He had known for a long time that Zhou Zhou was an omega. He was also aware that his pheromones had the scent of strawberry milkshake. Other than that, he knew that Zhou Zhou liked him. He knew that this little omega had always been finding excuses to get close to him.
In fact, even before Cheng Che knew Zhou Zhou was an omega, he had already noticed him.
This alpha from Class 2 always had a smile on his face—looking mischievous, joyful, cunning, and a bit naughty. He had a pair of extremely clear and beautiful almond-shaped eyes. His facial features were exceptional, small and delicate. It was without any coquettishness. But it rather has a clean and translucent look. It was innocent yet vivid.
He knew Zhou Zhou’s personality was outstanding too. He wouldn’t provoke others. But once provoked, he wouldn’t hesitate to fight back. Cheng Che was fortunate to have witnessed Zhou Zhou kicking someone once. At that moment, all he could think was: Indeed, just like they said. He is a beautiful and fierce little wildcat.
But in Cheng Che’s heart, Zhou Zhou was more like a puppy.
He had seen Zhou Zhou crouching in a corner, feeding the two stray dogs. He carefully poured milk for their mouths. There was a simple smile on his lips. He had seen Zhou Zhou walking among a group of tall alphas, chatting with them happily, often receiving indulgent pats on the head.
Speaking of which, Cheng Che really hated it when others touched Zhou Zhou’s head.
He had questioned himself, wondering why he cared so much about a pretty and cute alpha. It wasn’t until later, in his uncle’s office—the youngest chemistry professor in the city—that he saw a picture of Zhou Zhou when he found out why.
To be precise, it was a picture of Zhou Zhou and his sister, Zhou Qiao.
That’s when he found out that his uncle and Zhou Zhou’s sister were a couple. Although his uncle helplessly mentioned that Zhou Qiao had always been reluctant to admit their relationship.
At that moment, Cheng Che looked at the picture of Zhou Zhou with a joyful expression and said, “Zhou Zhou and I go to the same school.”
His uncle nodded, “This child is a beta.”
Cheng Che didn’t want to admit it. But he had to acknowledge that when he heard those words, his heart raced. He thought that him being a beta was good enough. It was already quite good.
“However, his father believes he’ll definitely be an alpha in the future. So he arranged for him to go to your school,” his uncle said. “But I think he would be an omega. Just like Qiao Qiao.”
In his heart, Cheng Che said; I also hope Zhou Zhou will become an omega.
Since then, Cheng Che has paid even more attention to Zhou Zhou. He always asked for the teachers to place his seat near the window because through this, he could often see Zhou Zhou frequenting behind the teaching building. Zhou Zhou seemed to really like those two little puppies and enjoyed buying snacks by the school wall with his friends—sometimes with Yu Yang, sometimes with other alphas. They would chat and laugh. The wind would play with Zhou Zhou’s soft hair. Looking at him swayed and stirred Cheng Che’s heart.
One day, as Cheng Che passed by Zhou Zhou, he caught a faint whiff of strawberry milkshake scent.
At first, he thought it was the lingering aroma of some dessert Zhou Zhou had eaten. However, in the following days, as he brushed past Zhou Zhou in the corridor, he could still smell the scent of strawberry milkshake.
The scent was very faint. It was clearly suppressed by inhibitors. But Cheng Che could still detect it.
He suppressed a smile. He knew Zhou Zhou had differentiated. He had become an omega.
Then he realised that Zhou Zhou might have feelings for him. Whether it was the head surreptitiously peering from behind a tree while he was feeding the puppies, or the eyes Zhou Zhou fixed on him when they met face to face, or even the remark Zhou Zhou made with Yu Yang that “…those fangs of his look like it’s just perfect for him to bite into my gland.”
This thought was really interesting and quite feasible. Cheng Che ran his tongue over his own sharp little canine tooth and couldn’t help but smile.
Later, he learned from his uncle that Zhou Qiao had requested special, potent suppressants. From that time onwards, Cheng Che noticed that he could no longer detect the scent of strawberry milkshake on Zhou Zhou.
He had initially thought Zhou Zhou wanted to completely conceal the fact that he was an omega. However, he discovered that Zhou Zhou’s purpose was so that he could get closer to him.
However, Cheng Che wished even more that Zhou Zhou would come closer to him in his true identity. He wanted to tell Zhou Zhou that: Whether you’re an Alpha, Beta, or Omega, I like you. It’s about you as a person. Not your gender.
But Zhou Zhou was evidently very cautious, revealing nothing except for that one time when he confessed to Cheng Che while he was pretending to sleep.
Cheng Che heard it loud and clear. When Zhou Zhou leaned in to kiss the corner of his mouth, he clearly realised he couldn’t suppress his pheromones anymore. He was close to breaking the act.
Fortunately, Zhou Zhou didn’t overthink it and actually believed Cheng Che’s explanation that the surge in pheromones was due to emotional fluctuations from a dream.
And then, when Zhou Zhou personally held his hand and asked for a hug… Cheng Che’s heart felt weary. He was being seduced. And it was tough for him. Yet Zhou Zhou was still immersed in acting in the drama that he was still an alpha, showing no understanding and not knowing when to maintain an appropriate distance.
Today, when the dessert shop employee mentioned the couple card, Zhou Zhou immediately declined and insisted that he was an alpha, stating they were just friends.
He made it all worse. He could have simply declined and said he didn’t want the card. Why did he have to say these useless things?
So, Cheng Che intentionally distanced himself in the afternoon. He knew Zhou Zhou felt wronged. So in the evening, he found an excuse to go to Zhou Zhou’s house. He initially planned to be honest with him. However, he didn’t expect Zhou Zhou to cry so intensely, showing signs of being on the verge of heat.
Cheng Che knew his pheromones had affected the effectiveness of the suppressants, making Zhou Zhou find it hard to endure. But Cheng Che wasn’t faring any better. He remembered every time he looked at Zhou Zhou’s gland, his sharp canine tooth would itch. He was tempted to lean in and take a bite.
He chose to use kisses to ease Zhou Zhou’s oncoming heat. He thought Zhou Zhou would be fine after calming down a bit. So, when he went to get water, Cheng Che put on the isolation bracelet to prevent his pheromones from affecting Zhou Zhou again and to avoid losing control of his own desires. Little did he know that Zhou Zhou would sit on the desk, looking pitiful and asking for a hug.
Cheng Che felt tormented. Zhou Zhou seemed comfortable being kissed. But he didn’t know Cheng Che was losing control.
So he had to leave Zhou Zhou’s place for now. He would slowly get Zhou Zhou to confess after tonight.
Cheng Che knew about the side effects of the suppressants Zhou Zhou was using. He wondered as to the reason why he was already feeling so overwhelmed even when he couldn’t even detect a hint of pheromones from Zhou Zhou. So, what would happen when Zhou Zhou stopped using the suppressants? When that wave of strawberry milkshake pheromones swept over him, how would he control himself?
Being an alpha is really tough, Cheng Che thought. It was especially tough when dealing with unexpected and off-track thoughts from his little omega. When he had asked Zhou Zhou, “Don’t you have anything to say to me?” earlier, he had hoped Zhou Zhou would reveal the truth. But who would have expected Zhou Zhou to ask, “Can I hug you?”
Cheng Che sighed. Zhou Zhou really had no awareness of being an omega at all. Did he not realise how dangerous it was to make such requests to an alpha?
Cheng Che never considered himself some restrained and chaste saint. The possessiveness inherent in alphas tormented him constantly. What tormented him even more was his affection for Zhou Zhou. However, it wasn’t the right time yet. He had to endure and wait for the right moment for everything to happen naturally.
Indeed, it wasn’t the right time. Both he and Zhou Zhou were not yet of legal age after all.
