WTDWPK Chapter 7

The Symptoms of a Wandering Soul

Song Yu’s small, pale mouth was slightly open, revealing a glimpse of his pink tongue. His golden-yellow eyes were frozen in a daze, as if utterly stunned by the kiss.

Fu Yuqian, feeling a surge of heat in his chest, couldn’t resist leaning in for another kiss. But Song Yu’s cat paws reflexively pressed against Fu Yuqian’s lips. His front legs stiffened as he tried to push him away, and his dazed expression instantly morphed into one of fiery anger. Furious, he let out a loud “meow” and slapped Fu Yuqian with his paws repeatedly, the swipes so fast they seemed to blur.

*You’re finished! Today will mark your demise, and this time next year, I’ll be lighting incense in your memory!*

“Yiyi, what’s wrong?” Fu Yuqian, struck and visibly aggrieved, held Song Yu’s paws with a hurt expression. “You usually love snuggling up to me, even taking the initiative to kiss me. Are you feeling unwell? Let me take a look.”

Song Yu maintained his angry glare, scrutinizing Fu Yuqian’s face. Yet, no matter how closely he examined him, he couldn’t detect anything off. Fu Yuqian’s expression was just too genuine.

Song Yu hadn’t paid much attention to his rival’s acting skills before. However, since their career paths were strikingly similar—both taking on roles of domineering CEOs or dashing school heartthrobs—he figured they were about evenly matched. Although Fu Yuqian’s fans constantly gushed about his unparalleled acting prowess, Song Yu was convinced it was just the result of overzealous fan praise.

After all, his own fans sang similar praises about him, insisting he brought every character to life.

In truth, Song Yu was too embarrassed to rewatch his own performances. *Ahem.*

Thus, he concluded that Fu Yuqian was unlikely to deceive him now.

But still, kissing a cat—just how perverted could he be?! Song Yu yanked his paws back, turned away, and leapt off the couch, deciding to ignore this weirdo for the rest of the day.

Returning to his room, he furiously rubbed his mouth with his paw, but the soft and warm sensation lingered stubbornly, frustrating him even more. He wished he could go back and give Fu Yuqian two more smacks.

After Song Yu stormed off, Fu Yuqian’s eyes lit up with a smile. He didn’t follow but instead changed into outdoor attire, disguised himself, and called out, “Yiyi, I’m heading out. Be a good boy and stay home, alright?”

He locked the door and left.

Still fuming, Song Yu wished he could storm out himself, if not for the fact that he couldn’t open the door.

Fu Yuqian arrived at a teahouse to meet a so-called master. Upon entering the private room, he paused momentarily, surprised to see how young the master was.

The man had light, curved eyebrows and clear tea-brown eyes that seemed to see through everything. His delicate, refined features exuded a calm and unassuming aura. He looked every bit the part of a reclusive expert.

The master glanced up at Fu Yuqian, studying him briefly before letting out a soft chuckle. His voice was as warm and refreshing as a mountain spring. “Congratulations, your romantic star has been awakened.”

Hearing this, Fu Yuqian immediately recognized the master’s skill. He wasn’t just all talk.

Besides, it was precisely the kind of thing Fu Yuqian liked to hear.

He gracefully sat down and began preparing tea for the master, his movements reflecting his impeccable upbringing. After pouring the master a cup, Fu Yuqian spoke, “Master, I’d like to ask for your guidance regarding my friend—and my cat.”

“There’s no need to call me Master; just call me Jia Ye,” the man replied, sipping his tea with a faint smile. “A friend, you say?”

Fu Yuqian smiled knowingly. “Thanks to your auspicious words.”

After tea and some light snacks, Fu Yuqian received a message from Ying Qi, informing him that Song Yu had been transferred to a new hospital. There seemed to be a great deal of trust placed in Sheng’an Hospital, as there were no other people from the company present.

Fu Yuqian frowned, once again feeling disheartened by the coldness of the entertainment company. Had Song Yu endured such neglect for the past three years?

Driving Jia Ye himself, they headed to Sheng’an Hospital, where Ying Qi personally came to greet them. Dressed in a well-tailored white coat, the tall man—well over six feet—revealed a strikingly handsome face above his mask, with thick brows and bright eyes. Upon seeing Jia Ye, Ying Qi’s eyes sparkled. “This little brother looks awfully familiar.”

Fu Yuqian gave him a playful punch. “This is the master I invited. If you dare disrespect him, don’t blame me for teaching you a lesson.”

Ying Qi raised his hands in mock surrender, motioning for silence before leading them inside. Along the way, he updated Fu Yuqian on Song Yu’s condition. “The diagnostic results from the First People’s Hospital matched ours. Conservative treatment is an option, but the fact that he hasn’t woken up is indeed puzzling. Honestly, I’ve reviewed the MRI results over a dozen times and can’t pinpoint the cause.”

*Of course, that’s because the real Song Yu is currently at my house,* Fu Yuqian thought to himself.

They soon reached the ward. The moment Jia Ye saw Song Yu lying in bed, a thoughtful look crossed his eyes. Removing a string of reddish-brown beads from his wrist, he began turning the beads with his fingers while chanting softly with his eyes closed.

Ying Qi, a Western-trained doctor who had studied abroad, found his worldview thoroughly shaken by this scene. Nudging Fu Yuqian in the ribs, he whispered, “Hey, Yuqian, is this some kind of ritual?”

“Silence,” Fu Yuqian whispered back.

Ying Qi immediately fell quiet.

Jia Ye chanted for quite some time before finally opening his eyes. Replacing the beads on his wrist, he turned to speak. But before he could, Fu Yuqian promptly pushed Ying Qi out of the room and asked, “Jia Ye, how is Song Yu?”

“It is indeed a case of the *wandering soul syndrome*,” Jia Ye said. “I just attempted to call his soul back, but I was unsuccessful. You know where his soul currently resides.”

“Yes, I had my suspicions earlier. That’s why I’d like to invite you to my home to check on the cat I’ve been raising.”

Jia Ye agreed. “Alright.”

Fu Yuqian walked to Song Yu’s bedside, gently held his slightly cool fingers, and stroked them tenderly. In a low voice, he said, “I’ll make sure you recover.”

Just as they stepped out of the hospital room, they encountered a middle-aged woman approaching. Her expression was a mix of sorrow and urgency as she came directly toward them. “Excuse me, is this Xiao Yu’s room?”

“Ma’am, are you Song Yu’s mother?” Ying Qi asked.

“Yes, I am.” Mrs. Song was slender and looked unwell, though traces of her former beauty were evident. Song Yu resembled her by about seventy to eighty percent. “I saw the news on Weibo and took an overnight train to get here. Doctor, how is my son?”

“He isn’t seriously injured, but he hasn’t regained consciousness yet,” Ying Qi quickly reassured her. “Don’t worry, ma’am. I’ve just contacted foreign specialists to consult on his case. We’ll do everything we can to ensure he recovers.”

Only then did Mrs. Song relax, though her eyes reddened slightly. “Thank you so much.” She turned her gaze to Fu Yuqian and Jia Ye, looking puzzled. “And you are?”

Fu Yuqian suddenly felt nervous, his palms sweating. Bowing slightly, he greeted her. “Hello, Auntie. I’m Song Yu’s friend. I came to visit him.”

“Good, good child.” Mrs. Song patted Fu Yuqian’s arm warmly. “I’ll go see Xiao Yu first. You all go ahead with what you were doing.”

Ying Qi immediately offered, “Ma’am, let me take you there.”

Fu Yuqian let out a quiet sigh of relief. *I didn’t make a bad impression on her, did I?*

Jia Ye watched with an amused expression but said nothing.

Fu Yuqian wanted to comfort Mrs. Song further, but the timing wasn’t right. Now that she had arrived, he felt obligated to make proper arrangements for her. From what he knew, Song Yu’s villa was quite far from the hospital. He happened to have a property nearby, but outright gifting her a place to stay would seem overly eager. Then he remembered that Ying Qi’s hospital had rooms for family members to stay in. He decided to rent one for Mrs. Song.

Having finalized the plan in his mind, he called Ying Qi to make arrangements before driving Jia Ye back to his home.

On the way, Fu Yuqian explained his suspicions and earnestly requested Jia Ye not to reveal his identity as a master. “Just pretend to be a friend. I teased the little guy earlier, and I’m terrified that if Song Yu finds out the truth, he’ll never forgive me.”

Jia Ye nodded. “Don’t worry.”

At home, Fu Yuqian first inspected the sofa and carpet to ensure no new “maps” had been added, then invited Jia Ye to sit on the couch before setting off to find Song Yu.

Song Yu lay sprawled at the top of the cat tree, looking down at Fu Yuqian from above. *Hmph. You dare come back, servant?*

Fu Yuqian stood tall, dressed in a tailored light-blue sweater and black jeans. His long legs were straight and strong, complementing his strikingly handsome mixed-race features. Anyone else would be utterly captivated by his appearance. But not Song Yu. To him, Fu Yuqian’s looks were utterly useless. If it weren’t for the fear of being sent to a research lab, he would have revealed his identity on the spot just to scare the living daylights out of him.

*Do you even realize? The one you kissed wasn’t a cat—it was a man. And not just any man, but your sworn rival!*

*So tell me, are you scared now? Grossed out?*

Fu Yuqian apologized, “Yi Yi, what did I do wrong? I’ll change, I promise. Don’t ignore me. We have guests at home. Let’s go greet them, okay?”

Originally aloof and unwilling to meet anyone, Song Yu suddenly thought, could this be Fu Yuqian’s girlfriend? He had to go see which girl it was!

“Meow.” Song Yu jumped down, bypassed Fu Yuqian, and walked out.

However, once downstairs, he was surprised to find a very handsome man, whose presence immediately caught Song Yu’s attention, almost as if a grand seafood feast had been laid before him. Song Yu quickly ran over, rubbed against his pants, and looked up at him, marveling at how such a handsome person could even exist.

Fu Yuqian, trailing behind, looked dark and sour, like a vinegar jar had been knocked over.

Jia Ye picked Song Yu up, and Song Yu felt even more comfortable in his arms. Instinctively, he turned over, revealing his soft little belly. Jia Ye, seeing this, indulged him and gently squeezed it, enjoying the soft feeling.

Song Yu mewed contentedly, but suddenly a wave of sleepiness washed over him. He dozed off almost instantly in Jia Ye’s arms.

Fu Yuqian walked over and took Song Yu from Jia Ye, his tone dripping with sourness. “He sure likes you.”

Song Yu was sleeping soundly, but his paws instinctively reached toward Jia Ye.

“Right now, his soul has left his body and entered the cat. His soul is slightly damaged, so naturally, he feels close to me,” Jia Ye explained with a smile. He took off the beaded bracelet from his wrist, untied the string, and gave one bead to Fu Yuqian. “This bracelet has been with me for over a decade and has a calming effect. You can put it around his neck.”

“Can’t he return to his body?” Fu Yuqian quickly caught the key point.

Jia Ye nodded. “Yes, but the timing isn’t right. If we force him back, his soul might be further damaged, and he may never recover.”

Fu Yuqian wasn’t sure whether to feel relieved or regretful after hearing this. “How long will it take?”

“That depends on fate,” Jia Ye answered.

“I understand. Thank you, Master Jia Ye.” Fu Yuqian said, then asked, “What about Yi Yi’s soul? Where did it go?”

Thank goodness, Yi Yi finally felt like he had a presence with Fu Yuqian.

“It’s still in his body, but in a dormant state. When Song Yu’s soul leaves, his will naturally awaken,” Jia Ye explained. He then pulled out his phone and showed Fu Yuqian a QR code. “Alright, a hundred thousand, please.”

Such a high person, even when doing business, managed to retain an air of grace.

Fu Yuqian took out his phone and paid. Jia Ye politely declined Fu Yuqian’s offer to drive him home, saying he had already called a driver.

After getting into the car, Jia Ye suddenly remembered something. He hadn’t looked closely before, but the orange cat seemed to have a special connection with Song Yu. It might wake up sooner than expected, though that wasn’t a big issue.

What Jia Ye didn’t realize was that his oversight would lead to Fu Yuqian’s mishap.
