UILS Chapter 21

Cheng Yue ended the call and immediately hailed a taxi to the location the woman had mentioned.

The taxi driver had initially intended to greet Cheng Yue, but upon seeing his grim expression, swallowed his words back.

Cheng Yue gripped his phone tightly, his forehead drenched in sweat within a moment.

As the taxi drove on, the driver glanced at Cheng Yue’s face nervously and hesitated before asking, “Are you okay?”

Cheng Yue didn’t reply; he couldn’t even speak. His throat felt blocked, making it hard to breathe.

As they neared the location, Cheng Yue’s face grew increasingly pale. When he got out of the taxi and the driver asked for the fare, Cheng Yue counted the money carefully before stepping into the large black-green building.

The Kawasaki dealership was quite large. As Cheng Yue walked in, a young man immediately approached him.

“Hello, here to look at the cars?” Bai Zhen had actually noticed Cheng Yue as soon as he entered the store.

Despite his young age, Cheng Yue was dressed in high-end items—thousands of yuan for his t-shirt, over ten thousand for his pants, and those shoes… Bai Zhen whistled quietly; those shoes weren’t even released in the country.

But what intrigued him more was that Cheng Yue was quite to his taste.

Cheng Yue frowned and bypassed him, heading directly to the counter on the left where the woman on the phone had said she’d be waiting.

“Hey, do you usually deal with cars?” Bai Zhen persisted.

Cheng Yue, irritated, pushed him aside and muttered a low “get lost.”

Bai Zhen bit back his words as a woman in a black business suit approached from the counter.

“Hello, are you Mr. Cheng Yue?”

“Yes.” Cheng Yue walked over with a sense of urgency. His speech stumbled as he said, “I… my mom…”

“The car Ms. Ke Miao ordered for you is this way.” The woman smiled and gestured slightly to lead him.

Cheng Yue pinched his palm and walked slowly toward the area.

He stopped in front of a car covered by a large black silk cloth.

“This car was specially modified according to Ms. Ke Miao’s instructions,” the woman said as she walked over to the car, quickly pulling off the black silk.

“We basically reworked the entire car. Some parts weren’t available domestically, so we had to ship the car back to Japan and received it only yesterday.”

The black silk revealed a black body with dark red graffiti, making Cheng Yue’s eyes burn.

He stood there, fighting against the intense pounding of his heart, unable to tear his gaze away from the car.

For a moment, he felt as if he were seeing his mother.

His mother smiled and called out to him, wishing him a happy birthday, then scolded him for wearing ripped jeans.

“Mr. Cheng? Mr. Cheng?” Seeing him in a daze, the woman called out twice.

Cheng Yue snapped out of it and looked at her.

The woman, seeing him looking at her, suggested, “You can try it out.”

Cheng Yue shook his numb hand and approached the car.

Seeing him get into the car, the woman smiled and remarked, “It’s quite a good car, right? We consulted Ms. Ke Miao extensively. Her suggestions were all very professional. Your mother knows a lot about cars.”

“Really?” Cheng Yue suppressed the heat in his eyes and touched the cold surface of the car.

His mother knew nothing about cars. No wonder she suddenly called him that day asking about motorcycles. He had seen her in the video, taking notes and laughing, and he had even asked if she was going to give him a motorcycle.

What had she replied back then?

It was something like…

“You little rascal.”

“You can’t ride a motorcycle before you’re of age! Don’t think I don’t know if you secretly ride it. I can find you wherever you are. If I catch you, I’ll beat…”

“Can I drive it away?” Cheng Yue asked again, his voice now hoarse.

“Ah?” The woman was momentarily stunned but quickly nodded, “Of course, but…”

Her next words were completely drowned out by the roar of the motorcycle engine.

By the time she reacted, she could only vaguely see the figure of the young man speeding out of the dealership.

Cheng Yue lowered his head and bent forward, ignoring the sound of the wind in his ears and the road ahead.

But one thought kept swirling in his mind: he wanted to catch up with his mother. He thought that if he could go a bit faster, maybe after he got off the plane that day, he could see her again and maybe hug her one more time.

Could he call her “Mom” again?

Ji Xu looked at the red light ahead and then at his watch. It had been ten minutes past the time Cheng Yue was supposed to finish school.

He had called Cheng Yue five minutes ago to let him know he might be late, but the call was never answered and eventually disconnected.

“This traffic is a mess. Our car’s wheels might as well be falling off. I’d move faster crawling on the ground,” Tang Jing complained, holding the cake and frowning.

Ji Xu watched the traffic light turn green and checked his phone again, which still had not connected, before tossing it to Tang Jing, “Keep trying.”

“It’s fine; he probably didn’t hear it,” Tang Jing said with a smile. “Cheng Yue seems rebellious, but I think he’s pretty reliable after all…”

Tang Jing’s voice was drowned out by the roar of wind outside the car.

All the cars on the street were stuck at the red light. The speed at which the dark red motorcycle had taken off made it look as though it had thrown off three of its tires.

“Whoa! That guy!” Tang Jing stuck his head out of the window, his eyes wide with shock. “This kid’s not afraid of anything, riding a violent motorcycle in the city!”

Ji Xu watched the motorcycle disappear almost instantly and felt that the rider seemed familiar.

Cheng Yue was also wearing a black t-shirt today, but almost everyone on the street seemed to be wearing black.

“Just now…” Ji Xu frowned, feeling increasingly uneasy. He was convinced that the rider was Cheng Yue.

“What’s up?”

Tang Jing, still captivated by the motorcycle, asked, “Did you see that? That bike is definitely not cheap. It’s cool! When I was younger, I always wanted to get my dad to buy me one. Now I can buy it myself…”

“Get out of the car,” Ji Xu said, narrowing his eyes and suddenly sure that the rider was definitely Cheng Yue.

“Oh, okay.” Tang Jing agreed but then realized something was wrong, “What?”

“Get out of the car.” Ji Xu pulled over to the side of the road, his face looking grim.

Tang Jing, struggling with the cake in his arms, jumped out of Ji Xu’s car and was about to ask what was wrong when he saw Ji Xu’s car speed away, leaving him hundreds of meters behind.

Tang Jing held the cake with one hand and wiped the exhaust fumes off his face with the other, but he couldn’t erase the shock from his expression.

Ji Xu was usually a very cautious driver. Ever since they nearly got hit in college, Tang Jing had never seen Ji Xu drive fast. What was happening?

Due to the high speed, Cheng Yue’s field of vision was reduced to just a point; he couldn’t see the road clearly anymore.

Cheng Yue thought that if he could go even faster, his mother would definitely be very angry and might give him a slap on the back and scold him. She might even pull his ear.

If he avoided her, she would stand there glaring at him until he obediently came over and offered his ear.

As the speed increased, Cheng Yue thought about how his mother still hadn’t found him.

Hurry up and come beat him!

This time, he definitely wouldn’t avoid it…
