On Monday, Zhou Zhou was singled out and taken to the principal’s office.
“Your dad told me you’re an omega?” the principal asked.
Zhou Zhou was a bit puzzled. He didn’t know if the principal was trying to deceive him or stating a fact. So he pretended to be clueless, “What?”
“Alright, stop pretending. Zhou Moming already told me.” The principal gave him a sidelong glance. “Okay, your family is quite something. Initially, Zhou Moming insisted that you must be an alpha, urging me to admit you here. Now, as the college entrance exams approach, he tells me you’re an omega.”
Zhou Zhou hadn’t interacted much with this principal, who was apparently some elder relative of his dad’s. Zhou Moming, however, seemed disdainful of arranging any special treatment for Zhou Zhou. Aside from pulling strings to get him into the school, Zhou Zhou had hardly exchanged a word with the principal throughout his three years of high school.
“Well, it’s a sudden differentiation,” Zhou Zhou rubbed his hands, “I’m quite confused too. I always thought I was an alpha. Haa… what a pity.”
The principal didn’t feel like talking more about it. When Zhou Moming came to city A in his younger days, with that wild and reckless attitude, the principal didn’t want to admit they were relatives. Later, when Zhou Qiao attended the regular high school where the principal was in charge, he couldn’t understand why an omega like Zhou Qiao was so fierce, getting into fights every few days. After a fight, Zhou Qiao would swagger into the principal’s office and tossed back her long red hair. She would wipe the blood from the corner of her mouth and said, “Principal, you should expel me. I don’t think the school atmosphere here suits me.”
With your attitude, which school’s atmosphere would suit you?
Now here he was, the principal of the Alpha Training Centre, encountering another one of the Zhous once again. Fortunately, Zhou Zhou was a bit better than his sister despite getting into fights. But at least he didn’t cause major disturbances. With the college entrance exams approaching, the principal found himself praying every day that Zhou Zhou would stay out of trouble. But then, he differentiated into an omega.
This is fate.
The principal, feeling somewhat weary, took a sip of tea. “Alright, I’ve informed the Omega Centre. You can transfer there next week. The college entrance exams are approaching, focus on your studies first.”
Zhou Zhou nodded.
After a moment of thought, the principal asked, “Does anyone else know you’re an omega?”
“No one else,” Zhou Zhou lied.
Only two people knew: Cheng Che and Yu Yang. So practically, no one else knew.
“That’s good. Don’t end up like He Linze and Chen Yi, with such an unfortunate outcome,” the principal sighed. “Originally, it wouldn’t have led to expulsion. But the teacher who caught them dating took it quite seriously, and suddenly all the leaders knew about it. I couldn’t handle it privately with the parents.”
Having been a principal for many years, he was no stranger to such matters. The only problem was that now he was at the Alpha Centre, where hiding second genders and being in relationships were explicitly prohibited by school rules. Moreover, with the ongoing evaluation by the provincial authorities, he couldn’t afford to be lenient in front of the entire school leadership and staff.
Zhou Zhou suddenly felt some understanding for the principal. He comforted him, “It’s okay. I heard they transferred to a regular high school. So the college entrance exams shouldn’t be affected.”
“Do I need you to tell me about arrangements I personally handled?” The principal glared at him.
Zhou Zhou grinned, “Uncle, you’re really nice.”
“According to our seniority, you should call me Fourth Grandpa,” the principal said.
“…”

On Thursday, Cheng Che and Zhou Zhou went to the study room for the last chemistry tutoring session.
Thanks to Cheng Che’s help, Zhou Zhou’s chemistry had improved enough to not lag behind anymore. Although it still seemed weaker compared to other subjects, he could at least score several times higher than before.
Zhou Zhou was feeling quite sentimental. He recalled that he started getting close to Cheng Che from the study room. Thinking that this would be their last time spending high school moments together, he felt a bit nostalgic. They wouldn’t be able to sit together in the classroom, watching the sunset over the playground. He wouldn’t catch the scent of minty sake in the breeze while solving problems, and he wouldn’t be able to immediately ask Cheng Che for help when encountering difficult questions.
Although he could ask when they got home, it wouldn’t be the same as asking in the classroom.
Leaning on the desk, Zhou Zhou looked at Cheng Che’s profile and said with distress, “I still can’t bear it. We didn’t even get a chance to take a graduation photo together. I really wanted to solve problems with you here until the day of the college entrance exams.”
“Even though we can’t solve problems together during the day, we can sleep together at night,” Cheng Che said sensibly. “Did you finish the test? Let me take a look.”
Zhou Zhou slid his completed test paper over to Cheng Che and then closed his eyes. He quietly savoured the faint scent of minty sake in the soft yellow sunset.
He heard a crisp sound. It was probably Cheng Che’s pen dropping to the floor. Zhou Zhou lazily didn’t want to open his eyes. He felt Cheng Che bend down to pick up the pen, but for quite some time, Cheng Che didn’t straighten up.
“What’s wrong? Can’t find it?” Zhou Zhou asked, opening his eyes.
“Can’t find it,” Cheng Che crouched down completely, “Help me look for it.”
Zhou Zhou crouched down as well, scanning the floor left and right for the pen. After a while, he still couldn’t find it. When he looked up, he saw Cheng Che looking at him. There was a smile playing on his lips. He shook the pen in his hand.
“Why aren’t you grading the papers properly? Why did you lie to me to come under the desk?” Zhou Zhou asked.
“I’m not doing anything because I just wanted to kiss you,” Cheng Che reached out, pulling Zhou Zhou’s nape. Under the desk, he planted a kiss on Zhou Zhou’s lips, shielded from the view of any surveillance cameras.
Zhou Zhou’s gaze passed over Cheng Che’s hair and saw a golden sky outside the window above. Even the clouds were adorned with a beautiful rosy hue.
Summer has truly arrived.
