The two of them instantly cooled down.

Ruan Jiujiu: “…”

Cheng Jun: “…”

Ruan Jiujiu quickly pushed Cheng Jun away, put her clothes back on, and held the baby to comfort him. Normally, the baby didn’t fuss much at night, but for some reason, he seemed particularly unsettled tonight. Ruan Jiujiu didn’t know what to do, so she continued to hum softly to him.

After a few gentle sways, the baby fell asleep again.

Ruan Jiujiu let out a sigh of relief and carefully placed the baby back in the crib.

Cheng Jun propped himself up on the crib, staring at the baby inside with an expressionless face, trying to use his deathly gaze to prevent any more disruptions.

They patiently waited for a long time, but the baby was sleeping soundly and showed no signs of waking up. Ruan Jiujiu quietly breathed a sigh of relief in her heart and was about to go get a drink of water when Cheng Jun hugged her from behind and whispered, “Are you tired?”

“Not really, it’s okay.”

She was already feeling much more relaxed, as it was just occasional night crying from the baby, nothing major.

Cheng Jun kissed her temple gently. “You’ve worked hard.”

Ruan Jiujiu held his hand, turned her head, and planted a kiss on the corner of Cheng Jun’s lips. Her rare display of affection caused Cheng Jun’s heart to race, and he pressed Ruan Jiujiu back onto the bed to continue what they had left unfinished.

The familiar crying sound, like a nightmare, started again.

The baby cried loudly, and this time, before Ruan Jiujiu could even turn over, Cheng Jun expressionlessly picked up the baby, patting his back and trying to soothe him. But this time, the baby’s crying didn’t stop no matter how hard Ruan Jiujiu tried to comfort him. He wouldn’t drink milk, his diaper was clean, he had no fever, and nothing seemed unusual. Ruan Jiujiu became anxious and wanted to go to the hospital to see what was going on.

Cheng Jun wordlessly took the baby from Ruan Jiujiu’s arms, entered the study, and with one hand holding the crying baby, he opened a cabinet and pulled out a cardboard box.

Ruan Jiujiu, following behind, was startled. “What are you doing in the middle of the night?”

Cheng Jun replied, “I don’t want him.”

Ruan Jiujiu: !!!

The baby was crying, his whole body red and his face wrinkled. Tears streamed down his face, and Ruan Jiujiu couldn’t help but feel heartbroken. The cardboard box was lined with newspapers and towels, and Cheng Jun pressed it down a bit before placing the crying baby inside.

A miraculous scene unfolded.

The baby, who had been crying loudly just a moment ago, instantly stopped crying and began to contentedly suck on his pacifier before falling asleep.

Ruan Jiujiu was left dumbfounded.

He… stopped crying?

What kind of strange trick was this?

She cautiously picked up the baby, and within a few seconds, he showed signs of wanting to cry again. Ruan Jiujiu quickly placed him back in the cardboard box, and he immediately returned to a peaceful and tranquil sleep.

A strange silence filled the study.

After a while, Ruan Jiujiu looked incredulous and said, “Did he… consider this his nest?”

In contrast, Cheng Jun remained incredibly calm. “Perhaps.”

Ruan Jiujiu: …

Letting the baby sleep in a cardboard box gave her a strange feeling as if she were mistreating the child. Fortunately, the cardboard box was spacious enough, and Ruan Jiujiu placed several soft cushions inside, arranged a small pillow, and covered the baby with a blanket, placing him next to the crib.

Ruan Jiujiu made sure several times that the baby was sleeping comfortably before sitting by the bed, feeling perplexed.

What kind of father and son were they? They were both so different from normal people. If someone saw their child sleeping so comfortably in a cardboard box, they might think she was a stepmother.

As Ruan Jiujiu thought about it, she became even more frustrated.

Cheng Jun didn’t think too much about it. He squeezed himself next to Ruan Jiujiu, nuzzling her neck with his chin. Ruan Jiujiu was tickled by his nuzzling and couldn’t help but laugh.

He kissed her soft lips.

To avoid waking up the baby, Ruan Jiujiu held back her sounds the entire time, which was quite challenging. The room was filled with the slightly heavy breathing of the two of them, and Ruan Jiujiu melted like water, allowing Cheng Jun to have his way with her. Her body was extremely sensitive, and it didn’t take long for her to start begging, but she couldn’t push the man on top of her away.

That night, Ruan Jiujiu was thoroughly satisfied, but Cheng Jun seemed full of energy and even wanted to continue, still holding her hand.

Ruan Jiujiu had to beg for mercy and promise a variety of unequal treaties before Cheng Jun finally agreed. He kissed the tip of her nose and held her in his arms to sleep.

Ruan Jiujiu didn’t know what Cheng Jun had told the nanny, but she only arrived in the afternoon, so Ruan Jiujiu didn’t have to look too disheveled. The baby was awake during the day and didn’t cry when sleeping in the crib. His bright eyes sparkled like two precious gems. Ruan Jiujiu played with small toys to amuse him, and he giggled in response.

The mother and son bonding scene was so harmonious that Cheng Jun couldn’t help but watch with softening eyes. He suddenly felt that having a child might not be such a bad thing.

Ruan Jiujiu called out to him, “Come over and see how happy he is when he smiles.”

Cheng Jun walked over and bent down to look at the white, tender baby in the crib. The baby’s features were gradually developing, and one could vaguely see the delicate contours of his facial features. Whether he looked like Ruan Jiujiu or Cheng Jun, he would undoubtedly be a good-looking child in the future.

The baby smiled at Cheng Jun, his eyes curving, immediately reminding him of the enchanting look Ruan Jiujiu had when she smiled.

Cheng Jun reached out and gently touched the baby’s soft face.

The baby, who had just been smiling moments ago, suddenly pouted and started crying again.

Cheng Jun: …

Ruan Jiujiu watched in disbelief as he picked up the cardboard box. “What are you doing?”

Cheng Jun: “Looking for a good family.”

Although Cheng Jun made a fuss every time, Ruan Jiujiu was genuinely afraid that he might get angry one day and actually send the baby away. It seemed like father and son were naturally incompatible. The baby always smiled when he saw her but would start crying within seconds when he saw Cheng Jun. She wondered what kind of relationship they had in their past lives to have such a complicated fate now.

Whenever she saw Cheng Jun with the cardboard box, looking unhappy, Ruan Jiujiu couldn’t help but find it both amusing and exasperating. But strangely, the baby would get excited when he saw the cardboard box, as if he had encountered a loved one.

This made Cheng Jun even more unhappy.

As a result, the couple almost forgot about naming the baby.

Ruan Jiujiu listed the names she had in mind and insisted that Cheng Jun come up with a few names as well. Cheng Jun sat on the sofa eating grapes and spoke slowly, “I think…”

“Don’t you dare say ‘Cheng Xiu’!”

Cheng Jun: “Okay.”

Ruan Jiujiu looked at the list of names she had written and felt that they were too elegant and refined. She hoped the child would be lively and active in the future, unlike Cheng Jun, who was always reserved. A more cheerful personality would be better.

Cheng Jun glanced at the rows of names on the paper and made a suggestion, “How about ‘Dianbing Dianjiang’?1“点兵点将” (Diǎn bīng diǎn jiāng) in Chinese literally translates to “choosing and appointing soldiers.” It is a phrase used to describe a situation where people are chosen or appointed for specific tasks or roles, often with a sense of randomness or informality; the baby’s name would basically mean “Random” or “Casual”

Ruan Jiujiu: “…Please don’t be so casual.”

Naming a child is not like playing a game of ‘Dianbing Dianjiang,’ but only Cheng Jun would come up with such an idea.

The two sat on the sofa, lost in thought for a moment.

Cheng Jun snapped his fingers. “I’ve got it.”

Ruan Jiujiu’s eyes lit up. “What is it?”

“Cheng Le Duo2“乐” (Lè) means “joy” or “happiness,” and “多” (Duō) means “many” or “a lot.”; the name also sounds similar to Yakult in Chinese which is “养乐多” (Yǎng Lè Duō), it implies lots of happiness.”

Ruan Jiujiu: …

Cheng Jun: ?

She gave him a deathly glare. “Don’t think I don’t know you thought of ‘Yakult.’ I might as well call him ‘Cheng Ha Ha’ for even more happiness.”

Cheng Jun: “It’s a good name.”

……

After thinking for a long time, neither of them could come up with a satisfactory name. After much thought, they decided that Cheng Jun’s name, Cheng Le Duo, sounded smooth and easy to remember. However, this name seemed too casual, and they were afraid that others would associate it with a popular yogurt drink.

Ruan Jiujiu didn’t want their child to be teased about their name when they went to school. During her own school days, she had been given many nicknames because of her name3“jiujiu” (酒酒) typically means “alcohol” or “liquor.”, and some of them had hurt her feelings. So, they decided that their child’s name should not be too straightforward like hers.

After more discussion, they finally decided on the ultimate name. They changed “Duō” to “Duó,4“铎” (Duó) primarily means “clapper” or “gong clapper.”” which meant that their child would be like a wooden clapper in the hands of heaven, alerting them to stay on the right path. It also had a meaningful and memorable connotation.

And so, Cheng Le Duo grew up under the careful (???) care of his parents.

Author’s note: Finally, there’s a signal, exciting! Today’s two updates are combined into one!

The author has something to say:

Previously, I had planned to write an extra chapter for a parallel world school version, but after much consideration, I felt like I might be essentially writing fanfiction of my own work, and the outcome may not meet everyone’s expectations. With a sense of responsibility to all of you, I have ultimately decided to pass on the school version extra chapter. I’m very sorry about this.

The extras for ‘生崽’ are coming to an end with just a few more pages, and it’s estimated that they will officially conclude the day after tomorrow (bows).

In addition, the latest version of the app has released an annual report. For those who want to see it, please remember to update to the latest version and search for ‘annual report.’ You’ll be able to see a summary of the entire year.

Looking back on my own year, I’ve realized that I’m the laziest among my close friends. I must work hard in 2019 qaq.
