TATLC Chapter 5

Lu Lin was thinking about what he should do to survive that time and space while sipping the chocolate milk, and suddenly there was a sound from under the bed.

Lu Lin squatted down and looked under the bed, a five-year-old boy crawled from under the bed and his eyes were glued to the chocolate milk in Lu Lin’s hand.

Lu Lin was just thinking about whether or not he should confess about his convenience store to Chen Xiao Mi, but now it seemed like he was arrested.

Lu Lin was startled, but soon calmed down.

Chen Xiao Mi’s house was quite far away with no neighbors, this boy must be Chen Xiao Mai, Chen Xiao Mi’s youngest brother.

Lu Lin investigated the host’s memories and found out that Chen Xiao Mai was a premature baby, he had been weak and sickly since he was born. He suffered from a high fever two years ago that was not treated immediately, this boy was now a bit special.

“Do you want some?” Lu Lin asked Chen Xiao Mai, pointing at the chocolate milk in hand.

Chen Xiao Mai hesitated slightly and took the bottle from Lu Lin’s hand, he took a sip and became excited after he had a taste.

Sugar was precious in this time and space, a piece of candy was worth two cents, and only the rich could afford sugar as a snack.

Chen Xiao Mai’s reaction made Lu Lin think of the days when he was a child, he would wave his hands and stomp his feet happily after he got the snacks he liked. But as he grew older, he didn’t enjoy snacks as much.

Chen Xiao Mai returned the bottle to Lu Lin after he took a few sips.

Lu Lin put on a serious face and said: “Let’s keep this a secret, or else I won’t share anything with you, okay? Just don’t tell anyone about this.”

Chen Xiao Mai blinked at Lu Lin, without saying a word. Lu Lin wasn’t sure if this boy understood him or not.

Lu Lin then returned to the door plank and lay down, he racked his brain, thinking of ways to gain wealth.

What he didn’t know was that the villagers were talking about him and Chen Xiao Mi excitedly, back then there was no entertainment except gossip. The marriage between him and Chen Xiao Mi had naturally dominated the villagers’ conversation.

“The Lu’s already sent Lu Lin to Chen Xiao Mi’s place, is that right?”

“Lu Lin is a poor boy, marrying that bold Bio, gosh, who knows if that Bio will harass him or not.”

Lu Lin’s grandmother concocted a new story saying that Lu Lin refused to have relations with them after marrying Chen Xiao Mi, he attacked some family members, he even tried to steal the harvest from them.

No one believed the grandmother’s story at first, but as time passed, people started to believe in it.

Even the poor families in the village refused to get married to Chen Xiao Mi, no one expected The Lu’s, the rich family in the village to be willing to marry Lu Lin into Chen Xiao Mi’s family.

“Lu Lin’s illness is quite severe, do you think Chen Xiao Mi will call a doctor for him?”

“Probably not.”

“The Lu family, I can’t believe they’ve sent Lu Lin to Chen Xiao Mi’s place without giving Lu Lin proper treatment.”

“Ha, spending money on Lu Lin, that’s impossible!”

“Well, I guess it’s not that bad, Chen Xiao Mi is vicious, that’s true, but he’s a good hunter, Lu Lin might be able to eat meat in the future.”

Meat was a precious resource back then, especially for the villagers, most of them could only afford meat at the Spring Festival.

“Hunting is not easy, man, winter is coming, you can’t even go hunting when heavy snow covers the mountain.”

“Didn’t Lu Lin’s grandmother say he was a bad star, he would bring bad luck to his family, his parents died because he was bad luck! Why did Chen Xiao Mi marry him?”

“I don’t think Chen Xiao Mi would worry about other people’s bad luck, I heard he’s also a bad star.”

Lu Lin felt very dizzy and nauseous, he snuck back to the convenience store and took an antipyretic.

Lu Lin always worked late into the night at the store in modern times, he had prepared some general medicine for unexpected needs.

Chen Xiao Cai went out for a while at night, and he returned with a basket of firewood.

Lu Lin couldn’t help but exclaim inwardly, he was an eight-year-old boy, but he had already started contributing to the family.

Winter in ancient times was always difficult, villagers always kept as much firewood as possible, a severe frost would cause more damage than imaginable.

Chen Xiao Mai grabbed his second elder brother’s arm as soon as Chen Xiao Cai returned, the two whispered excitedly, Lu Lin did not know whether Chen Xiao Mai had betrayed him or not.

‘It’s a matter of time before I get caught by Chen Xiao Mi. Should I make a confession, we are married now.’

‘Chen Xiao Mi is a rebel in this society, he dared to offend his grandmother and uncle to protect his younger brother, I believe he is a wise man! I don’t think he will hurt me or burn me to death once he knows I am just a soul that has occupied this Lu Lin’s body. Chen Xiao Mi is different from them too, he is a Bio, but he is very strong!’

‘That’s not necessarily true, he has lived in this time and space all his life, what if…’

Lu Lin went back and forth making confession plans, and he decided to take it one step at a time, he would win Brother Chen’s heart one step at a time.
