Zhou Zhou and Yu Yang squatted in the grassy area by the school’s perimeter wall. While Yu Yang anxiously kept an eye on any movement near the direction of the teaching building and eagerly glanced at the omelette stall outside the railing, his attention was divided between the two tasks. His head turned back and forth, extending and retracting like a young groundhog just out of its burrow. It created a lively scene.
The school tightened its control over takeout. They claimed it was to prevent students from getting stomach problems. In reality, the school cafeteria’s GDP had plummeted. If things continued like this, there might not be any hiring for next semester.
With policies from above, they’ve got their own countermeasure against whatever useless policies – they still want to eat takeout. Aunties from the snack stalls, in defiance of the school’s strict orders, no longer set up their stalls at the school gates. Instead, they came outside the teaching building by the side of the perimeter wall. Students leaned against the railing, pointing at the food they wanted. After the aunties finished preparing the food, they handed it over with both hands. Their gazes were full of affection. It was more touching than a prison visit.
Yu Yang suddenly lowered his voice and cheered as he leapt up to the railing’s edge. He received two bags of piping hot omelettes. His smile radiant and handsome – a smile even rarer than when he faced his own mother. He thanked the auntie graciously and then squatted back down next to Zhou Zhou, handing him one of the bags.
“Eat quickly. Oops. I’m gone. I’m starving to death. The food in the cafeteria at noon today was for pigs, right? Is this how the school intended to train us Alphas?”
Zhou Zhou leisurely pulled the packaging bag apart and slowly said, “I’m an Omega.”
With a ‘clatter’, the sausage from Yu Yang’s omelette – something he regarded as more precious than life itself – fell onto the grass.
“Fuck?! Who the hell are you kidding?!”
Zhou Zhou took a bite of the golden and crispy omelette and continued, “I’ve fallen in love with Cheng Che.”
With a ‘smack’, the pork tenderloin from Yu Yang’s omelette – something he regarded as more important than his own dignity – fell onto the grass.
“Fuck?! When did this happen?!”
Zhou Zhou licked the crumbs from his lips and continued, “Cheng Che must like an Omega like me.”
With a ‘crash’, the lettuce from Yu Yang’s omelette – his source of vitamins – fell onto the grass.
“Fuck?! How would you know that?”
Zhou Zhou glanced at his hand and reminded him: “Hold on. There is only one piece left of your omelette.”
Yu Yang looked down and found his hand empty. He was left only with a fragile piece of reddish pastry.
He was torn between his anxiety to clarify what Zhou Zhou had said and his longing for the sausage and pork tenderloin. He was feeling hungry so he hesitated for a moment. Then he quickly turned his head and shouted towards the auntie: “Auntie, fry me another. With sausage. A piece of tenderloin. After that……”
As he shouted, Zhou Zhou swiftly devoured the omelette in his hand. He then rose and walked towards the other side of the teaching building with steady steps. His posture looked confident and his silhouette looked graceful.
By the time Yu Yang had finished placing his order with the auntie, he turned around only to find Zhou Zhou gone.
With another turn of his head, just as he took an extra glance at the grass, in the next moment, the bald-headed headmaster pointed at the crouching Yu Yang as he shouted: “Yu Yang! How many times has it been?! You love eggs so much so why don’t you just stop studying and set up a stall!”
Yu Yang, having reached his limit, stood up defiantly. He began shouting incoherently, “You think I don’t want to?! My mother won’t let me!”
The students were studying during the lunch break, creating a serene atmosphere. Outside the building, the conversation between Yu Yang and the headmaster resonated clearly across the campus. It elicited laughter from within the teaching building.
Feeling great, Zhou Zhou casually tossed the packaging bag into the trash bin. He climbed the stairs to the second floor. He passed by the back door of Class 5 and glanced over at Cheng Che, who was seated by the window at the back of the classroom.
Cheng Che was engrossed in reading a book. His profile displayed distinct and smooth lines. His fingers were fair and slender. Even from a distance, Zhou Zhou felt like he could see Cheng Che’s long eyelashes. And those long legs resting under the desk—damn, they were so enticing. He really wanted to sit on them!
Damn, he’s so handsome and fair-skinned. Truly worthy of being the Alpha that caught my eye!
Zhou Zhou stood with his hands in his pockets at the back door, admiring the view for a few seconds before humming a song and crossing over two classrooms to return to his own class – Class 2.
Cheng Che, who was reading, lifted his head and followed the line of windows near the door to catch sight of Zhou Zhou’s departing figure in the corridor. He pursed his lips into a smile.
