Zhou Zhou increasingly felt that Cheng Che was a childish boyfriend. That was probably due to the beauty of distance after attending different schools. Cheng Che no longer urged Zhou Zhou to get up in the morning. Instead, he would hold him and cling onto him in the air-conditioned room under the blanket. When Zhou Zhou anxiously said to hurry up or said that they would be late, Cheng Che usually just casually replied, “It’s okay. My school is nearby. I won’t be late.”
Zhou Zhou: Huh? So, if I’m late, you don’t care?
In the morning, because there were many students, the bus was usually crowded. Cheng Che held the hanging loop with one hand and embraced Zhou Zhou’s waist from behind with the other. He then unabashedly buried his face in Zhou Zhou’s neck to catch some more sleep.
And that’s not all. When getting off the bus, he would pinch Zhou Zhou’s face and turn his head towards him as he kissed him on the lips. He would lazily say, “I’m recharging a bit. You are my little socket.”
The description of ‘my little socket’ may sound a bit embarrassing. After Cheng Che got off the bus, Zhou Zhou wished he could bury his head under the bus seat.

Zhou Zhou accidentally knocked over a bowl while eating noodles, causing the entire bowl of soup to spill on his reference book, rendering it unusable. After school, he specifically went to the bookstore with Cheng Che to buy a new one.
Zhou Zhou sent Cheng Che to the neighbouring bookstore to buy bubble tea for him and entered the bookstore alone.
After purchasing the book and coming out, Zhou Zhou stood at the bookstore entrance, looking dazed.
He saw… how should he put it? Perhaps not an omega but more like a character from a manga. He saw a tall figure, fair skin, features with a delicate mix of exotic heritage, and a rare shade of sapphire blue short hair that seemed to be a colour only found in fairy tales in the twilight sunset.
The omega had a smile hinted in the corners of his eyes. Even a casual blink exuded a charming and alluring demeanour. He emanated an air of wealth and sophistication from head to toe. He was standing next to Cheng Che, talking to him. After just a few sentences, he was laughing with his elbow placed on Cheng Che’s shoulder. Cheng Che, on the other hand, lazily leaned against the bus stop sign by the roadside, holding a bottle of bubble tea with one hand. There was a faint smile on his lips.
Honestly, if Cheng Che weren’t his boyfriend, Zhou Zhou would probably want to ship them together.
But now is obviously not the right time for any ship to sail. Who, when fully satisfied, would ship their boyfriend with someone else? This is clearly a battlefield.
Zhou Zhou, holding the book, was so enraged that his vision darkened. He shouted, “Cheng Che, you scumbag!” and stormed down the steps. However, due to his anger-induced dizziness, he didn’t see where he was stepping. As a result, he stepped into thin air, tumbling forward.
Fortunately, the street was narrow and Cheng Che reacted quickly. He took two steps forward and caught Zhou Zhou around the waist, frowning and saying in a low voice, “Why are you in such a hurry? Be careful.”
“I, I, I…” Zhou Zhou steadied himself with Cheng Che’s help while incoherently exclaiming, “If I had been one second later, would you two have already embraced each other?”
Jin Wuqi walked over with a sly smile, “Oh, little guy, are you feeling jealous?”
The beautiful person was quite tall. Zhou Zhou, standing beside Cheng Che and holding his hand, didn’t want to cause a scene in public. So he could only suppress his frustration and meekly said, “Hello.”
“So cute,” Jin Wuqi, well aware that Zhou Zhou was making assumptions, fearlessly reached out and hooked Zhou Zhou’s chin with his fingers.
As Zhou Zhou was both intrigued and making wild guesses about the omega with such a close relationship with Cheng Che, his facial expressions were quite amusing. Cheng Che couldn’t help but want to laugh.
“He’s my brother, Jin Wuqi,” Cheng Che explained.
Not a love rival. That’s good.
Zhou Zhou immediately shifted away from the resentful mindset and looked up at Jin Wuqi, taking in the scent of roses in the air. He sincerely said, “Hello, big brother.”
“With such a beautiful and cute omega, no wonder my brother likes him so much,” Jin Wuqi teased Zhou Zhou, winking at him. “Little Zhou Zhou, when are you coming over to meet the family?”
Zhou Zhou, completely enchanted, immediately let go of Cheng Che’s hand. He shyly moved closer to Jin Wuqi and a bit bashfully started to get a bit fascinated, “So, can I treat you to a cup of bubble tea?”
Cheng Che’s hand holding the bubble tea trembled in disbelief.
“Today might not work. My bubble tea has already been bought by someone else,” Jin Wuqi said, patting Zhou Zhou’s face. He then turned and softly called out to the entrance of the bubble tea shop, “Yu Yang!”
While Zhou Zhou was still processing the fact that someone named Yu Yang managed to buy bubble tea for the beautiful person before him, he turned his head and saw his childhood friend, wearing a school uniform with a backpack, sucking a straw in his mouth. Yu Yang walked out of the shop with each hand holding a cup of bubble tea.
…
When Yu Yang saw the two people beside Jin Wuqi, he almost choked on the straw in his throat.
Alright, the family is finally united.
Later, there was probably a somewhat awkward scene of recognizing each other. The most awkward was Yu Yang. For some reason, he stumbled in front of his childhood friend after buying two cups of bubble tea. No wonder he thought he saw someone in a school uniform who looked like Cheng Che in the bubble tea shop.
Jin Wuqi and Cheng Che were discussing family matters. Zhou Zhou, holding his bubble tea, and Yu Yang stood on the side. Zhou Zhou’s gaze towards Yu Yang was quite complex.
He remembered not long ago when Yu Yang had a disdainful expression and solemnly vowed that he would never sell his body.
“I’m a good student. I would rather die than yield.” That was what Yu Yang had said back then.
Now, Zhou Zhou asked him in a low voice, “Do you like Jin Wuqi?”
“Yes.”
It was still Yu Yang, biting the straw as he glanced at Jin Wuqi under the evening sky, answering decisively.
Ah, love is in the air.

After school today, Cheng Che, as usual, came to pick up Zhou Zhou. He saw Zhou Zhou walking with Wen Ran. They were both quite far from him and neither noticed him.
“What do you usually do when you go home?” Zhou Zhou held a bottle of ice-cold cola he had just bought from the vending machine. He pressed it against his flushed face as he sighed in relief. He said, “Ah, it’s so cool.”
Wen Ran pushed aside the strands of hair on Zhou Zhou’s forehead, damp with sweat, and said, “Reading and studying for the college entrance examination.”
“You’re working so hard. Your grades are already very good. And yet you’re still so diligent.”
“I want to do even better,” Wen Ran smiled, “You know, if my college entrance exam scores are good enough, I can get into the A City Research Institute with a full scholarship and even receive an outstanding student aid.”
Zhou Zhou’s expression faltered. He had always thought Wen Ran, with his demeanour and appearance, was from a well-off family. He was always refined and gentle. It never occurred to him that Wen Ran’s family conditions might not be as good as people imagined.
Without probing further, Zhou Zhou just patted Wen Ran’s shoulder with a cheerful smile, “You can rest assured on this one. You’re so capable so you’ll definitely make it.”
“Yeah,” Wen Ran pursed his lips, “I’ll head back now. See you later.”
“Goodbye!”
After bidding farewell to Wen Ran, Zhou Zhou turned around and only then noticed Cheng Che standing not far away under a tree.
He jogged over and wiped his hands dampened by the condensation of the cold cola on his pants. He then lifted his head, holding the cola with both hands. He eagerly offered it, blinking as he asked, “Thirsty? Want some cola?”
“No, thanks.” Cheng Che tapped Zhou Zhou’s forehead and said, “Give me your backpack.”
Zhou Zhou took off his backpack and handed it to Cheng Che. They walked out together, having planned to go to a nearby barbecue restaurant for dinner tonight.
The surroundings were filled with students in school uniforms. In the distance, the grand sunset hung like an oil painting in the sky. The evening breeze carried the warmth of summer and the cool pheromones of those around them. In the trees, cicadas intermittently chirped.
Zhou Zhou, focused on trying to open the cola bottle, struggled for a while without success. His hands were getting red from the effort. Cheng Che couldn’t stand watching anymore, so he reached out and said, “Give it to me. I’ll open it for you.”
Unexpectedly, Zhou Zhou moved the cola bottle to his side. Frustrated, he said to Cheng Che, “Who do you think you’re underestimating? I can open it myself!”
“…” Cheng Che suspected that Zhou Zhou might be overestimating his own abilities as an omega.
But this little omega was quite determined. He huffed and puffed, struggling with the cola bottle for about two minutes. He finally managed to open the cap. The carbonated soda bubbled out and Zhou Zhou immediately took a sip.
“Summer is really nice. I love summer.” Zhou Zhou, satisfied after taking a gulp of the ice-cold cola, tilted his face upwards. The glow of the sunset reflected on his slightly uplifted face. “I feel like I already have the best things this summer.”
“What are those best things?” Cheng Che asked as he lowered his eyes.
Zhou Zhou pointed at his own clothes and lifted the cola towards Cheng Che. He smiled. His eyes, curved like the early-hanging crescent moon in the splendid sky, sparkled. His voice, amid the indistinct sounds of cars and people around, sounded particularly clear.
“School uniform, cola, and Cheng Che.”

*GLOSSARY: I think I’ve stated this before but I’ll reiterate. Chinese still call relatives like cousins as ‘older brother’ even when they’re not in a nuclear family.
