WILTHAUCS Chapter 9

Gao Shi: You're the f*cking so called ghosts?

Gao Shi knows that he is dreaming.

It was a dream he had had thousands of times before he was ten years old, a recurring dream that happened whenever he fell asleep.

Now, he stood in emptiness and looked down.

Seeing Gao Gusheng.

Or rather, the “protagonist” of the dream.

It was after Gao Gusheng was forced to have a relationship with Wen Liang.

……

Gao Gu Sheng’s spirit is diminished; heavy bangs cover his eyes, but he cannot cover the dark circles underneath.

He hadn’t had a good night’s sleep for a long time.

Ever since he had a relationship with Wen Liang, not only had his peaceful life been shattered, but he had also discovered that there seemed to be a lot more eyes on him in the shadows.

At first, he thought that this was the malice of Wen Liang’s admirers.

But soon, he realized that these gazes contained not just malice, but also lust.

It was a kind of lust that was no different from when Wen Liang looked at him.

“They” were looking at him.

But he doesn’t know who “they” are.

When he went to the orphanage, “they” look at him.

In class, “they” look at him.

When he was locked in the toilet by Wen Liang’s admirer, “they” looked at him.

Even when he was alone, “they” were watching him.

They are everywhere.

The little child from the orphanage suddenly grew huge mouths with non-human teeth.

From the air conditioner vents, crimson eyes stared out.

Ethereal singing echoed from the toilet holes.

By day, he endured endless harassment from Wen Liang’s admirers; by night, he was lost in eternal darkness.

His spirit continued to deteriorate.

The unknown things came closer and closer to him and even began trying to touch him.

Finally, one day, in the dorms.

His roommates had either gone on a date or out for the day, and he was the only one left in the room.

Late at night, he inexplicably woke up, felt the tension from his belly, hesitated, but still rolled out of bed and went to the washroom.

The dormitory building was old and lacked toilets in the rooms, so he had to use the communal one in the hallway.

He walked alone in the long, silent corridor, which echoed with the sound of his footsteps.

“(Snap.)”

“(Snap.)”

The feeling of being spied on came back.

The lights were out in the dormitory building, and only the dim moonlight illuminated the small open space in front of him.

In the unreadable shadows, it seemed as if countless human figures were crowded in.

“They” were looking at him.

Gao Gusheng’s heart tightened, and he quickened his steps.

But the corridor he was used to walking through every night now seemed endlessly long.

Accidentally glancing at the doorway of the dormitory on one side, the door numbers are dark red, in the moonlight. Like dried blood.

207……

Gao Gusheng’s heart jumped.

Isn’t this, my dorm?

Walking in circles?

At the very moment, he realized it, it was as if those dark things had also finally given up teasing him and struggled out of the shadows.

He ran wildly in fear, but it was as if he was stepping in the air; the scenery around him didn’t move at all.

The corridor grew colder and colder, cold as winter when it was clearly the middle of summer.

The cold air penetrated everywhere, and wearing only a thin, short-sleeved shirt, his body began to stiffen, almost freezing to death in the corridor.

Something colder than snowflakes touched his skin, taking on shapes eerily similar to human hands, numerous and all over.

He bit his lips hard, using the pain to keep himself awake.

“Is anyone there? Help! Help!”

“Help—”

“Help—”

He squeezed the cry for help from his throat. His slightly shaky voice wafted through the corridor, but no one responded.

The bedrooms on both sides of the room were silent and dark, like walking through a morgue.

His body began to go numb as more and more hands grabbed him.

Gritting his teeth, he turned and dashed towards the dormitory.

He could move again!

He plunged into the dorm, slamming the door shut behind him, and the chill on his body melted away as frost before the blazing sun.

He crawled under the covers, turning on the bedside lamp.

The blanket felt like a warm barrier, and he clung to the small bedside lamp as if it were a lifeline, shivering.

For him, daylight meant endless humiliation and torment, but this time, he had never longed for the dawn as much as he did today.

The summer night was stifling and hot, the ceiling fan above him turned lazily, its creaking sound like the groans of the dying.

He lay under the blanket, sweating profusely.

Sweat dripped into his eyes, but he didn’t dare to lift the blanket and could only pray that the sky would lighten soon.

Didn’t know how long it has been, but there was some light outside the blanket.

He tried to turn off the bedside lamp, and sure enough, the outside seemed a little brighter.

He carefully lifted a corner of the blanket, and a ray of light shone in.

It’s dawn!

He was bursting with joy and lifted the covers.

But the surroundings were still dark. Only in front of him stood a dark human figure.

What was glowing light, was his eyes.

He froze in place, watching the black figure’s mouth slowly crack open.

“I Found you.”

……

“Captain!”

“Holy god, boss, you’re finally awake! How is it? Anywhere uncomfortable?”

“Captain, don’t rush; drink some sugar water first.”

The team helped Gao Shi up from the sofa. He propped up his forehead as if he could still hear Gao Gusheng’s helpless pleas in the dream world.

[Anyone? Help! Help!!!]

He gulped down a quilt of sugar water and suppressed his fire.

“I’m fine.”

Gao Shi took a deep breath. “Something might have happened on Lele’s side. I have to go back. Call me if anything happens.”

Saying that he had already gotten into the driver’s seat.

“Captain – are you okay now? I can drive you-!”

Chang Yang’s voice failed to catch up with the trailing exhaust of Gao Shi’s car.

They looked at each other.

Chang Yang touched his nose, “It looks like the captain is angry, I wonder what he dreamed this time.”

Ran Qiu, still feeling the aftereffects of fear, put away the glucose, “I feel like the captain could take on ten of me right now.”

Chang Yang coughed, “I wonder who will have the ‘honor’ of being the captain’s sparring partner.”

“Should we call an ambulance in advance?”

“What are you talking about? Look at the captain’s lively appearance; does he look like someone who needs an ambulance?”

“No, I mean …… Should we call one for the criminal captain who went to arrest?”

***

Just after that dream, night had fallen.

The night in City B remained bustling, with various lights casting the darkness into something as bright as day.

The villa where Gao Gusheng lived, however, was pitch black.

Gao Oath frowned tightly and walked into the front door.

It was obviously the height of summer, but as soon as he entered the door, he felt a special kind of coldness. The cold air drilled straight into his bones.

Thinking of the scene in the dream, the fire that the cup of sugar water had pressed down flared up again.

He walked to Gao Gusheng’s room door in big strides and knocked on it, there was no sound from inside.

When Gao Shi was not around, Gao Gusheng’s sleep was very light; he would wake up at the slightest noise, making it impossible for him not to hear something.

Gao Shi pulled at the door and found it locked inside.

Frowning, he didn’t bother to look for the keys. Stepping back, and kicked the door forcefully.

The doors of the entire villa were specially customized and of very high quality, yet Gao Shi kicked them open with one foot.

The room was silent, and Gao Gusheng lay in bed with his eyes closed, appearing to be asleep.

But Gao Shi could feel that things were crowded together within the room, and there was something else present.

These entities, like flowing black mist, filled the entire room.

Gao Shi held his bullied son in his arms. His body was shockingly cold. Only the slight rise and fall of his chest proved he was still alive.

Gao Shi’s heart sank. He bit his finger and smeared blood on Gao Gusheng’s forehead.

The moment his finger was bitten, it seemed as if a scream echoed through the air, and the invisible entities scared off, creating a vacuum around Gao Shi and Gao Gusheng.

Blood touched Gao Gusheng’s forehead, and as if burned by the blood. He moved slightly, and his body temperature gradually rose.

Gao Shi stroked his head and gently laid him back on the bed.

He pulled out the cigarette case from his pocket, then took one out and lit it.

The blood-stained fingers left weird red patterns on the cigarette.

Gao Shi lowered his head, took a drag, and slowly exhaled.

This mouthful of smoke, however, did not dissipate and filled the room. Where the smoke passed, faint humanoid outlines appeared.

There was one that was vaguely overlapping with Gao Gusheng.

Gao Shi let out a cold smile, and with a stretch of his hand, he actually peeled that humanoid thing off of Gao Gusheng’s body!

The humanoid figure let out a scream, in disbelief as to why this person in front of him could even touch itself.

Gao Shi clenched a cigarette stub between his teeth, one hand holding a humanoid head, and with his other fist, he smashed down forcefully!

“Little brat, dare to touch my son?”

This was the Gao Shi that could kick a solid wooden door.

With just one punch, the figure already dimmed a lot.

The figure emitted a piercing scream again, and the humanoid shadows drawn out by the smoke fled in disarray.

However, the blood-tinged smoke was like a cage, trapping all the black shadows in this room.

The room that they once eagerly invaded had now become a despairing prison from which they could not escape.

Gao Shi punched again and again, and the black shadow he caught in his hand became lighter in color, almost disappearing into the air.

Again, it let out a scream, this time with a little more urgency, as if urging the surrounding black shadows to fight back together.

The desperate black shadows looked like they had reached an agreement in the blink of an eye, surging toward Gao Shi like a black wave!

However, in the next second, all the black shadows were shaken away, and a few of the black shadows that came into direct contact with Gao Shi left behind a tragic scream and disappeared in mid-air.

Gao SHi’s body emitted a golden light that could not be seen by the human eye. The golden light was so rich that it was almost blinding. The black shadows were like vampires placed in the sunlight, screaming and melting as they declined.

Gao Shi gave out a low laugh.

This laugh, like that of a death-summoning evil spirit, made even the ghosts’ hairs stand on end.

Gao Shi was the favorite police officer of the entire Spirit Management Office.

The Taoist Kong Miao, years ago, divined his fortune and penned sixteen characters for him:

[Born under a fully Yang horoscope, virtue accompanies him.]

[Ghosts and gods do not approach, evil spirits do not invade.]

Gao Shi looked at the black shadows huddling together and let out a sardonic laugh.

“Now, it’s my turn.”
