saint’s heart will be at peace if you are there.”
“Zez will be there.”
“Zezgard is impatient. You should also attend the saint. This is my idea, so I will not move to fulfill your wishes.”
After saying so, Thruster shifted his gaze to the documents in his hand saying that the conversation was over.
Look down at it. . .
I decided to use a method that I don’t really want to use.
“I’m sure you’ve arranged for Ryleigh’s magic tool. It’s possible from now on.”
A magic tool made to suppress Ryleigh’s magical powers. He obtained the magic stone and requested that it be changed to his shield after processing it as a precious metal.
I can’t imagine that Thruster will move because of the past, so I’ll also hint at the future.
I’m well aware of Thruster’s capabilities.
I don’t want to take such a method for my own promotion, but this time it’s rather close to being demoted, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Then, Thruster put away the papers he was holding and took out a new piece of paper from the drawer.
“Understood. Then, I will relieve you, Volvi Hurst, of your position as special duty captain and turn you into a guard.”
Saying that, he quickly wrote letters on the paper that had nothing written on it.
Apparently, he immediately started preparing the documents for the rearrangement.
“Please”
The fact that Thruster is moving means that there is no doubt that the rearrangement will take place.
I don’t know what the summoned woman can do, but. . .
I can feel the strength between my eyebrows at the lack of what I can do.
Then, while using the brush, Thruster raised the right side of his mouth.
“No way, and ordinary person wouldn’t be able to choose to step down from the prestigious Special Forces Squad, the head of a hundred elite soldiers, and serve as a guard for a noble woman alone. There will be a lot of interesting rumors.”
“I do not care.”
Thruster’s sarcastic way of speaking didn’t move my emotions in particular.
From the beginning, I had no intention of staying in the royal palace for long. It doesn’t matter what rumors spread.
. . . If I can stay by your side and protect you.
A woman relegated to a corner of the royal palace.
I want to be a force for the woman who is swayed by the circumstances of this country.
That’s what I think. . .
***
“Hurst-san! Look! I got a lot of big sweet potatoes!”
Saying that and waving at me with a smile was the woman who had been summoned to another world and driven to a corner of the royal palace. She is Isarai Shina-sama, whom I want to protect.
When we first met, she tended to shut herself up in her room, but now she is surrounded by many people and walks in the sun with a smile on her face.
. . . It was arrogant to want to protect her.
She neither resents nor laments her own circumstances.
Blaming no one, she chose to smile.
She wouldn’t tell anyone about it, but it must have been painful at times to decide.
However, she stood up by herself, facing forward. . .
. . . Before I knew it, feelings for her had sprouted in my chest.
I would be happy if she seemed to be having fun, and when she looked at me and gave me a smile, my heart skipped a beat despite my age.
Before my feelings became clear, I thought I might be sick because of the strangeness in my chest.
My heart beats uncomfortably fast, I feel like I’m being squeezed, and I feel like something is about to overflow.
All I was worried about was that once I found the answer, it wouldn’t be too much of a burden for her.
“Today is a sweet potato party. Baked sweet potato, sweet potato rice, sweet potato tempura, and sweet potato chips would be nice too. . .”
She received a basket full of potatoes as a thank you for helping people on her travels, and she relaxed her cheeks as if she couldn’t stand it.
Led by her words and smile, Ryleigh, the saint Mizunami-sama, Ash Claude, and Zez continued their conversation.
Today’s meal will be lively and fun.
“Hurst-san, let’s go!”
“Yes. I will bring it.”
I take the basket from her hand.
And while I’m at it, gently bring my face closer to her ear. . .
“Shina. Can you call me by name?”
. . . A little mischief.
While remembering the time when we first met, it may be that I wanted to realize the present.
Her face was bright red as she understood such words.
“Hii. . . Ah, Uh. . .”
“Is it no good?”
I may have let out a slightly spoiled voice.
Then she pulled away from me and put her hands over her ears.
“Ah, later!”
“Later?”
“. . ., fu, when we’re alone. . .!”
After saying that, she ran away with her face still red.
Ryleigh and Mizunami-sama followed her.
“You have a relaxed, unrefined face that makes you look like the captain of the Ice Special Forces Corps.”
Apparently Thruster was watching.
But it can’t be helped.
“Later, huh?”
If it’s just the two of us, she seems to be able to call me by name.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
I am very happy to walk with her.
And I’m glad I was the first to meet her at that time.
. . . I can’t help but love her.
That was a cute chapter. We got a nice little look into the mind of Hurst-san and a peek at his teasing personality.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter and thank you for reading!
