Marriage Proposal

The car stopped in front of the sea of flowers. Xi Guican opened the car door and extended his hand to He Ruge. He Ruge placed his hand in the man’s outstretched palm and stepped out of the car.

The land was covered with green grass, and from last night’s rain, a few small water droplets that hadn’t evaporated yet adorned the lush green leaves.

Transplanted flowers grew up to He Ruge’s waist, their pink and white blooms connecting into a swath that swayed like drifting smoke when the wind blew.

Within the flower sea, there was a narrow path only wide enough for one person to pass through. Xi Guican walked ahead while He Ruge followed behind, their hands tightly clasped together.

The stark contrast between the dark military uniform and the picturesque flower sea seemed discordant at first. Yet, as the military boots tread upon this ground, a strange harmony emerged. Petals fell gently from the flowers, and the military boots, without hesitation, pressed them into the soil as they continued forward.

He Ruge lowered his head to look at the slightly damp path ahead, observing the footprints left by Xi Guican in the soil. Just as he remembered, those were very large footprints, and now they contained a small flower petal.

A smile unconsciously spread across his face. Like in a game, He Ruge deliberately stepped into Xi Guican’s footprints, avoiding the pink petal, thus adding his own footprint alongside Xi Guican’s.

With each step, he tread upon Xi Guican’s footprints. The wind, carrying the scent of flowers and sunshine, tousled He Ruge’s hair. He closed his eyes, relinquishing control of this journey entirely to Xi Guican.

They held hands tightly, Xi Guican walking ahead steadily and calmly, while He Ruge followed behind, trusting and at ease.

He recalled their strange journey in the game. He had followed Mr. Xi before, walking together by the seaside. At that time, the wind carried not the fragrance of flowers but the scent of the sea.

Now smaller in stature, having lost his memories of Xi Guican, He Ruge joyously stepped into Mr. Xi’s large footprints.

What had he been thinking back then?

A mythical tale.

In the story, a maiden stepped into the footprints left by a deity and bore the deity’s child.

He stepped into Mr. Xi’s footprints, and now he had a child with Xi Guican. Perhaps everything in the world is predestined long before it happens. He liked Xi Guican. Perhaps their love was also predestined. Even if they had met under different circumstances, they would still love each other.

He Ruge opened his eyes and looked at Xi Guican’s back. At that moment, Xi Guican turned around. His azure eyes held myriad emotions.

He said, “Do you remember in your game therapy, when I used to take you to kindergarten every day, and secretly listened to the classes?”

He Ruge nodded.

“I often watched a documentary on my phone. It was quite interesting, discussing various wedding customs throughout Huaxia’s history.”

Under the sunlight, Xi Guican’s azure eyes gleamed like sapphires.

Xi Guican remembered the various wedding customs he had seen in the documentary, including ghost weddings. When he saw the ghost wedding, he was profoundly shaken. At that time, He Ruge was still undergoing treatment, and his favorability rating had struggled to pass ninety.

In fact, he had already prepared himself for the possibility that He Ruge might never wake up, much like the Sleeping Beauty He Ruge once recited. However, he had kissed him before, yet He Ruge did not wake up.

At that time, he had watched the documentary in the game. He had thought that if He Ruge never woke up, he would hold a ghost wedding with him.

But these eerie and overly paranoid thoughts were unnecessary to express.

“That documentary taught me a lot. Originally, I planned to propose to you on the day of your enfeoffment ceremony. However, now I’m glad I didn’t propose back then, because interstellar proposals don’t involve kneeling and rings.”

Xi Guican lowered his gaze to He Ruge. He Ruge seemed to have a premonition of what was to come. His black eyes widened slightly, staring unwaveringly at Xi Guican.

When he saw Xi Guican take out a small box from his pocket, He Ruge covered his mouth and gasped.

The man in the black military uniform half-knelt down. The eight stars on his shoulder epaulettes swayed gently, casting a radiant golden light. A military cap adorned with a dark golden badge rested on his head.

When Xi Guican raised his head, his deep and sharp azure eyes peeked out from under the cap, but when those eyes, sharp as blades, met He Ruge’s gaze, they transformed into the expansive sea.

Sunlight fell on his azure eyes, setting them ablaze like the sea and sky in flames.

“Snap.”

The small box was opened, revealing a ring laid upon black velvet, embedded with a golden pearl—a tear shed by He Ruge long ago.

Xi Guican took out this special ring and spoke slowly, one word at a time.

He said, “In my entire life, I have never kneeled before anyone, nor have I had faith or fidelity. All the virtues in this world have nothing to do with me.”

His hand, enveloped in gloves, gently touched He Ruge’s fingertips, as if grasping a strand of light. The touch was so light, yet his expression was solemn.

“But then I met you, and when I look at you, there’s light in my eyes. If I can stay by your side forever, then my heart will never freeze.”

“Rivers flow endlessly, green mountains stretch for miles, vast galaxies shimmer, and the world’s glory cannot compare to the fortune of meeting you in this life.”

“Please give me a chance to protect you for a lifetime.”

He Ruge parted his lips, using all his strength to control his facial expression and prevent himself from becoming too emotional. He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled it, feeling his heart pounding in his chest.

After a while, He Ruge spoke, “Okay.”

Then he saw Xi Guican’s eyes soften and curve into a mature and steady expression, only to immediately break into a mischievous grin, revealing a set of tiger teeth.

He looked like a teenager and also like a cub, resembling Mr. Xi, ultimately settling on Xi Guican’s handsome and classical face.

The ring was carefully placed on the middle finger of He Ruge’s left hand by the man half-kneeling before him. Xi Guican kissed the back of He Ruge’s hand.

He had left light kisses on every inch of He Ruge’s skin before, but never had a kiss felt as fiery as this one did now, as if etching a tattoo into their memories. No matter how time passed, this memory would never fade.

The newly constructed part of the star track in the azure sky emitted a subtle light under the sunlight.

Suddenly, from the flower bushes, the immature voices of the cubs echoed out. The flowers in the flower sea towered up to He Ruge’s waist, easily concealing most of the cubs, except for Xiong Xin’s massive figure, which could only lie down.

The cubs held hands and formed a circle, enclosing He Ruge and Xi Guican in the center. They sang the interstellar wedding march, each cub adorned with a small star. Even Little Hedgehog Huahua, who loved wearing flowers, had handmade stars on them.

They were like vigorous and hopeful stars, embellishing this land scarred by war, surrounding the newlyweds with flowers, sunlight, and gentle breeze.

When He Ruge and Xi Guican embraced and kissed, the young ones consciously covered their eyes but couldn’t resist peeking through their fingers.

That spring, in the newly renovated Great Hall of the Seventeen Stars, He Ruge and Xi Guican held a wedding ceremony.

Ruanruan and Autumn Dream Valley were flower girls, and the guests were the offspring of Guican and Ruge. Petals fluttered down, and the children’s smiles were pure, like angels descending to the mortal realm.

The sky that day was clear and blue, as clear as Xi Guican’s eyes. He Ruge held Xi Guican’s hand and walked into the grand hall. They exchanged rings, stepping into the realm of marriage together.

That day, He Ruge posted a photo on the Interstellar personal platform. The photo showed two hands wearing pearl rings, one large and powerful, the other slender and fair.

He Ruge tagged Xi Guican, with a simple sentence: “Spending the rest of my life with you, please guide me.”

Xi Guican replied, “My life, with you who have the galaxy in your eyes.”

Interstellar citizens: “!!!”

Officially sweet yet incredibly lethal.

On this day, all the top searches in Interstellar were “Xi Guican and He Ruge’s Wedding”.

If half the world envied this new couple, the other half was surely jealous.

The immense power of faith surged into He Ruge’s body as he sat on their wedding bed, leaning on Xi Guican’s shoulder, laughing while scrolling through the comments.

“Look at this one, saying they want to reincarnate as our child and attend our wedding disguised as a guest.”

Xi Guican heard and stroked He Ruge’s hair lazily, wrapping his arms around He Ruge’s waist contentedly.

“And this one says I’ll marry you in the next life too, because I saved the world in this life.” Xi Guican nodded approvingly, giving that comment a like.

This netizen was Xi Guican’s staunch fan, even their ID was “Marshal Xi is the Most Handsome”.

When Xi Guican saw the fan’s reaction, he went crazy without any sense.

At this moment, however, Xi Guican did not pay attention to the lucky netizen’s reaction. He hugged He Ruge possessively and declared, “Not only in the next life will we be together, in all future lives, we’ll be together.”

He Ruge smiled and agreed.

Who kissed whom first wasn’t clear. As their bodies intertwined, snow-white wings sprouted from their shoulder blades, enveloping ambiguous gasps and endless spring colors.

At the same time, the progress bar in the game slowly reached 100%, accompanied by the game notification sound.

【Congratulations to the player for achieving “Union of Spirit and Flesh”, receiving the reward “Shared Life”. Holding hands with offspring, accompanying each other in life, sharing a bed in life and sharing a tomb in death!】

【Congratulations to the player for successfully reversing fate, receiving the reward “Child of Fortune”. From now on, the fortune of this small world will be entrusted to the two players. We hope that the players will take protecting the world as their responsibility and create a beautiful future together!】

He Ruge seemed to hear the words “protecting the world” amidst his daze.

He hugged Xi Guican’s neck, his eyes hazy, and asked, “I… I think I heard… the game notification sound…”

Xi Guican seemed dissatisfied with He Ruge’s distraction, punishingly straightening his posture and silencing him with a kiss before he could finish his sentence.

He Ruge trembled all over, even his toes couldn’t help but curl up. He closed his eyes and wholeheartedly devoted himself to this affair, casting aside the game’s notification sound.

After all, their future was still long, very long.
