SSEWC Chapter 21

Domineering Alpha CEO

In the early morning, sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains at the center of the French windows, casting a warm glow on the reddish-brown hardwood floor.

The vibrating phone on the bedside table disturbed He Heng from his slumber.

Today was a workday, and he still needed to go to the office.

However, as He Heng was about to lift his arm, he sensed that something was off. Nestled on his arm was the plush head of an Omega, still deep in sleep but emanating a scalding warmth in his embrace.

The temperature of Shi Shuang was indeed unusually high, and holding him felt like cradling a warm furnace.

As He Heng sensed that something was amiss, he immediately lowered his head and looked down.

Shi Shuang’s eyes were tightly shut, his eyebrows furrowed, and an abnormal flush adorned his face. Even in the midst of slumber, he appeared to be in discomfort.

He Heng reached out and touched Shi Shuang’s forehead, feeling the abnormal heat.

“Shuang Shuang, wake up.”

He gently nudged Shi Shuang’s shoulder, trying to rouse him.

“Mmm~” Shi Shuang groaned uncomfortably, his eyelids trembling slightly but still not fully awake. He subconsciously reached out and clutched He Heng’s arm, snuggling closer to him.

He Heng called his name a couple more times, and finally, the Omega groggily woke up.

Shi Shuang blinked, and a golden glimmer cascaded onto his fair face. The Omega’s gaze seemed somewhat vacant, with amber-colored eyes lacking focus, resembling a confused puppy.

He Heng had just finished sending a message to his private doctor when he noticed Shi Shuang finally waking up. Putting down his phone, he looked at him and said:

“It seems like you have a fever. Get up and have something to eat. I’ll have the doctor come over to check on you.”

Shi Shuang was still not fully awake, and in response to He Heng’s words, he instinctively murmured a few “Mmm” sounds.

After saying this, Shi Shuang’s head remained nestled in the soft pillow, showing no intention of moving.

“Feeling uncomfortable?”

Observing the Omega’s ailing appearance, He Heng gently touched his cheek with the back of his hand and whispered, “The doctor will be here soon to take a look.”

Having said that, he turned around, preparing to press the communicator on the bedside table. However, his cuff was suddenly grabbed by someone just as the servants downstairs were bringing up hot water and food.

He Heng turned around, only to see the Omega lifting his eyes and tilting his head to look at him, a reddish tint around his eye sockets.

At this moment, it seemed that Shi Shuang had finally come to his senses. He reached out, rubbed his eyes, and softly muttered to the Alpha, “Uncomfortable.”

With that, the Omega curled up beside He Heng, looking pitiful. This appearance couldn’t help but make He Heng feel a surge of distress. Considering his earlier touch to Shi Shuang’s forehead, he estimated that the fever was quite high based on his past experiences.

As for why Shi Shuang had a fever, He Heng’s initial reaction was related to the compulsory fever-inducing agent injected the previous night. After all, 996 had warned him about its significant side effects.

However, He Heng wasn’t a doctor, and at the moment, he couldn’t be entirely certain that the fever was solely due to this injection. Even if it were the case, looking at the pitiable state of Shi Shuang, He Heng couldn’t bring himself to say anything harsh.

“The doctor will be here soon.”

With that in mind, he settled back, pulling Shi Shuang into his embrace and patting his back gently, cooing, “If it’s uncomfortable, just sleep a little longer.”

About half an hour later, He Heng’s private doctor arrived at his villa.

The doctor first took out a thermometer to measure Shi Shuang’s temperature. Upon seeing the reading of 39.1 degrees, He Heng furrowed his brow and asked the doctor, “Why is it so high?”

He Heng’s private doctor was an older beta, always appearing slow and genteel. Hearing this, he took out his examination tools and calmly explained, “Normally, the designated dosage shouldn’t cause a high fever unless there has been some improper administration or the use of unconventional medications midway. So, I’ll need more information to make further assessments.”

“Mr. Shi, did you experience any discomfort or symptoms before the marking last night? Or have you taken any special medications?”

Upon hearing this question, the Omega turned slightly, burying his head behind He Heng, avoiding direct eye contact. He seemed a bit guilty, afraid that He Heng might interrogate him as aggressively as he did last night.

Observing Shi Shuang’s behavior, appearing like a child afraid of getting sick and taking medicine, He Heng found it both amusing and helpless. He pulled Shi Shuang out from behind him and pinched his earlobe.

“Listen, I’m not angry.”

“Okay,” Shi Shuang nodded obediently, his head drooping.

“Cough, cough.”

The doctor standing on the side coughed twice, trying to disguise his awkwardness. At this moment, he felt like a giant light bulb shining brightly, perhaps even a hundred thousand volts.

After learning about the medication Shi Shuang had been injected with last night and conducting some basic diagnostic tests, the doctor came to a conclusion. Shi Shuang’s fever was indeed caused by the compulsory fever-inducing agent, and this injection had significant side effects. It could potentially lead to disruptions in Omega pheromones, an early or delayed heat cycle, and other related issues.

In addition to Shi Shuang’s already delicate health, the doctor emphasized repeatedly that he should never haphazardly use medications in the future. After prescribing some fever-reducing and symptom-relieving medications for the Omega, the doctor left.

He Heng accompanied him to the bedroom door. Taking advantage of the moment when He Heng closed the door, Shi Shuang cautiously observed He Heng’s expression. Before He Heng could fully turn around, Shi Shuang preemptively embraced him.

Leaning weakly against He Heng, Shi Shuang nuzzled his head against He Heng’s arm and softly said, “I’ll be good in the future. I won’t use such things again. Please don’t be angry.”

The other’s black hair was very soft, brushing against the arm with a slightly ticklish sensation, like an affectionate dog seeking attention, making one’s heart itch.

Upon hearing Shi Shuang’s words, He Heng quirked a smile, turned around, and lifted Shi Shuang by the knees, carrying him horizontally toward the big bed.

As his body suddenly felt weightless, Shi Shuang’s pupils trembled for a moment. Then, he instinctively reached out his arms to hug He Heng’s neck. Nestling against the man’s chest, his warm breath brushed against He Heng’s neck.

He Heng placed Shi Shuang on the soft mattress, kissed his still-warm cheek, and took the tray brought by the servant. “After freshening up, eat something first, and then take your medicine.”

“Alright.”

Shi Shuang sank into the soft mattress, fingertips clutching the collar of He Heng’s shirt. He buried his face in He Heng’s chest, then sneakily glanced at the wall clock. Only then did he realize it was almost 8:20.

“I’ll get up right away. It’s almost 8:30. Aren’t you supposed to go to work?”

Although Shi Shuang remembered that today was Monday, and He Heng had to go to the office, his body’s response was quite honest. He remained snuggled in He Heng’s arms like an affectionate puppy, reluctant to move.

Seeing this, He Heng chuckled softly. “Not going.”

Having just marked each other the previous day, Shi Shuang’s pheromones hadn’t fully stabilized yet, and the heat cycle hadn’t completely passed. Additionally, he was currently running a fever. He Heng couldn’t possibly leave for the office and leave him alone.

“Hmm?”

Upon hearing He Heng’s response, Shi Shuang felt a bit unreal, not fully processing it at once.

“Working from home today,” He Heng ruffled his hair, “to accompany you.”

“Oh.” Omega’s tone lifted slightly, revealing uncontrollable joy. He snuggled into He Heng’s arms once again.

Since Shi Shuang couldn’t take fever-reducing medication on an empty stomach, after freshening up, He Heng pulled him up, had him drink some water, and had him eat a little something to fill his stomach.

The fever-reducing medicine prescribed by the doctor took effect quickly, and within half an hour, the fever subsided. However, the side effects kicked in at the same time.

Shi Shuang, the whole person, seemed a bit drowsy.

He struggled to prop his head against the headboard, eyelids fluttering. He appeared extremely tired, trying to fight off sleep.

Seeing Shi Shuang in this clearly exhausted yet stubborn state, He Heng chuckled. Then, he had his computer and office supplies brought into the room.

The bedroom was spacious, with a huge floor-to-ceiling window serving as a convenient workspace with a desk and bookshelves.

After arranging everything, He Heng walked to the bedside, tucked Shi Shuang into the covers, and watched as Shi Shuang, in a drowsy state, was about to close his eyes. He gently brushed the back of his hand against Omega’s cheek.

“Be good. Sleep. I’ll be right here.”

“Okay.”

Shi Shuang softly replied and finally couldn’t resist closing his eyes.

Before long, the bed was filled with the steady and even sound of Shi Shuang’s breathing as he peacefully drifted into sleep. Seeing Shi Shuang sleeping soundly, He Heng opened his computer and focused on handling his work.

The vast room seemed particularly quiet, with only the rhythmic ticking of the clock on the wall and the sound of keystrokes on the keyboard.

Time flew by quickly as He Heng immersed himself in work. Unbeknownst to him, three hours had passed. He had made several important decisions and, coincidentally, it was also time for the company employees’ lunch break. He closed his computer, temporarily setting aside his work, and rubbed his nose.

“Um~”

At that moment, he suddenly heard a soft sigh coming from the person on the bed, lost in dreams. Following the sound was the gradual spread of a strawberry-scented pheromone.

Seeing this, He Heng got up and walked towards the bed.

“What’s wrong?”

After getting a clear look at Omega’s appearance, He Heng was momentarily stunned.

Shi Shuang seemed to be awake, half-opening his eyes with long lashes that looked damp. The amber-colored pupils were veiled with a layer of mist. The fair skin had a tempting hint of pale pink. His back arched in a u-shaped curve, and his fingertips were tightly clenched due to discomfort.

A increasingly rich strawberry scent lingered in the air.

It was then that He Heng suddenly realized that Shi Shuang’s heat cycle seemed not to have passed yet.

In the next moment, the person on the bed lightly bit his lower lip and cast a pleading look toward He Heng.

Seeing this, He Heng’s breath hitched, and he walked towards the bedside.

As soon as he sat on the edge of the bed, Omega leaned into his arms.

The thin blanket that had covered Shi Shuang slipped off his shoulders, and he was wearing He Heng’s oversized T-shirt. The T-shirt was a bit too large for him, loosely hanging on his body, revealing the fair and rounded shoulders of the Omega.

He Heng naturally pulled him into his embrace.

Having just woken up, Shi Shuang’s entire body felt warm. Through the thin layer of clothing, He Heng could distinctly feel the soft and delicate waistline, along with the warm sensation.

During the heat cycle, an Omega was like a clingy puppy, cuddling with the Alpha and whining uncomfortably. Shi Shuang’s loose T-shirt revealed his long and slender legs, which were now somewhat awkwardly resting at He Heng’s side.

He Heng’s eyes darkened slightly, applying a bit more pressure to the Omega’s hand. His heated breath sprayed against the side of Shi Shuang’s neck, and his sharp canines subconsciously touched the Omega’s gland.

“Um~”

The Omega let out a soft gasp. Sensing the obvious change in He Heng’s demeanor, Shi Shuang slightly parted his thin lips. He then reached out, hooking his hand around the Alpha’s neck, and with narrowed eyes, he whispered in a breathy tone near He Heng’s ear:

“This time, can you be a bit gentler?”

After they had dinner, the sky had already darkened. He Heng had finished his work-related tasks, and he had rare free time. So, he decided to bring the Omega to the entertainment room on the third floor.

The entertainment room was equipped with a comprehensive set of projection, audio, and soundproofing devices, providing a movie-watching experience comparable to a regular cinema.

Choosing a movie at random, the two of them settled on a sofa to watch it together.

He Heng hugged Shi Shuang from behind, resting his head in the soft nape of Shi Shuang’s neck. He casually pulled a blanket from the sofa to cover both of them. It must be said that cuddling with the Omega felt more comfortable than hugging a pillow.

They chose an artful romantic film, with a slow-paced narrative depicting the story of the main characters from childhood acquaintances to later lovers. It was like strolling along a sandy beach with a gentle sea breeze during a hot summer day, leaving behind numerous footprints of varying depths. In the end, these imprints were all smoothed away by the sea.

Halfway through the movie, the characters in the story held their wedding, witnessed by relatives and friends. They stood on a green lawn, with a pure white altar behind them. The scene of their vows was beautifully shot.

This kind of art film wasn’t He Heng’s preferred genre, so he found himself a bit drowsy throughout.

At that moment, he suddenly heard a soft voice from the person in his arms saying, “You mentioned having a wedding before. Is that still a plan?”

“Yeah,” He Heng responded. Subconsciously, he curled his lips into a smile, then leaned down to kiss Shi Shuang’s ear.

“How about we have a wedding after the competition is over?”

“Alright.”

He Heng almost instantly agreed, and his voice sounded genuinely delighted as he continued, “You can invite anyone you want when the time comes.”

Hearing this, Shi Shuang lowered his head in thought. It seemed that, apart from his sister, there wasn’t anyone he particularly wanted to invite. As for Shi Shaowen…

“Including that beta is fine.”

The next moment, the teasing tone of the other person echoed in his ear, and the expression looked quite magnanimous.

Shi Shuang felt extremely helpless and nudged He Heng with his arm, indicating that he should stop teasing. He and Li Jingze had absolutely no relationship, and He Heng seemed to bring it up just for the sake of it.

However, He Heng genuinely didn’t mind. Like any couple in the honeymoon phase, he just wanted to stick to his partner. He wished to have the whole world attend their wedding, declaring his sovereignty.

A few days later,

Shi Shaowen sat in his old apartment, his gaze complex as he stared at the wedding invitation on the table, sent to him by Shi Shuang.

This was the first time Shi Shuang had actively contacted him in the past three or four years.

Shi Shaowen didn’t understand why they suddenly decided to have a wedding now. After all, He Heng wasn’t particularly advantageous in the business world of City A. However, He Heng was more cunning and ruthless than a fox, and there seemed to be no limits to his schemes. Even though Shi Shaowen didn’t know what he was planning, he was sure the wedding was ultimately He Heng’s idea.

In these past three or four years, even though Shi Shuang had never complained to him, Shi Shaowen knew his son wasn’t leading a good life with He Heng.

As one grows older, they become more sentimental, and Shi Shaowen often regretted his decision to marry his son to that Alpha.

However, the moment Shi Shaowen opened the photo album, he suddenly froze. He distinctly saw the uncontainable smile at the corner of Shi Shuang’s mouth in the center of the invitation.

In his memory, Shi Shuang rarely smiled and seldom showed any strong emotions towards him.

He still remembered when Shi Shuang was ten years old, playing in the garden with Shi Mu.

His sister, being playful, climbed to a high window, but she lost her grip and fell. Shi Shuang, who was nearby, quickly reached out to catch her, and they both ended up falling into the bushes together.

Shi Mu was protected by his older brother and didn’t suffer any injuries, but Shi Shuang’s lower leg up to the knee was scratched by the branches, leaving a long cut. It was bleeding profusely at the time.

Normal children at his age would cry and seek comfort from their parents, expressing their grievances and pain. However, Shi Shuang calmly walked to the side of the garden’s stone path and had the housekeeper call a doctor. At the same time, he comforted his terrified sister who was crying loudly.

The wound on his leg looked gruesome at the time, and it should have been extremely painful.

At that age where one would shout when in pain and cry when sad, Shi Shuang, however, remained calm, sitting there enduring it all without once casting a seeking gaze for help in his direction.

His guilt towards his eldest son, Shi Shuang, was ever-present. Sometimes, people only reflect on their past when they reach old age.

During Shi Shuang’s childhood, Shi Shaowen had never fulfilled the responsibilities of being a father. When Shi Shuang was just born, his mother was still in the breastfeeding stage, and Shi Shaowen was busy engaging with women outside.

From elementary school to university, Shi Shuang had never seen his father attend any parent-teacher meetings. Anyway, such matters were utterly unimportant to him.

After their mother’s death, Shi Shaowen left the children in the care of the elderly and household servants.

Initially pleased when Shi Shuang displayed remarkable talent in piano playing, Shi Shaowen saw it as something prestigious in high society. He believed that Shi Shuang would inevitably grow into an outstanding Alpha and inherit the family business. However, no one anticipated that, at the age of eighteen, Shi Shuang would present as an Omega, shattering Shi Shaowen’s dreams of the perfect heir.

So, with a trace of lingering guilt, Shi Shaowen handed him over to the emerging figure in the business world, He Heng. He helplessly watched as Shi Shuang entered a two-year nightmare, deprived of any freedom.

Now, with age catching up to him, Shi Shaowen reflects on the past and feels a deep sense of guilt. He contemplates how to make amends for everything.

Yet, as a father, over these past twenty-something years, Shi Shaowen’s absence in Shi Shuang’s life and the harm he caused him feel like an endless abyss, far from something that can be filled overnight.

Especially since the moment he treated him as a tool for a political marriage, marrying him off to He Heng, the relationship between father and son plunged into an abyss that seemed impossible to mend.

So, when he received this invitation today, he couldn’t help but show such surprise. Perhaps this signifies that the other party is no longer resisting communication as before. Maybe it could be an opportunity to mend past shortcomings, a new beginning.

Just then, a knock echoed through the room. Shi Shaowen furrowed his brows, feeling a bit puzzled, as he rarely had visitors.

“Who is it?” Hesitating for a second, he walked over and opened the door.

In front of him stood a person with a gleaming forehead illuminated by the light. As Shi Shaowen’s gaze gradually lowered, he finally recognized the visitor’s face.

Oh, it turned out to be Huo Jia, once his biggest business competitor and the third generation managing the gaming industry in his family. Shi Shaowen hadn’t expected that, after a few years, the other party’s hairline seemed to be receding as fast as his company’s performance was declining.

As the saying goes, “No discord, no concord.”

Huo Jia looked at Shi Shaowen, who, despite marrying his son to his biggest competitor, Huo Jia’s rival, was now living in this shabby house. Meanwhile, Shi Shaowen observed Huo Jia, whose receding hairline seemed beyond the help of any advanced technology.

The two of them stared at each other in silence.

“Are you not going to invite me in?” Huo Jia smiled at Shi Shaowen, breaking the silence.

Shi Shaowen never liked Huo Jia before, and meeting him now only worsened his mood. “What brings you here all of a sudden?”

Shi Shaowen wondered if Huo Jia was trying to sell him hair growth tonic or something.

“I heard that your son is about to have a wedding with He Heng.” Huo Jia, quite familiar, casually walked into the room with his hand resting on the door. “I came to congratulate you, of course.”

At these words, Shi Shaowen looked at him suspiciously, furrowing his brows.

With Huo Jia’s cunning appearance, he seemed like a fox congratulating a chicken—definitely up to no good.

“Even though you claim this wedding is two years late, what kind of person is He Heng now?” On the other hand, Huo Jia continued talking to himself as he nonchalantly sat on the sofa, crossing his legs.

“After all, he’s a figure in A City’s business world, right?”

Faced with the blatant mockery and insinuations, Shi Shaowen’s expression became increasingly grim. He even prepared a broom and dustpan as if ready to usher out an unwelcome guest.

However, in the next moment, “But, you haven’t forgotten how he rose to power back then, have you?” Huo Jia deliberately raised his voice. After saying this, he discreetly observed Shi Shaowen’s expression.

Sure enough, Shi Shaowen halted his efforts to expel the guest, and a complex emotion flashed in his eyes.

The memories of the past surged up once again, and Shi Shaowen’s hand involuntarily tightened at his side.

How could he forget?

Back then, it was with the reputation of the Shi family that He Heng gained the investments from the upper echelons of society. Otherwise, his business would never have reached the current heights.

However, what Shi Shaowen never anticipated was that, in the face of a crisis in his own company, He Heng not only didn’t extend a helping hand but instead stabbed the Shi family in the back, devouring every last bit of their remaining assets.

During the severe financial crisis faced by the Shi family, He Heng was the first to come forward, expressing his willingness to provide assistance. Although Shi Shaowen found the terms and conditions offered by He Heng at that time to be irregular, he was at his wit’s end. Moreover, with his son married to He Heng, there seemed to be no reason for He Heng to harm them.

However, it turned out that he was wrong, and very wrong at that.

Those contracts and terms were designed to lure him in, part of a carefully planned scheme by He Heng. Without any hesitation, He Heng exploited legal loopholes and, without using a single soldier or weapon, completely absorbed the Shi family.

Since then, the Shi family had completely fallen.

“Don’t you want to reclaim everything?”

The voice of Huo Jia suddenly brought him back from his memories.

“What do you mean?” Shi Shaowen tossed the broom and dustpan aside, choosing to get straight to the point. He didn’t want to listen to Huo Jia beating around the bush.

He hated people who kept things to themselves and insisted on talking in riddles.

Huo Jia just beat around the bush with him here?

At his words, Huo Jia’s gaze shifted to the invitation on the table, and he revealed a meaningful smile. “Isn’t he inviting you to the wedding?”

Looking at the cunning and sly expression on the other’s face, Shi Shaowen’s mind suddenly flashed with a crazy thought.

“Are you thinking of doing something during the wedding?”

Huo Jia directly interrupted him with a laugh, “Think about it, how much money did He Heng have before marrying your son?”

“You should know that everything he owns belongs to the post-marital property. And he doesn’t have any children. If something happens to him, your son, as his spouse, is the first heir to the property he owns.”

“Are you crazy?” Shi Shaowen suddenly widened his eyes.

To do something during the wedding, Huo Jia was really daring.

And Shi Shaowen seriously doubted whether Huo Jia’s intelligence could compete with He Heng.

Thinking about this, he couldn’t restrain himself any longer. “In such an important occasion, won’t He Heng have people planted around him? Is it possible that he’ll let in suspicious individuals?”

“Why are you in such a hurry?” Huo Jia waved his hand dismissively. “Since I have this idea, I naturally made preparations early.”

“Do you know that the hotel where they are getting married is under the Golden Entertainment Group? And the highest-level hotel management there is my wife’s cousin. I have internal connections in the hotel and can directly let my people blend in among the hotel staff.”

“Even if He Heng’s security measures are meticulous, what’s the use of external inspections? Can he investigate internally?”

“Then what does this have to do with me?” Shi Shaowen still felt that the other party was playing around. He folded his arms and said, “I don’t see how I fit into your plan.”

“Look at how impatient you are.” Huo Jia waved his hand, gesturing for him to calm down. “Wasn’t I just about to tell you why I came to find you?”

“I already have a rough plan, but I need a small favor from you. It’s crucial.” Saying this, Huo Jia suddenly leaned in and whispered a few words into Shi Shaowen’s ear.

The more Shi Shaowen listened, the more tightly knit his brows became, and his facial expression changed unpredictably, like the shifting weather.

“After all, now that I’m over fifty, I’ve become an old man, an old father-in-law. What else can I have in mind?” Huo Jia remarked, seemingly nonchalant.

“Right?” Huo Jia finished outlining his plan and looked at Shi Shaowen confidently, a more pronounced smile playing on his lips, waiting for the other’s response.

However, in that moment, Shi Shaowen suddenly lowered his head and fell into silence.

Setting aside whether the plan was too risky, he did harbor resentment towards He Heng. But living to this age, experiencing joys and sorrows, he found himself less attached to fame and wealth.

Shi Shaowen was truly torn, and what really moved him was the smile inadvertently revealed by Shi Shuang in the invitation, a look that didn’t seem feigned. As Shi Shuang’s father, he had never been able to elicit such an expression from him, but He Heng did.

Could it be possible that He Heng wasn’t as bad as he thought?

Observing Shi Shaowen’s hesitant demeanor and the continual glances at the photo, Huo Jia found it somewhat surprising. Arching an eyebrow, he spoke with a tone tinged with mockery, “You’re not suddenly remembering family ties now, are you?”

To actually have expectations for He Heng’s character was truly ridiculous. It seemed that Shi Shaowen, despite his advanced age, was becoming more muddled.

“Think about it carefully,” Huo Jia interrupted Shi Shaowen’s contemplation. “Is he treating your son well? In his eyes, your son is just a tool to climb up the social ladder. Perhaps he still serves some purpose for He Heng now, so he won’t do anything to him.”

“But what if one day he becomes useless to He Heng? How do you think He Heng will act?”

Indeed, the next moment, Shi Shaowen suddenly lifted his head, and a hint of hesitation flashed in his eyes. Seeing the other’s expression starting to waver, obviously affected by his words, Huo Jia continued to elaborate:

“Aren’t you doing this for the good of your son as well? To rescue him from the clutches of this cunning and malicious Alpha.”

After listening to these words, Shi Shaowen remained silent for a long time.

Eventually,

“I’ll consider it.” His eyebrows slightly furrowed, and the expression in his eyes became obscure and unclear, but it seemed that he had been swayed by Huo Jia’s words.

Seeing this, Huo Jia chuckled, patting Shi Shaowen on the shoulder and saying with a sinister tone:

“We’ll buy some life insurance for He Heng before the wedding, just to be safe.”

“Prudent.”
