T1983 Chapter 24

Don't want others to look at me?

T.N: A long and funny slice-of-life chapter today, with many things happening! Happy reading and have a nice weekend!

Although Xu Shen’s marriage was a small thing for Nanshi, something not even worth mentioning, for his friends and those who knew him, it was a highly important event.

It was fine to get married but… Who was his wife?!

Yuan Xiaobing came to Chen Kai’s house and saw him playing with a motorcycle in the yard. She glanced at his floral shirt and hands dirty with engine oil, feeling thoroughly disgusted. “Kaizi!”

When Chen Kai heard her voice, he thought to himself: “It came so quickly, ahh…” But he still turned around and shouted with a smile: “Miss Yuan! Long time no see… Such a rare visitor!”

“Stop pretending.” Yuan Xiaobing said. “I want to ask you something.”

“What’s the matter?” Chen Kai continued to squat on the ground. “Just ask.”

Yuan Xiaobing, wearing a delicate pink dress and carrying an exquisite small bag, also squatted over and asked in a whispering voice: “Xu Shen is married, right?”

Everyone knew this, so it made no sense to deny it: “Yeah.”

“Have you seen his wife?” Yuan Xiaobing knew he must have seen her. “Kaizi, tell me, what does she look like?!”

Chen Kai has already been warned not to talk nonsense: “Why are you asking about this?”

“I just want to know where I lost?” Yuan Xiaobing was also very direct. “If you don’t count the fact that I wanted him to marry into my family, it can only come down to personal appearance and knowledge. Do you understand?”

Chen Kai was silent for a moment. He really didn’t want to offend her, but since she asked, he had to tell the truth. “Actually it’s not your fault. You just got a bad reincarnation…”

One that’s flat between the legs…

“So it’s because I was born into a good family.” Yuan Xiaobing nodded knowingly.

“Pfft!” Chen Kai laughed, receiving a slap in the face from Miss Yuan. He confessed: “Damn, I mean unless you get reborn into a body that looks just like Xu Shen, you have no chance. Do you understand?!”

Yuan Xiaobing thought that Chen Kai was making fun of her for not being as attractive as Xu Shen, so she picked up her handbag to hit him: “Damn you, Chen Kai!”

But she still really, really wanted to squeeze some information from Chen Kai… “So what does his wife look like?!”

“Very good.” Chen Kai said perfunctory.

“How good is very good?!” Yuan Xiaobing asked again.

“Just very good!” Chen Kai continued to be perfunctory.

“I don’t believe it!” Yuan Xiaobing knew Chen Kai’s temper very well, so she was not annoyed by his tactics. “Are you bragging? Is there any girl in Nanshi that’s better than me?”

“Yuan Xiaobing, you are so shameless!” Chen Kai looked like he was about to vomit. Seeing that Yuan Xiaobing still raised her chin proudly, he was indeed moved. “Just wait for a bit.” He got up and went back to the house to get something.

“Do you have her photograph?!” Yuan Xiaobing was happy but also startled… How could Chen Kai have a picture of Xu Shen’s wife? Wasn’t this relationship too complicated?!

“What are you thinking about?!” Chen Kai felt speechless.

What he took out was not a photo, but the paper that Shu Ran had written for him. But still… Why did Xu Shen’s wife write his name and two lines of poetry for Chen Kai?!

It wasn’t a photo, but in a sense, it was better than one. Yuan Xiaobing took the piece of paper in her hands, looking at it with mixed emotions. “Did Xu Shen’s wife write it?”

Chen Kai: “Written right in front of Brother Shen. Doesn’t it look good?”

“Why did she write this for you?!” Yuan Xiaobing’s expression became even more complicated…

As soon as Chen Kai saw her face, he knew she was definitely overthinking. He took the piece of paper back and explained: “Because I questioned him, just like you’re questioning me now!”

“So how is it? Doesn’t it look good?” He continued.

The handwriting was good, but Yuan Xiaobing kept staring at him, not understanding. “Why are you insisting on this… She’s not your wife!” Judging by that piece of paper, Xu Shen’s wife was also an educated and sensible woman…

“It’s my brother’s wife, what’s wrong with me praising it?!” Chen Kai asked.

Yuan Xiaobing: “Still, you haven’t said anything about her appearance! Is she talented, but not pretty?”

“The appearance is also good… And the temperament too.” Chen Kai recalled Shu Ran’s face, racking his brain to search for adjectives: “Humorous, interesting, elegant… As fresh as the spring breeze… Oh, anyway, my Brother Shen is obsessed with it!”

Chen Kai also knew that Shu Ran helped with the slogans and packaging designs for his mother’s teas: “Also good with words and has a smart mind. Overall, it’s good everywhere!”

Hearing this, Yuan Xiaobing’s smile faded away. Is there such a person in Nanshi?!

Then she became even more interested!

Chen Kai admitted that he seemed to have said too much, and maybe Xu Shen would feel like killing him: “Yuan Xiaobing, if you say you’ve heard it from me, I’ll never speak with you again!”

“Hmm…” Yuan Xiaobing was annoyed, feeling like her heart had been scratched. But she also knew that Xu Shen was unwilling, so there was no way to meet his wife.

“Oh!” This feeling was so unpleasant!

“Just give up.” Chen Kai gave her a pitying look. “I don’t think Brother Shen will divorce in this life. Forget about him and find a good man to live with.”

“Go away!” Yuan Xiaobing glared at him. “I don’t care about Xu Shen, I just want to know what his wife looks like!” Just one glance was enough!

“Then I can’t help you.” Chen Kai continued to work on his motorcycle, ignoring the lovelorn Miss Yuan.

Yuan Xiaobing lingered for a while until she realised that Chen Kai was really planning on ignoring her. She left, stomping her feet.

…………

A familiar-looking car turned into the intersection in front of them. Xu Shen raised his eyebrows, riding his bicycle in the opposite direction.

“Where are we going?” Shu Ran found himself on an unknown street, somewhere he had never been before.

“Market. Let’s buy some vegetables and meat. I don’t think there’s anything to cook at home.” Xu Shen answered.

This was something Shu Ran had never paid attention to before, so now he felt unqualified and a little embarrassed.

After a while, he said hesitantly: “Brother Shen… I want to go out and do some work. Self-employment or some trade…”

“Is it necessary?” Xu Shen turned his head and interrupted him. “Working outside means a lot of work and not enough money. You can just stay at home. Why go out and suffer so much?”

His reaction was within Shu Ran’s expectations.

“I’m not stupid.” Shu Ran continued. “I won’t make my life hand doing useless work.”

“Is there such a thing as an easy job nowadays?” Xu Shen felt like he had a say in this matter. “It doesn’t matter what you do. As long as you work for others, you’ll get abused. I don’t want you to suffer any grievances, and our family is not short of money, so there’s no need.”

Shu Ran quieted down and pitched his waist when he heard this: “Is this how it went for you? It sounds like you’re talking from experience.”

“Me?” Xu Shen was confused. “It was good.”

Shu Ran was quite suspicious… With Xu Shen’s upbringing and experience… Could it have been good?

Xu Shen laughed at himself. “I have a tough temper. If we can’t reach an agreement, I’ll just leave and never talk about it again. I don’t beg others to live.”

Yes, Shu Ran thought. Isn’t that also his principle for life and work?

As if understanding, Xu Shen looked back at him: “But you are different. You have a soft temper, and others will bully you.”

Shu Ran almost choked. What gave Xu Shen this impression?! He needed to reflect on himself…

“I don’t have a soft temper…” At most, he just didn’t bother to worry about things and made do with whatever was given to him.

“Not soft?” Xu Shen said feeling amused: “For example, think about today. You were obviously very tired and wanted to go home early to rest, but you couldn’t bear to say anything and even ran after Aunt Feng for a long time. What were you thinking?”

“…” Shu Ran was stunned by what he said, but he just felt that it wasn’t a big deal to force himself in order to show respect to others. “Ahem… It wasn’t particularly tiring…”

“Yeah, but I couldn’t do it.” Xu Shen continued. “I would have given priority to myself. That’s why I say I have a tough temper, and you don’t.”

Compared to Xu Shen?! Nah… Shu Ran felt that he definitely couldn’t compare.

You could tell by watching Xu Shen interact with others. This person has always been self-centred and never cared about other people’s reactions.

The same went for getting married. Xu Shen knew from the beginning that the other person didn’t like him, but as long as he was attracted, he could get together with that person. It didn’t matter whether there was love or not.

Such a ruthless man.

Shu Ran could only say this. Xu Shen was worthy of being a legendary individual who appeared on the news several times.

“Writing books.” Xu Shen felt this field was suitable and beneficial for Shu Ran’s development. “Don’t you like writing books? Then write at home with peace of mind. I’ll take care of the things outside.”

Shu Ran had grown up, but this was the first time someone had said to him: “Don’t worry, I’m responsible for your well-being.”

Quite touching.

“You can beat me with a bamboo pole if you want…” Shu Ran squeezed Xu Shen’s arm from behind. ” But I still want to try if I have the chance!”

Without waiting for Xu Shen to refute him, he continued: “Don’t worry. I’m hard-working, but difficult to satisfy. I can run faster than anyone else if I’m wronged.”

“Really?” Xu Shen’s thoughts took a complete turn. “You had the chance to run, but you didn’t. Does it mean that I didn’t wrong you?”

Shu Ran clicked his tongue. “I can still do it now!”

When they arrived at the vegetable market, Xu Shen stopped the bicycle, and Shu Ran jumped out of his back seat. Sure enough, Xu Shen looked surprised and scared, thinking that he really wanted to run away from him. The look on his face was the greatest confirmation for Shu Ran.

“Comrade Shu Ran!” Xu Shen looked at him and smiled bitterly. “Can’t you just answer my question directly?!”

“You didn’t!” Shu Ran continued. “Comrade Xu Shen, are you satisfied?”

He raised his eyebrows, making Xu Shen feel itchy. He pushed his bicycle and followed him. “Do you see something that you feel like eating?”

The street was full of small vendors. People pushed carts and bundles of home-grown vegetables and fruits from the countryside, in order to sell them in the city. Everywhere the eyes looked, all they could see was green. Even though some of the vegetables did not look so good, they were all harmless. The market had quite a variety, with potatoes, tomatoes, water spinach, and green beans.

The streets were full of people, bustling while carrying bamboo baskets.

In front of the meat store, there was a long queue of people. This was the gap between the rich and the poor, those living in the city and those from the countryside. It was common for people from the city to have a wage and be able to afford to eat meat every now and then.

There were also food stalls on the street, selling fried dough sticks, pancakes, and so on. Looking at the dazzling array of food, Shu Ran was not greedy, but immediately thought about that group of children from the Zhou family.

“Why did you stop?” Xu Shen’s tall body enveloped him, almost embracing him in his arms. “What are you looking at?”

“There’s no bamboo basket. We can’t buy tomatoes…” Shu Ran looked at the fancy pile of red tomatoes.

Xu Shen himself didn’t usually come to the vegetable market. He always asked his brothers to buy stuff for him. “That’s okay, let’s get one.” There were bamboo baskets for sale on the street.

“We can only buy one…” Shu Ran went over and picked a big basket,  able to carry a lot of things. It was hand-woven and comparable to a work of art.

“Boss, how much does it cost?”

“The big one is fifteen cents, and the small one is eight.” The boss answered.

It wasn’t expensive. Shu Ran touched his pockets, only to find out that he didn’t bring any money with him. He looked at Xu Shen helplessly: “I have no money.”

“Don’t look so confused.” Xu Shen smiled slightly and went over to pay for him. “Remember to bring some with you the next time you go out.”

“Okay.” Shu Ran responded with shame. He didn’t have the habit of carrying cash with him. After all, he came from an era where everyone only had a phone in their pockets.

“Auntie, please weigh me three pounds of green beans and three pounds of tomatoes.” Shu Ran stood in front of a stall that looked like a bicycle with a bucket on top. He didn’t know the name of this type of vehicle, thinking that it might be a tricycle.

“Okay!” The aunt picked up the goods happily and then moved aside to let him look at the scale.

“Three pounds!”

Shu Ran was very embarrassed. He couldn’t read the scale, so he could only pretend to nod. “Yeah, okay…”

After buying enough vegetables, it was time to buy some meat.

The pork was a bit more expensive than fish, costing 76 cents per pound. He didn’t know if it was considered a luxury, but Xu Shen liked eating it.

The salesperson asked: “Do you have guests at home? Why buy so much?”

Buying meat not only costs money, but also meat tickets. Most people wouldn’t buy so much unless they had guests or they were hosting a banquet.

“No, I just got married. My wife is too thin and she needs to gain weight.” Xu Shen said as if it was true, and the salesperson even congratulated him on the happy event.

Hearing Xu Shen tease him like this, Shu Ran looked at the meat on the chopping board and rolled his eyes secretly.

The large basket of food was carried by Xu Shen. Passing by a food stall selling bean curd powder mixed with ice, he asked Shu Ran: “My wife, do you want some?”

Shu Ran shook his head. He drank a lot of tea in the afternoon, and now he didn’t want to touch anything liquid.

“Don’t like soy?” Xu Shen asked.

“No, I just don’t want it now.” In fact, Shu Ran felt that soy products were very good, healthy, nutritious, and not at all expensive.

Ouch… Shu Ran suddenly realised that since transmigrating here, all his thoughts were related to cost-effectiveness.

“Then let’s buy some of the cooked rabbit from upfront. Kaizi and the others are coming over tonight.”

“Okay.” Shu Ran nodded.

Nanshi’s economy was quite developed, so the food stalls on the side of the road were all large, some of them even having brand-new glass cabinets and colourful sun umbrellas. It was a mix of traditional and foreign style elements.

“Do you want to eat candied haws on a stick?” Xu Shen couldn’t help but ask Shu Ran when he saw an old man selling sweets. This time, Shu Ran didn’t refuse and nodded: “Two sticks!”

“I don’t want to eat it.” Xu Shen dragged him over.

“One is for my sister!” After he finished speaking, Shu Ran added: “It’s such a big stick, I thought one should be enough for both of us…”

Xu Shen smiled and said nothing, pushing the sticks in his hands after buying them.

The vegetable basket was hung on the front of the bicycle, while Shu Ran sat in the back. One of his arms was hugging Xu Shen’s strong waist, while the other held up the candied haws. He tilted his head to eat, looking at the children on the roadside who were so greedy that they cried.

But Shu Ran didn’t forget to leave two bites for Xu Shen. He didn’t have to eat if he didn’t like it, but he still had to show his appreciation and coax the man’s feelings.

“Brother Shen, I’ve left this for you.” When they got home, Shu Ran conveyed his thoughts to Xu Shen and then left for the kitchen with the basket.

“Sister, we are back!”

Xu Shen took the two candied haws that his wife left for him, smiled, and bit one into his mouth. The shell was sweet and crunchy, tasting particularly good.

“Dingzi, you’ve been to the market!” Zhou Hui happily looked at the basket full of vegetables and meat. “It’s so much, enough for several meals!”

Life at Xu Shen’s house was very luxurious, but it also made Zhou Hui aware of the man’s lavish spending and his lack of any living skills.

“Sister, what do you think this is?” Shu Ran gave the stick of candied haws to Zhou Hui. “It’s delicious! Take it quickly!”

“Did you buy this?!” Zhou Hui’s expression was complicated. She also thought of the younger brothers and sisters at home. They would be very happy if they could also eat a bunch of sweets.

“Brother Shen bought it.” Shu Ran stopped smiling when he saw her face. He sighed and understood what she was thinking. “In the future, we will work hard to make more money, and strive to let our family live a good life as soon as possible.”

“Yeah.” That’s what he said, but making money was not so easy.

Zhou Hui hesitated for a moment but still chose to discuss it with her brother. “Dingzi, after I get married, I want to do some small business, like making clothes for people or something. I’m interested in this and quite good at it.”

“Okay!” Shu Ran was surprised. It turned out that Zhou Hui still had that idea, and he was quite supportive of her. “I can help you draw the designs.”

“Can you do that?” Zhou Hui looked at him with a smile. In the evening, they planned on having green beans fried in lard, and Zhou Hui was already preparing to cook.

“Yes, you don’t trust my aesthetics?!” Drawing some dresses was too simple for Shu Ran.

“Trust, what’s there not to trust?” Zhou Hui thought about the designs her brother had previously drawn… They were really novel and beautiful.

“Don’t worry, I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised.” Shu Ran carefully took out the rabbit meat. It was hot and spicy, deep-fried, and covered with a pleasant golden colour on the surface. It should not spoil easily.

“It smells so good, sister. Do you want to taste a piece?”

“Why did you buy so much?” Zhou Hui once again felt that these two men spent money too lavishly, living a way too extravagant life.

“Brother Kai and the others are coming to discuss things tonight. Brother Shen bought it for them.”

“Then we’ll all eat it later in the evening.” How could they hide in the kitchen and secretly eat it now?!

Shu Ran smiled, arranged the ingredients, and went back upstairs. He saw Xu Shen walking out shirtless and covered in moisture, with water droplets still dripping down from his hair, all over his forehead.

The scenery was very nice, but he still had to say something: “Brother Shen, can you put on some clothes after taking a shower?” There was a girl living with them… It would have been so embarrassing if Zhou Hui had come upstairs just now.

Furthermore, Xu Shen was the man he had a close relationship with, and he unexplainably felt a little unhappy when he exposed his figure so generously…

“Huh?” Xu Shen pushed back his hair, exposing his forehead. “Isn’t it quite normal to be shirtless? There are so many old men working in the fields wearing nothing but underpants.” He might have said that, but he still started to put his clothes back on.

‘Well, you already said, those are old men.” Shu Ran continued. “But you are not an old man, you are a very handsome young man with charming looks, one that already had a wife.”

His praise was reasonable, making Xu Shen feel happy. He smiled and agreed: “Okay, I will wear them from now on.” After that, he came over and kissed Shu Ran’s face. “Don’t want others to look at me?”

Wasn’t that a big pile of nonsense?!

“Do you want others to look at me?” Shu Ran nodded.

“I don’t want to.” Xu Shen understood, but then thought about something, and suddenly turned his head to look into Shu Ran’s eyes. “Is that true?”

Was Shu Ran really jealous or just thinking about Zhou Hui?

“What’s true or false?” Shu Ran was confused.

After staring at his wife for a long time, Xu Shen shook his head. It didn’t matter if it was true or not, as long as he was by his side.

“It’s nothing. I’ll get you water so you can also wash.” It was so hot outside, and it felt uncomfortable not to wash. Xu Shen finished dressing and then went downstairs to fetch water for him.

Shu Ran touched his face and said nothing. He calmly went to the bathroom. It was not dark yet, and natural light came in from the window, shining on his body. Shu Ran held the bucket and warm water poured down from his head, all over his face and shoulders. It felt very comfortable as if his skin had been soothed, and a spontaneous feeling of joy arose in his heart. There was no need for a comparison… It was only after experiencing hardships that one could truly appreciate a hard-won stable life.

He looked down at his waist and crotch, where there were still faint marks that had not disappeared, dotted all over his fair skin. It was truly a sight that made people think.

“Tsk…” Shu Ran looked away, wiping them with his hand.

Before he started talking about sex, his concept of intimacy was incredibly poor. He had no desire to explore and he didn’t care about the extensive information that could easily be found everywhere. He just occasionally listened to his roommate’s advice and took care of his needs in the dormitory, without finding it disturbing.

So Shu Ran didn’t understand. Why were his roommates so excited about spending a night with their girlfriends? Wasn’t it similar to what they could do by themselves, anyway?

It wasn’t until he got tired of being with Xu Shen every day, that Shu Ran began to understand the excitement of spending the night with your lover. It was indeed very stimulating to the nerves, making Shu Ran want to put aside all his worries and thoroughly devote himself to being with him.

Also, thinking about Xu Shen’s life-threatening performance in bed… Shu Ran took a breath and closed his eyes, pouring a ladle of water all over his face.

After finishing his shower, Shu Ranh returned to the bedroom. His cheeks were flushed, with eyes that looked like he had been crying. Of course that didn’t happen, it was just the high temperature and getting steamed in the hot water.

“Let me do it.” Xu Shen took the towel in his hands and looked at his face carefully. “Wife, was the water too hot? Your face is so red.”

Shu Ran looked like someone who had been bullied, sitting on the edge of the bed with his legs spread, stomping all over Xu Shen’s thoughts.

“Yes? It should have been…” Shu Ran had just finished his bath, so his voice was lazy, with wet hair plastered on his forehead, looking very good.

He was originally fair and handsome but now, with his hair covering his eyes, he looked so good that it made people’s hearts melt.

Xu Shen wiped Shu Ran’s hair, then bent down and lifted his chin, kissing him for a long time. Only when tears were forced out of Shu Ran’s eyelids did he release his face and sigh with dissatisfaction…

The second before separation, Shu Ran’s whole body trembled because Xu Shen, that bastard, knew exactly how to seduce him and make his tongue numb.

“Are you trembling?” Xu Shen chuckled and lightly kissed the corners of his eyes. “So sensitive?”

Shu Ran’s ears felt hot, and he felt they must have been extremely red.

“Ahem, I’ll go downstairs and cook with my sister…” Shu Ran pushed Xu Shen’s arms away. Before he could say anything, he pushed open the door and went out. He felt that it would be too easy for two people to react out of control in that tight, enclosed space.

Xu Shen didn’t follow him, he just sat down, looking at his departing figure.

…………

In the kitchen, Zhou Hui instructed her younger brother: “Go and bring back some firewood. You are responsible for tending to the fire while I cook.”

“Okay.” Shu Ran responded while walking to the foot of the wall where firewood was placed in the yard. There was not much left, only enough to cook food and boil water for tonight.

Shu Ran hugged an armful and asked his sister: “Sister, there’s only so much left. Is it enough until tomorrow morning?”

Zhou Hui glanced at it: “So little… Not enough.”

“Oh.” Shu Ran walked out naturally, shouting towards the balcony: “Brother Shen, there’s no firewood left! come down and chop some!”

Zhou Hui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry… She wanted to go out and grab her brother’s ears and scold him. He was disturbing Brother Shen for food and accommodation, so couldn’t he just chop some wood himself?!

“Coming!” But Xu Shen had already walked out, looking as if he’d been summoned, and thinking there was nothing wrong with it.

Knowing that he doted on her younger brother, Zhou Hui couldn’t say a single word. Xu Shen didn’t have any family, so maybe he loved her brother as his own…

Shu actually felt proud to have such a lovable younger brother. If possible, she hoped that everyone could be kind to him. She was just worried that people’s feelings could easily change, so it was not a good idea to rely on others entirely.

Usually, when chopping firewood in the summer, Xu Shen would take off his shirt to prevent his clothes from getting dirty or wet with sweat. But this time he remembered Shu Ran’s request to not go shirtless, so he didn’t. Shu Ran lit a fire for the stove and came out to quietly look at Xu Shen. The man was a professional, the type that could split a pillar into two halves with just one strike of the axe.

The posture was so cool too…

No wonder there was a group of perverts who liked to watch videos of men chopping wood… The sight was so pretty!

“Do you want to try?” Xu Shen raised the split piece of wood, glancing at his wife who was sitting under the pomegranate tree, watching him.

“Don’t want to.” After being caught peeking, Shu Ran shook his head, with his hands behind his back. “I’m only responsible for lighting the fire!”

Xu Shen smiled, looking at Shu Ran’s arms and legs… The wood at home was probably chopped by Zhou Qiang.

“Did you chop all that firewood?” Shu Ran asked with curiosity.

“No, I bought it from the market.” Xu Shen casually chatted with him.

“Oh.” Shu Ran was getting increasingly curious. “Can the firewood sellers just find a random hilltop and chop the trees, or do they have to own the land?”

“You don’t know?” Xu Shen glanced at him doubtfully but still explained: “In general, the production team divides the hills accordingly. Some families have lots that they don’t want to harvest, so they just sell them.”

As if he asked a stupid question that shouldn’t have been asked, Shu Ran quickly shut up.

After almost chopping all the wood, Xu Shen put down the axe, resting for a while. Seeing him stop, Shu Ran went over to collect the chopped pieces and carried them into the kitchen for later use. In order not to stain his new clothes, he picked them up using a snakeskin bag to cushion them.

If Chen Kai saw him work like that… He would most likely feel sour that he was so spoiled.

In the kitchen, Zhou Hui poured the chopped lard into the pot and the mouth-watering smell immediately wafted out.

After the lard had melted, it was time to put in the vegetables and cover them with a lid. It was easy to cook and delicious.

“Take this out.” Zhou Hui worked very neatly and quickly fried a plate of green beans with lard. The colour was bright and attractive.

“Okay!” Shu Ran helped and prepared the table for the three of them. “Brother Shen, let’s eat!”

“Wait a moment for Sister.” Xu Shen looked at the restless little bee, pulling a chair for him and intentionally sitting very close.

Shu Ran noticed it but said nothing.

“Here it comes, there’s also tomato and egg soup.” Zhou Hui cheerfully brought out the last dish. Although there were only two dishes in total, everything looked delicious.

Shu Ran: “Thank you, Sister!”

Xu Shen was wondering if Shu Ran would try to appease him after expressing his thanks to Zhou Hui. He didn’t deliberately try to figure out Shu Ran’s habits, but the idea just popped up in his brain.

“Brother Shen, it’s hard work chopping firewood…” Shu Ran hesitated for a moment and then added as expected.

“Oh, thank you for accompanying me through rain and dew.” Xu Shen said with a smirk. He was not annoyed but found it very interesting. It was fascinating to observe Shu Ran, and it was also exciting to discover every aspect of his personality.

“…” Shu Ran was a little embarrassed with himself, but realised that Xu Shen didn’t seem to care, so he relaxed.

Despite their strange relationship, the atmosphere in the room was surprisingly harmonious.

Shu Ran came from a family where people only reunited for dinner. Eating alongside them made him feel like he was choking on pins and needles, extremely disturbing. Anyway, not as relaxed as he felt now.

It was not only Shu Ran who felt this way. Xu Shen also agreed. He was very satisfied with his current life.
